Improper, misleading or even subject lines from a different thread
altogether have been an issue on this list for years. I think that troll
under the bridge has been catnapping quite a bit lately--and a good thing
too!

Hi All, With 11 & 12 safely on board, I have been poking around 13 and have a couple questions.

With Research It Weather, I'm getting readings in Celsius.

I seem to have forgotten how to navigate the Topics list in the JAWS help area. I wanted to learn more about OCR but could not open the topic under 'What's new'.

I have forgotten how to silence the 'alt' when doing 'alt /tab.

Lastly, the Merge utility is unavailable but maybe it will work in the final version.

That's all for now. Thanks, Mitch

Re: Hi

chris hallsworth <christopherh40@...>

Yes I am a beta tester of 13. Yes perhaps I should go 64 bit. I can still do that. I have a JAWS friendly shareware program that assists in me setting up a native VHD boot environment with Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit, or Windows Server 2008 R2, 64 bit only. VHD stands for virtual hard disk, a format used to represent an entire disk, including its file and folder contents and structure, in the form of a file, hence virtual.

Dorothy, you won't find a dictionary with the type of o c r with Jaws 13.
While it is true that most, if not all scanning programs that use o c r
(occular character recognition) in the case of Jaws 13, they are referring
to on-screen graphical character recognition which is something prior
versions of Jaws were unable to interpret. So, back to your favourite o c r

Re: dictionary?

robert hebert <roberthebert@...>

Dorothy, you won't find a dictionary with the type of o c r with Jaws 13.
While it is true that most, if not all scanning programs that use o c r
(occular character recognition) in the case of Jaws 13, they are referring
to on-screen graphical character recognition which is something prior
versions of Jaws were unable to interpret. So, back to your favourite o c r
dictionary! I'm curious though, why did you stop at "yellow fever?"--you
were oh so close, "z" being the next and final letter of the alphabet.

If I am allowed to remind you your OCR will have a large selection, even a

medical dictionary., take latter in small doses however. Only when I got as
far as Yellow fever did I realize it was addictive Dorothy

Does anyone know if there are any dictionary programs accesable with jaws.
I'll probably be needing one for my English class this year. \

Re: JAWS 13

Placing quotes around the link unfortunately did not work. Problem was that
there was a blank space between "2011 and .mp3.
Solution: I have selected most characters in your link omitting the space
before the .mp3. I also left off the "http://"
Now the link begins with "podcast" but the link still works fine--I tested
it a few times. Another benefit is that the link now fits on a single line.
One caveat: Without the prefix of "http:// the line of text does not appear
as a link in the message. This being the case, the following text does work
as a link when pasted into a browser so, here it is.

podcast.freedomscientific.com/FSCast/episodes/fscast058-september2011.mp3

the line wrapped so you will need to copy the entire link in to the
clipboard in order for the link to work. maybe if i place quotes
around it it will work for you:

Legend has it that on Tuesday 9/13/2011 11:50 AM, Charles Coe said:

I just finished listening to the podcast about 13. It looks good and it
seen
that they are working on making it much better. I like the OCR feature. I
will let us see what is there in a picture with text. If you get a web page
that has graphic with text and jaws can not read it because is not text but
a picture of text the OCR will read it to you.

Know that--that's why I specifically said "Jaws 12." For greater clarity, I
could have put Jaws 12 in the subject line. Sincerely though, I do
