Re: detecting formatting in word 2013 especially paragraphs

HAMILTON

Once we have done this, and we have turned on these "formatting" characters,
will they be printed with a document? Or, will such "symbols" be
"invisible" to the printer? Would there be a way to toggle, e.g.
"formatting symbols on" and "formatting symbols off", to make a document
ready for printing sooner? If not, perhaps a "macro" could be used;but, I
would first have to learn how to create/use macros!

Jim H

P.S.: Am I ever learning a lot from this list!

Open your document, go to File. Go to Options. Tab to Advanced, and start
looking. It's a big list, but what you want is there. You want to be able
to see the paragraph marks in Word. You also have options for spaces and
tabs.

Hi List,
I am doing an editing exercise using word 2013 and JAWS 16. I need to be
able to detect paragraphs in the document so that I can highlight them and
change their formatting eg., re-align the paragraph etc.
for the life of me I cannot find the commands to do this. Using a full
keyboard.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm not Tom, obviously, but turning off forms mode has been a liberator
for me during the past month or so. Among other things, it speeds up the
loading of webpages. go to the quick settings dialog and type "forms" into
the search field. The middle one of the three results is the one you'd
want.

Subject: Further YouTube and JAWS questions

Hello again,

As my email subject says, I have further questions regarding using
YouTube
with JAWS.

I'm assuming that YouTube has changed in the past while, because some of
the techniques I've used in the past don't seem to work any more.
The buttons, such as play/pause, stop, etc, don't seem to be there, or at
least, I can't find them.
Also, I'd like to know how I can now fast forward or rewind within a
video
aside from just using the J and L keys with the disabling of quick keys.
I thought that at one point, one could find where the percentage of how
far the video was playing, one could use the left and right arrows. I
can
no longer find that.
Any tips for this issue?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

I just went through the process of installing Windows 10. The Freedom Scientific site:

http://www.freedomscientific.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Windows10Upgrade

says that you have to first use the utility tool to remove all versions of JAWS prior to the latest version of JAWS 16: 0.4350.

The latest version of Jaws works with Windows 10.

Even if you don't want to install Windows 10, I would suspect that the utility tool can still be used to clean up your computer of older versions of JAWS.

After running the utility tool, I still had JAWS working and it continute to work during the download and install of Windows 10. JAWS stopped when the computer began the first of the several reboots.

Hi, Jim. When you enter a word, first, specify the default configuration
file with CONTROL plus SHIFT plus D. Then specify English as the language
instead of "All Languages". Doing this will cause another option to be
displayed in the dialogue box of the Dictionary Manager. Once this new
"Synthesizer" choice comes up, specify "Eloquence Software" instead of "All
Synthesizers". This will open up a list of choices as to the default
language in which the word will be spoken. For your French name, you would
choose French as the default language for that word in particular. Then,
each time that name is spoken, it will use the French language to pronounce
the name.

Not silly. I hope the following is clear:

Place focus next to the file in its current location. Don't open the file.

Press control-x to move or control-c to copy it.

Go to the C drive. The simplest way to get there is to go to My Computer, or just computer if you have Win7, press enter, and arrow down to the C drive. It will almost certainly be the first item, maybe identified as "local drive C," or some such thing.

Use the read line (JAWS key+8 on the numpad) to determine if focus is on a file that isn't selected. It shouldn't be selected. If it is, press control-spacebar to deselect.

Now press control-v to paste the JAWS file.

I'm going to copy below the instructions I received a few months ago from
FS. Note that the release number has been updated since then, so you'll need
to adjust. Also, as the FS rep knew, my system is 64-bit. I don't know if
yours is 64- or 32-bit. A final note: the JAWS repair takes a while, but
there are no confirming announcements. JAWS tells you only when the repair
is complete, at which point you reboot.

