Re: How do I get to where I can paste some JAWS script files?

Ann Byrne

1. Press the windows key.
2. Up arrow to all programs
3. Right arrow once to back submenu
4. Arrow down twice to get into the list of programs.
5. Down arrow to Jaws16 (closed) and right arrow to open it.
6. Down arrow to 'explore JAWS' (closed) and right arrow to open it.
7. Down arrow to 'explore shared settings' and press enter to open it.
8. Paste your files here.

Good luck!

Subject: More on Amazon music players and JAWS

Hi,

After posting the response from amazon on their player not workingwith JAWS,

I noticed an unopened e-mail from Amazon dated during the time a friend
helped me buy music as mp3's from Amazon

Thee-mail had specific instructions for screenreader users as how to
download purchased mp3's from the Amazon page

I am not interested right now in using Apple products-and have used the
Android device-

As a beginner.

I like the way the Amazon music player plays music. A friend walked me
through the steps that a sighted person would use to operate the player.

Also getting music downloaded to the Amazon player would make sense from
ease of use as there is so much music available (and playlists do not
disappear from amazon player).

There are obviously are (for lack of a better word) code within the
Windows o s to permit screen readers to work which should permit our using
Amazon's player.

I hope others might contact both Amazon and F S to ask both companies to
work together to get the

Accessible code into the Amazon music player so it can work using JAWS.

.

Thank you so much.

FaceBook and reading individual viewer comments on History Channel programs

Tusing <ptusing@...>

Hi,

I am not surprised that I have problems reading viewer comments to the
History Channel FaceBook page as the History Channel's sites are really
visual.

After signing in to FaceBook, I typed in the words "history" and the
particular program (Vikings) and was

Taken to the FaceBook page.

The viewer comments are at the far right of the page.

I used "insert + z" and every thingI could try but

Could not get to the first comment of several comments arranged by time. A
sighted person was

Reading the comments which I was unable to get to.

Could some one explain some steps to find and read

Any viewer comments on the history Chhannel page?

I would really appreciate the help.

I'm going to make an educated guess that it may have to do with the types of
video drivers that are installed in the different computers. I have
experienced JAWS not identifying the password field at start-up. It never
reads that to me correctly either. So far, not a big fan of Windows 10.
I'm hopeful it will get better. I seem to remember Windows 8 starting out

Hi Mike,

Well, I am not getting the same problem that you are getting with your jaws
cursor. Even though, I have found other problems, but curiously the problems
are different in 4 different computers. Would be interesting to know why
jaws is working differently in 4 different computers, when all windows 10
installation are new, and all jaws installation are new also. A couple of
hours ago, I installed jwindows 10 in a new computer, Lenovo desktop, and
jaws has been working very good. I am noticing a problem when I press alt
tab when I want to go to other window, but it doesn't happen always. I am
still noticing that when the computer is in the log in window, jaws is not
able to read the text field where we should type the password. If I press
tab, nothing happen, if I try to use insert tab to read where is the Pc
cursor, nothing happen. I have to press alt tab two times to make jaws catch
the control where is the password field.
I really don't understand why all these problems are different in each
computer.

Dropbox and Selective sync

brian albriton

Here's some instructions for selective sync and I'm not able to get to that
option.

Is selective sync accessible to jaws users?

To enable Selective Sync, head to your Dropbox preferences from your
desktop:

Select which folders to sync on Windows

1.Click on the Dropbox icon from the system tray.

2.Click on the gear icon and select Preferences... from the menu.

3.Click the Account tab. (Dropbox for Business users: If you have connected
your personal and work Dropboxes, you'll also need to select the Dropbox for
which you want to change settings at the top of the tab.)

4.Click the Selective Sync... button.

Re: VLC media player

Brad Martin

Jim,
You're not doing it wrong. I've found the only way to get Control Up or Down to work is to use the JAWS Pass through key combination, JAWS Key 3. I just discovered the mouse wheel thing and personally I find that much easier.

Heya folks,

Am running windows 7 64bit and Jaws 16 and Am familiar with VLC shortcut

keyboard keys except for the mouse scroller wheel. I have checked all
settings and control up arrow doesn't do anything for me and ignore keyboard
shortcuts is unchecked as well.

