Use of virtual ribbons and keyboard manager

Pablo Morales

I read the instructions to switch the echo level, and those instructions
were very good.
Now I am trying to use a keystroke to switch the use of virtual ribbons,
but when I look for use of virtual ribbons or something like that, it
doesn't appear in the default list. There is a way to switch the virtual
ribbons on or off through a keystroke?
Maybe through a script, but I have no idea what is the function to switch
the virtual ribbon function on/off.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, all:

Is there a way to get JAWS to replicate the French soft J sound, as
in
"Jean Valjean"? I was trying to change its pronunciation of that name
in the dictionary manager program, but couldn't get it to pronounce
it
as I knew it should be pronounced. Any pointers, appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Use of virtual ribbons and keyboard manager

Dave...

Daniel,

The Virtual Ribbon gives the look and feel of the traditional menu structure
that existed before the Ribbon was introduced. It is a band-aid approach to
hiding the Ribbon behind a similar interface. However the Virtual ribbon
does not have the quick key capability that existed in the old traditional
menus, so it's not an exact replacement. If you've become familiar with the
Ribbon structure, you're probably better off not bothering with the virtual
ribbon.

Another problem is that if you should be using another computer for a time,
such as in a library, and you are using virtual ribbons, you're going to be
hampered by not having that crutch available. And the virtual ribbon is only
a JAWS artifact, so NVDA and Window-Eyes would not have it, to the best of
my knowledge.

And I for one see no point in being able to switch back/forth between them
as a toggle function; you either use them or you don't. But that's just my
opinion, which is subject to criticism.\

Hi, Daniel. The Virtual Ribbon is supposed to make the ribbon menus more accessible to blind users of JAWS. The disadvantage, though, is that they block the use of some of the Microsoft shortcut letter combinations. When the Virtual Ribbon is turned off, these shortcut letter combinations become available again.

I find doodle easy to use but am running JAWS 16. I think I was able

Tom, you need to tell Winamp to take over for playing a video/audio. merely installing it doesn't work like it used to in XP.

start Winamp, press control+p.
press the home key and down arrow to file types.
press tab to a button named associate file types, all, and press enter.
alt+f4 and that should be it.
now entering on a video/audio should start playing in Winamp.

Re: Use of virtual ribbons and keyboard manager

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

Agree with that; same with punctuation. Another is Speak Dollar Last. I have
had to set it in Outlook and in Documents. Wherever I go, I have to set it.
Once set, it should be universal. It's bad enough to have to set it. I
realize that if JAWS is sold to someone in England, that might not be
important, but if the dollar sign comes first, the thing should be spoken to
speak last. That seems so simple to me, and to think that way down through
JAWS 16, and it doesn't? Well, JAWS makes it possible for me to even use a
computer, so I am very glad for what I have.

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
Yes, but I was looking something quicly, and easyer. The number of steps to
get to the ribbon option are around 3, when the options are just 2, yes or
no. Would be easyer to switch this binary value with just a keystroke
instead 3.
Because of that I was thinking that probably through a script or through the
keyboard manager fits the possibility to do it.
Thanks

I'd probably tell it to pronounce it as zhahn or zhauhn. Thought it's going to have difficulty in differentiating it from when it talks about Jean Stapleton or the actress Jean Simmons, not to mention of any blue jean pants or skirts.

Hi, all:

Is there a way to get JAWS to replicate the French soft J sound, as in
“Jean Valjean”? I was trying to change its pronunciation of that name
in the dictionary manager program, but couldn’t get it to pronounce it
as I knew it should be pronounced. Any pointers, appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Use of virtual ribbons and keyboard manager

Gerald Levy

On the JAWS Utilities menu, select Settings Center and then type "virtual ribbon" into the search field. You will get anoption to use the virtual ribbon which can be checked or unchecked by togglingthe the space bar.

Since jaws installs the drivers and I do not use any braille devices. I”m not sure why it pops up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for you help!!

Re: list of stations - free football radio

Michael Mote

Daniel, thanks for posting this list of stations. I found the Jacksonville
Jaguars broadcast on 850 AM WRUF out of Gainesville, Florida. Not sure if
you will get these games during the regular season. This station broadcasts
a lot of Florida Gator sports like volleyball and soccer games. Give it a
try!

Dear Group:

This is for all of you guys and gals interested in football. In early
August, Virtual Knight posted a message regarding the website
freefootballradio.com

In the 3 weeks of preseason games since Knight's post, I have been tracking
all 32 teams on this site. At one time, or another, I successfully listened
to the games of 26 teams' through this site. Six teams: Green Bay,
Jacksonville, Miami, Minnesota, San Diego and Seattle were blacked out due
to contract and copyright issues, and I was never able to receive their
games through their stations. I was, however, able to listen to these 6
teams games on the station of their opponent.

Below is the complete list in alphabetical order with the radio stationed on
which I managed to get the games.

I wish to thank Virtual Knight for his post in early August. I love football
and I am looking forward to a great season of free football listening to
noon games and afternoon games during which my Dallas Cowboys aren't
playing. Again, thank you Virtual Knight for this awesome lead.

EPub is not a Publisher file. It's an electronic publication format
designed primarily for mobile devices, although there are readers for
your PC as well. My recommendation to you is to download Adobe Digital
Editions. That's what I use for my IRS Epubs, and it works quite well
for me.
