I apologize for writing the entire list. I tried but could never find an email address for the list moderator. I need assistance. Would one of the moderators please contact me off list? I apologize in advance for this, but I just cannot figure out the list issue I am having; I do not see my own emails posted to the list, although I believe they are going through.

It will work much better after that. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of Peter Tesar via Jfw Sent: Tuesday, September 01, 2015 11:30 AM To: jfw@lists.the-jdh.com Cc: Peter Tesar Subject: Re: using jaws16 with windows10? Hello to new Windows 10 users, I just upgraded my 5 year old laptop to Windows 10. It had Windows 7 and it had a WiFi connection so I didn't need to figure out how to make a net connection. I chose to upgrade preserving all the existing files and applications. That part worked. Now some notes to keep in mind. The current version of JAWS 16 works minimally. The latest version of NVDA 2015.3 works much better. To the person asking the question. How did you get JAWS into your new laptop? Install NVDA 2015.3 to get more use out of Windows 10 until JAWS 16 and 17 come out. In Windows 10, the Windows key + i will bring up the setting list. But JAWS might not help. I am guessing, the sheveron button (system tray) might give a connection path. Press the Windows-logo key and then close the start menu with ESCAPE. Then tab to the sheveron button and then arrow down or right. There might be a network item to select. Opening the start menu by pressing the Windows logo key will have the edit field. JAWS 16 will not announce this. NVDA does and with NVDA you can arrow down through a list. JAWS 16 cannot do this. Maybe other Windows 10 users will have more advice. Peter T. I just have a lot to learn with the ribbon concept and all, coming from Outlook Express. I think Outlook is superior to Outlook Express. I have had it for three weeks and realize that I had OE for 11 years and did not learn it over night. You can hit Control Y and go to various boxes. Control 3 takes you directly to Contacts; Control 1 or Control Shift I will take you back to Inbox. Also you can hit Control Y then I to go back to it. One thing that I liked better about OE is that it might say, 50 messages, 44 unread. With this, you just get the unread, and you can't hit Control U to get to them. You have to arrow to them. Joseph that helped me got it fixed where that the unread message does not go away when I arrow through lists to get to personal messages. It has Favorites. That is, that you Control Tab, and there you have a list of your boxes, Calendar, Journal, Notes, etc. I have tried to get a book on it, but the library has none. I understand there is one for $80, which I would not be purchasing at this point, since I just bought computer, JAWS upgrades then had to replace hearing aids. A good working set up with it is the contacts. When writing an e-mail, when you are in the address fields, To, cc, or bcc, you press Alt Period, and the contact list appears like it does for a sighted person. You must arrow through names, and when you see the name you want, hit enter. Go through the list until you have them, then press enter twice. As far as I know, with attachments, you get on the document you want to attach and press Control C to copy it. You go back to Outlook, enter your contact(s), go to Subject, and then paste the copy in the body. That is way different than I have had, where I could pull up a directory, go to the item I wanted to attach and press Enter. I don't know how to work in the extra features, but have listed some appointments in Calendar. Joseph the Free Tech guy from another list has spent a lot of time getting me to the point where I am. There is one section called notes. It could work for me, when I'm on the phone taking information. Then I could work on it and either file it else where or use it in an e-mail, if I want. That is a good place to store shipping information, etc. I have set up a box though called All mine, where I park e-mails like that with tracking number and that sort of information. I set up a box called Keepers, where I have stored tutorial information regarding Outlook and Office 2013. I set up a box for one of my lists, but must have missed a step, because nothing was coming to my Inbox and everything going there, so I had to move everything out of that one and just delete the box. To do that, you Control Tab to Favorites and arrow to the box and hit Delete. I hope this rambling gives you a tiny glimpse of Outlook. Re: JAWS Library entries - with "wildcards" ...
Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Library entries? You can use them when creating dictionary entries for a root word and various derivatives. Unlike Dos search terms, they have to come at the end, though.

Another trick, and this one goes back a while, is to use the dictionary, particularly on an app-by-app basis. For instance, I taught my Bible not to speak colons, which appeared between chapter and verse numbers, but seemingly nowhere else. I tried the same trick with single-quote apostrophes, but then found that contractions didn't read properly. Come to think of it, that might be a good test of custom punctuation. They work backwards from one another. When setting punctuation in Jaws options / quick settings, this controls the amount of punctuation JAWS will speak / recognize. The default setting is most. To hear less punctuation spoken you would select some or none. When making changes in the customize punctuation list, this basically tells Jaws how much of a selected punctuation mark to ignore. If you do not want Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the " all " selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down through. They are none, some, most, & all. In these selections they work backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose " none " for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the " all " radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs. Hope this helps some of you understand the differences between the 2 punctuation setting options. Take care. Mike This email was sent from my, iBarstool. In the Default keyboard manager list navigate to Set Punctuation Level If it says none. That means there has not been a keystroke assigned. 5. Press the Alt key to open the menues, & right arrow to Action. Then down arrow to Add Keystroke, & press enter. Or press control + A which is the shortcut for asigning a keystroke. 6. Insert a keystroke combination like control + dash for example. If the combination is already being used for another command jaws will tell you. Doing this in the Default Keyboard Manager, allows this keystroke to be used in all aplications. 7. Tab to the Okay button, press the spacebar, then a dialogue will open asking if you are sure you want to modify the default JKM. Press the spacebar on the Yes option. I seem to be having luck with ctrl+l in Fire Fox 40. I do notice that it has autofill turned on. Sometimes Jaws has trouble reading what's added when I start typing.

But, now it seems to be working just fine. I know. I'll forget about this thread and the problem will come up later. I did make those changes to the Fire Fox configuration file that were suggested for screen reader users some time ago. Could that make a difference? Just wondering. Are you pressing ctrl+l the second time while you are still in the edit box, or after the page you want loads. Sometimes pressing tab moves out of the Search or enter address edit combo box to a list of suggestions. Other times it moves to the search Bing or what ever your prefered search engine is. Somewhat confusing. Needs a manual for screen reader users. Bob

You can create an "unread" folder for unread mail. This collects unread email from all folders where you direct email. I haven't done it in a while, but you'll find instructions via Google.

Cc: Carolyn Arnold Subject: RE: office 365 I think Outlook 2013 is a good system. Me telling you about is about like me describing how the new car models look this year.
