There are several options. The top one is open hyperlink, which basically does nothing. What is strange is I have downloaded these before, although it's been a while. I expected to see the old "Save Target" prompt, but it's nowhere to be found.

I can no longer e-mail streaming mp 3 links to my Pac Mate from my desktop

Ryan Coverdell

I listen on my Pac Mate Omni to streaming mp-3 files using the tcpmp
player. Since not all sites provide direct key-board friendly links to
these streams I have to sometimes get them either through search
engines and other means through my desktop pc. I used to e-mail myself
these real player links by going into the send link by e-mail option.
Now, what Real Player provides is an image which is not interpreted by
the Pac Mate and its older browser. I have thought of pasting the
stream Url and e-mailing it to myself using my desktop pc. But when I
hit control plus i in the Real Player cloud, it does not bring up clip
info, but rather a dialogue that thinks I am playing a could and asks
me to enter info about the stream. How can I change this? This is very
important, so could some one from the list tell me what you would do
in this situation? I hope my question isn't too complicated. I want to
once more be able to send streaming mp-3 links from my desktop pc to
my Pac Mate. I tried creating a desktop short-cut to a stream, but
this cannot be interpreted by the Pac Mate as a streaming link.
Kind regards, Ryan Coverdell

You can pin the .exe file to the start menu so that you can easily launch it . I find Firefox 35 to be much more stable and JAWS friendly than FF 40. Mozilla keeps tinkering with Firefox to the detriment of screen reader users like us.

Hello, everyone.

Typically, with Firefox, I use the control L command, after which I can
paste a web site address into the edit box, and hit enter. I'm then able to
open The web site from that point.

However, I'm finding that the control L command no longer works with
Firefox 40.

Has anyone noticed this change, and are there good work-arounds?

I have gotten to the point where I actually prefer Firefox to Internet

Firefox behavior is somewhat disconcerting.

I'm using Jaws 16 and Windows 7 here.

Thank you.

Re: language question

Also, if you are using MS word or word pad as the editor, you can
produce accented characters by hitting ctrl+<accent key> followed by a
letter key, for instance to get "a with accent" using word you would
type ctrl+', a. At least this works when using a standard us keyboard
layout. It unfortunately does not work in the regular windows edit
control, or the custom edit used by Firefox.

On 9/3/15, Adrian Spratt via Jfw <jfw@lists.the-jdh.com> wrote:
Hi, Sandra.

Two points:

1. Remember Dave Carlson's point that different synthesizers lead to
different results in the JAWS dictionary. You might want to specify which
synthesizer you're using. Eloquence? I have the Dectalk Plus, which means
anything I get might not work with Eloquence.

2. You can obtain a list of symbols, including accented letters, by pressing
JAWS key+4 (on the number row above the letters). Arrow down the list. It
isn't complete, I'm afraid, but there are some French-accented letters.

Hi, everyone,

Continuing to solve this mystery—someone suggested a variant spelling to
use, but it already didn’t work in the post, so that’s out. However, someone
else suggested experimenting with the grave-accent. I am betraying my age
here, but when I was taking high school French, I had the dubious and
tedious task of hand-typing the accents half a space above the letters—yes,
on a Smith Corona! I have never yet learned how to produce the various
accents using a computer—so, if anyone would like to send me a list, I would
be so-o-o grateful! If this verges on off-topic, feel free to email me. I
will have more ammo for getting JAWS to reproduce the French
pronunciations—thanks in advance for new suggestions!

Thanks!

I can't imagine why we would want some $s and not others, but it's a good
example. Another trick, and this one goes back a while, is to use the
dictionary, particularly on an app-by-app basis. For instance, I taught my
Bible not to speak colons, which appeared between chapter and verse numbers,
but seemingly nowhere else. I tried the same trick with single-quote
apostrophes, but then found that contractions didn't read properly. Come to
think of it, that might be a good test of custom punctuation.

Howdy All,

This is a note on the difference between changing punctuation settings in
Jaws options, Insert + V, & customize punctuation in the default settings
center / configuration manager. They work backwards from one another.

When setting punctuation in Jaws options / quick settings, this controls the
amount of punctuation JAWS will speak / recognize. The default setting is
most. To hear less punctuation spoken you would select some or none.

When making changes in the customize punctuation list, this basically tells
Jaws how much of a selected punctuation mark to ignore. If you do not want
Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the
" all " selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, & all. In these selections they work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose " none "
for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the " all "
radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs.

Hope this helps some of you understand the differences between the 2
punctuation setting options.

Take care.

Hi Adrian & List Members,

Steps for, Assigning A Keystroke To Adjust Punctuation On The Fly

1. Press, Insert + F2, to open the Jaws Manager.
2. Goto Keyboard Manager and press enter.
3. Navigate to Default, & then tab 1 time to get into the list of options.
4. In the Default keyboard manager list navigate to Set Punctuation Level If
it says none. That means there has not been a keystroke assigned.
5. Press the Alt key to open the menues, & right arrow to Action. Then down
arrow to Add Keystroke, & press enter. Or press control + A which is the
shortcut for asigning a keystroke.
6. Insert a keystroke combination like control + dash for example. If the
combination is already being used for another command jaws will tell you.
Doing this in the Default Keyboard Manager, allows this keystroke to be used
in all aplications.
7. Tab to the Okay button, press the spacebar, then a dialogue will open
asking if you are sure you want to modify the default JKM. Press the
spacebar on the Yes option.

Now, every time you press the control + dash keystroke it changes the
punctuation level. So press the control + dash keystroke until you hear the
punctuation level you want.

If you ever want to change or remove the keystroke, simply repeat the above
steps.

Take care.

Re: language question

Hi, Sandra.

Two points:

1. Remember Dave Carlson's point that different synthesizers lead to different results in the JAWS dictionary. You might want to specify which synthesizer you're using. Eloquence? I have the Dectalk Plus, which means anything I get might not work with Eloquence.

2. You can obtain a list of symbols, including accented letters, by pressing JAWS key+4 (on the number row above the letters). Arrow down the list. It isn't complete, I'm afraid, but there are some French-accented letters.

Hi, everyone,

Continuing to solve this mystery—someone suggested a variant spelling to use, but it already didn’t work in the post, so that’s out. However, someone else suggested experimenting with the grave-accent. I am betraying my age here, but when I was taking high school French, I had the dubious and tedious task of hand-typing the accents half a space above the letters—yes, on a Smith Corona! I have never yet learned how to produce the various accents using a computer—so, if anyone would like to send me a list, I would be so-o-o grateful! If this verges on off-topic, feel free to email me. I will have more ammo for getting JAWS to reproduce the French pronunciations—thanks in advance for new suggestions!

Thanks!

When setting punctuation in Jaws options / quick settings, this controls the

When making changes in the customize punctuation list, this basically tells
Jaws how much of a selected punctuation mark to ignore. If you do not want

backwards than what you would think.

If you ever want to change or remove the keystroke, simply repeat the above
steps.

Take care.

language question

Sandra Streeter

Thanks!

Sandra