Is there a way I can have a shortcut key for volume up and down on my
keyboard?

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

needing to run earlier versions of Jaws

Jean Menzies <jemenzies@...>

Changed the subject line.

Here is an example of why I won't upgrade and why I need to run an earlier version of Jaws. Jaws 16 will not read hidden text attributes in Word. I must, must, must have that functionality for my work, as I use the Duxbury Word template, which uses hidden text for text markup in Word. Jaws 15 reads this, so I need to stay with Jaws 15 until FS gets around to fixing this. Yes, I have reporrted it, with no resolution. I ultimately will need someone to verify for me that it does work in a future Jaws release before upgrading. With no option to simply load a previous version that works for this feature, I don't want to destroy my work productivity. For those interested, Hidden text can be turned on or off just like paragraph marks. Its under the Tools, Options, Display, where you can check show hidden text.

Don't mean to be "smart"; but, why would you want to use previous versions
of JAWS if you have the latest version running successfully. I'm sure that
there is a really good reason for it! :) :)

What I lose is the ability to use previous versions of JAWS.

Windows 10 won't be free after a year. I believe the 2020 date refers
to the
end up MS support. But for now, as Brad says, who has the time? I'm
waiting
for the first service pack (MS always comes out with one) and FS's first
rounds of fixes, all of which I expect will appear within the year.

What you gain is that, in 2020, when you finally decide to upgrade,
Windows10 won't be free anymore.

Hi,

I've been following all this Windows 10 stuff with great interest, and
I just have a question (with a lot of background first):

So FS says you shouldn't use Edge, you should use Firefox or IE. (I'm
doing that now in Windows 7.) You can't use the built in mail program;
you should use something like Thunderbird or Outlook. (I'm doing that
now in Windows 7.) And you should use Adobe Reader for PDF documents.
(I'm doing that now in Windows 7.) Reviews I've read all seem to
indicate that Cortana is iffy at best.

So why should I upgrade again? I'm not being smart; I'd really like to
know if I'm going to gain anything other than having a new operating
system that I have to use in the same old ways. The only benefit I can
see is that Windows 10 will be supported beyond January of 2020, where
Windows
7 will not. Am I overlooking some wonderful new feature that should
cause me to want to hurry and upgrade? Or does the old saying, "If it
ain't broke, don't fix it," apply here? I'd really honestly like to
know if JAWS users in particular are finding anything beneficial in
the upgrade, or if it's just something fun to do to your functioning
computer to see if it will still function.

P.S. Anybody on this list from Louisiana and thinking Cortana, as in
mall?

disabling Forms Mode

Sandra Streeter

Hope no one minds a somewhat-high-maintenance member... I am part-self-taught, part-trained-by-state-agency, part trained-using-audio-tutorials, and certain concepts are still either fuzzy or untried, despite my years of JAWS experience! I am also a highly visual learner, and process things best with a combination of Braille notes and hands-on... BTW, does anyone know if JAWS training materials are available in Braille? I do have the quick-ref booklet, but it’s of limited use. One question I’ve had for years: when materials mention an “element,” what exactly is that? Also, is there a keystroke for skipping to new messages on a website such as ours?

Really appreciate everyone’s feedback—I am the type that needs to know why things work the way they do, before really mastering concepts! Far more insight than I have previously. I will also try the Automatic setting again; didn’t seem to change things, or maybe I just didn’t understand it completely... Also, Kevin, I changed the Forms Mode sound to a long match-strike, due to some mild Asperger’s; it may be that I will have to select the next-least-intrusive sound, if the softness of that sound is making it harder for me to negotiate using Forms Mode. It was a nice idea, but not necessarily the most practical (LOL)! So, there’s no longer a “pop,” which I did experience as jarring; will have to see what other choices I have.

Carolyn, though I’m not familiar with the back story, I will keep Meredith in prayer—I’m a prayin’ woman. Your scenario happened to me just a few weeks ago, when I was trying to email my sister-in-law about a lunch date and ended up sending it to my mom instead—oops! No worries. Thanks!