To run a JAWS 16 repair,
First download JAWS 16 to your computer. Go to:

Yes, I see. In my friend's case, she prefers to hear the "an" sound, rather
than the sounds made when using the "au" or "o", in her name. So, using
your suggestion would make it " "zharn". But, what I have now, thanks to
another lister, works just great on my system.

Playing with 'your suggestion' and not changing my default synthesizer,
leaves me with "zhan", which also sounds pretty good - again, on my system.
I will explore the "French" side of the JAWS Dictionary if I start seeing a
lot of other words in French; but, I have not so far. "TOUCH WOOD"!

Hi all,

after experementing a bit, the closest I came up with was a variant using
British Eloquence. The American won't work, since the r is pronounced, and
thus useless. Here goes:
zhorn
Also, you can set up the dictionary in such a way that it uses the French
synthesizer whenever it encounters the name Jean.

I'm not Tom, obviously, but turning off forms mode has been a liberator for me during the past month or so. Among other things, it speeds up the loading of webpages. go to the quick settings dialog and type "forms" into the search field. The middle one of the three results is the one you'd want.

Hello again,

As my email subject says, I have further questions regarding using YouTube
with JAWS.

I'm assuming that YouTube has changed in the past while, because some of
the techniques I've used in the past don't seem to work any more.
The buttons, such as play/pause, stop, etc, don't seem to be there, or at
least, I can't find them.
Also, I'd like to know how I can now fast forward or rewind within a video
aside from just using the J and L keys with the disabling of quick keys.
I thought that at one point, one could find where the percentage of how
far the video was playing, one could use the left and right arrows. I can
no longer find that.
Any tips for this issue?
Thanks,
Jim

I'm going to copy below the instructions I received a few months ago from
FS. Note that the release number has been updated since then, so you'll need
to adjust. Also, as the FS rep knew, my system is 64-bit. I don't know if
yours is 64- or 32-bit. A final note: the JAWS repair takes a while, but
there are no confirming announcements. JAWS tells you only when the repair
is complete, at which point you reboot.

To run a JAWS 16 repair,
First download JAWS 16 to your computer. Go to:

Look for and download:
* JAWS 16.0.1925 64-bit English - January 2015 (133 MB) Choose the 64 bit
version. Save this to your computer. Do not run from current location. After
the file is saved:
To run a JAWS 16 repair.
1. Copy the appropriate version to your C: drive To run a JAWS 16 repair, go
to the run dialog and type:
C:\J16.0.1925ENU-64bit.exe /type repair And press enter.
The repair will run. After the repair has completed, reboot your computer.

Re: Jaws and Microsoft Access

Teddy assefa <theo.assefa@...>

Yes, there is practically no material available for developing apps in Access (or any VBA based).

I'm using common windows controls and appears the properties need to be modified for JAWS. Some examples of issues Im having are:
- a password Textbox field, JAWS echoes the characters typed in and not asterisk
- radio buttons (in an Option Group) when checked, JAWS reads as Not-checked (and vice-versa)
- cannot Tab to the heading of a Tab control

Anyone else gone down this road?

Thanks

Dacia, the best way to do a JAWS repair is to download the build of JAWS
that you are running. For instance if you're trying to repair JAWS 16, go
to the web-site and download the current build of JAWS 16. Once you have it
downloaded, navigate to the place where you downloaded the file. Then you
will want to copy the path. You will do this by pressing shift plus the
applications key. Then navigate to the option that says copy path. Once
you select this option by pressing enter, the file name is copied to your
clipboard. Now, press Windows plus the letter R to bring up the run dialog
box. Press control plus the letter V to paste the name of the file into the
run dialog. Then, you will need to enter the following switch command at
the end of the file name.
/type repair
Then press enter, or tab to Ok, and press enter. The JAWS repair process
should begin.
Hope this helps!

Subject: How to do a JAWS repair

Hi, as the subject line states, I'm having some issues with jaws. I want to do a jaws repair to see if it will fix them. However, I can't remember how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Dacia
