Re: language question

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

I suggested Zjawn, but that Jeanne is pronounced like Jee Ann by JAWS. I have a French Canadian friend, Jeanne, who will tell you that her name is pronounced Zjawn.

Carolyn

I'd probably tell it to pronounce it as zhahn or zhauhn. Thought it's going to have difficulty in differentiating it from when it talks about Jean Stapleton or the actress Jean Simmons, not to mention of any blue jean pants or skirts.

Hi, all:

Is there a way to get JAWS to replicate the French soft J sound, as in
“Jean Valjean”? I was trying to change its pronunciation of that name
in the dictionary manager program, but couldn’t get it to pronounce it
as I knew it should be pronounced. Any pointers, appreciated! Thanks!

On the JAWS Utilities menu, select Settings Center and then type "virtual ribbon" into the search field. You will get anoption to use the virtual ribbon which can be checked or unchecked by togglingthe the space bar.

I read the instructions to switch the echo level, and those instructions
were very good.
Now I am trying to use a keystroke to switch the use of virtual ribbons,
but when I look for use of virtual ribbons or something like that, it
doesn't appear in the default list. There is a way to switch the virtual
ribbons on or off through a keystroke?
Maybe through a script, but I have no idea what is the function to switch
the virtual ribbon function on/off.
Thanks for any help.

Basically the subject line says what jaws speaks evertime I start my windows 10 computer.
Since jaws installs the drivers and I do not use any braille devices. I”m not sure why it pops up.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for you help!!

Re: list of stations - free football radio

Michael Mote

Daniel, thanks for posting this list of stations. I found the Jacksonville
Jaguars broadcast on 850 AM WRUF out of Gainesville, Florida. Not sure if
you will get these games during the regular season. This station broadcasts
a lot of Florida Gator sports like volleyball and soccer games. Give it a
try!

EPub is not a Publisher file. It's an electronic publication format
designed primarily for mobile devices, although there are readers for
your PC as well. My recommendation to you is to download Adobe Digital

Follow the link in the original post, it takes you to a web page. Then tab
to the FS Cast 113 link, and use the application context menu. There's an
option to "save target as". That will download the file for you.

Strictly speaking, that's not a download link; it just starts playing with
no preamble.

Re: How to silence a key

Adrian Spratt

I take it the intent is to stop JAWS verbalizing "alt" when the alt key is pressed? Mine doesn't say "alt," but I did nothing to set it that way. I wonder if it's a function of the synthesizer. (I don't use Eloquence.)

That said, if I press alt on an application that uses a ribbon, JAWS verbalizes the first item. Ditto on an application that uses the old file menu. On my desktop, however, JAWS says nothing when I press the alt key.

I wonder if the problem is one of asking the right question. It isn't so much silence that you'd want, but for JAWS not to verbalize "alt." Unless I misunderstand.

I asked the same question on the other jaws list and I was informed that you
couldn't silence that key.
You can try and be stubborn like me lol.
It's under setting center/manage keylabels.Don't look for alt, press "m" to
get to menu as alt is listed under that.
When you attempt to mute it, you will hear JAWS Settings Center
The mute/speak state of Menu cannot be toggled because this key is used
in combination with other keys.
OK

You said you did that on another machine, how so?
I ask as I would like to silence the alt key as well.

Hi All,

Would someone please remind me of the steps to silence a particular key in
jaws? I would like to silence the alt key, but it's been a long time since I
did it on another computer and I don't remember the steps.

Thanks in advance.

Kimber

Re: alphabetical list view

Soronel Haetir

If you are talking about a windows explorer window, tab to the header
bar, select the 'Name' item and hit space.
