Re: facebook and reading someone else's timeline

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

Thanks, that helps a little, but is not as elegant as the j/k trick for
moving through my own news feed.

But, yeah. I can turn on the virtual PC cursor, then H until I get to "News
Feed". Once there, each subsequent H moves me to a posting on their
timeline.

Thanks.

Subject: facebook and reading someone else's timeline

Hi all. Another facebook accessibility questions.

Once I go to someone else's timeline or facebook page (anything other
than
my own timeline, actually), how do I quickly navigate through the posted
news items on that page?

I understand that I can use j and k on my own news feed to move between
articles. But if I'm on someone else's timeline, j and k have no effect,
and
as a result, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to move between
articles
on a timeline.

Is anyone else seeing this? Any workarounds would be appreciated.
-Paul

JAWS tandem and demo mode

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

Hi all. Should I be able to connect to someone's computer, using JAWS
tandem, if they are running the 40-minute demo version of JAWS?

I just tried doing this, and was not successful. I gave them the meeting ID
over the phone. They entered it and hit ENTER. At that point, my Tandem
dialog closed, but our computers never did connect. Over the phone, I could
hear his JAWS reading some error code out of a dialog box, and prompting him
to hit the OK button. On my end, INSERT + ALT + TAB caused JAWS to tell me
that I needed to be in an active tandem session, so, my JAWS did not think
we were connected.

Very strange. I thought the 40-minute demo version was supposed to be the
full version, so I expected this to work.

Any info would be appreciated.

Facebook accessibility, again: Notifications

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

Hi all. Sorry to bring this up again, but I've been having trouble getting
to the list of notifications.

According to the facebook accessibility help page, I should be able to press
ALT + 5, then ENTER, to go to the list of notifications. (I'm using Internet
Explorer.). However, this keystroke has no effect in general. In fact, only
1 and 2 seem to do anything (home and timeline, respectively).

I have the following workaround, but it's not reliable:
1. Hit ALT + 2, but do not follow it with ENTER.
2. This puts focus on the button / link for your timeline.
3. Tab or DOWN ARROW until you get to the notifications button.
4. Press SPACEBAR to open the drop down menu of notifications.
5. Now, finally, press ALT + 5, then ENTER. It works now, and will take you
to a page containing all your notifications.

Is anyone else having a similar issue? Any other workarounds?
-Paul

JAWS with Kaspersky Total Security package...

HAMILTON

I simply have no interfacing capacity with this entir-everything software
package. My techie feels it is the best; but, we did not expect this
problem to arise.

Does anyone use Kaspersky with JAWS successfully? If so, was a special
"script" required? I have bought it already, and cannot get my money back;
so, any help would be appreciated.

Re: repairing jaws

Michal Nowicki <mnowicki4@...>

It is because of the mirror display driver. FS now has a page on upgrading
to Windows 10 that contains specific instructions. Basically, if you
upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, you must reinstall the latest build of
JAWS 16 over the current installation after the update before it will work
properly.

Instead of notification area, my Win7 has a toolbars tab. However, that notification area sounds familiar.

Hi Jim,
in windows 7, 8, and 8.1, if one of the items on the taskbar is the focus, then if you press alt+enter, a properties dialog opens, and on the taskbar page, there's a notification area customize button.
You can use any of the items on the taskbar: the start button, the taskbar buttons, or the icons in the notification area(system tray).
In Windows 7, you can move the focus to the start button by pressing windows key, then escape. But this doesn't work in windows 8 or 8.1.
However, in windows 7, 8, and 8.1 you can press windows key + T to move to the first taskbar button, and then press alt+enter to open the properties dialog.

Hi there,

I'm using a Dell Venue tablet and need to know how to allow the items in
my system tray to be displayed.
I do the Insert-f11 command, and it only shows two things, when I think
there could be more. I simply don't remember how to enable all of the
things to be displayed in Windows 8.

While I'm at it, how can I find out if my tablet is eligible to upgrade to
Windows 10?

Thanks.

are not installed correctly. I have tried a reboot as it suggested. But,
that did not fix the problem. It also suggested to do a repair. All I haave
is the downloaded filees. How then do I do a repair?

Thank you for getting me out of this mess!!!

Mark

As is the case with my PC's TaskBar, I suspect that all of your active icons will be shown on your TaskBar. Once there, use the left/right arrows to see what's there. However, I am not certain that all "hidden" icons will be shown.

Hi there,

I'm using a Dell Venue tablet and need to know how to allow the items
in my system tray to be displayed.
I do the Insert-f11 command, and it only shows two things, when I
think there could be more. I simply don't remember how to enable all
of the things to be displayed in Windows 8.

While I'm at it, how can I find out if my tablet is eligible to
upgrade to
Windows 10?

Thanks.

Les Kriegler <kriegler@...>

Mark, you won't see that option for a while. The installer will begin as if
it is doing a fresh install. But after a few minutes, you should see the
repair option. I don't know why this was removed, as in prior versions of
Jaws, one could run a repair from the add/remove dialog in windows.

Re: repairing jaws 16 on windows 10

Michael Mote

Mark, if you need to do a JAWS repair, first make sure you have the
executable file for the version of JAWS. For example, if you have JAWS
16.0.4350 installed on your computer, you would need to download that build
from the FS web-site. Once you have this file downloaded, you will need to
highlight the file. Once you're focused on the file name, press shift plus
the applications key. Then scroll down to the option that says copy path.
Press enter on this option. The path name of the file is now copied to your
clipboard. Next, press Windows key plus r to bring up the run dialogue.
Press control plus the letter V to paste in the path name, and then add this
command to the end of the line. " /type repair. Then you will hear a
series of clicks while JAWS repairs your installed version. Hope this
helps!

Thanks to all.

Re: repairing jaws 16 on windows 10

Adrian Spratt

I'm going to copy below the instructions as posted some time ago by Mike B. this comes straight from my files without reviewing for this post because I'm in a rush, so my apologies for any needless notes, etc. Despite the seeming complexity of these instructions, I remember the process went quickly for me.

Mike B. The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.
Note; jaws11 is the example, however, this will work for 12, 13, 14, & 15 as well.
1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair into the main root of the " C " drive. For example; If you are running Jaws11 most recent you would paste a copy of " J11.0.1430-32bit.exe " into the main root of the " C " drive.
To open the main root of the C " drive, go to the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C.
2. With the Jaws " .exe " pasted into the "C" drive, highlight the " .exe ", and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive. What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into the Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the Jaws executible into the Run box without copying as you did, you would have pasted the whole file into the Run Box instead of just the title.
3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press Windows key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. For the following, remember to type a capitalC ," C:\ " without the quotes or spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws title, press your end key to take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following " /type repair" without the quotes but, with the spaces.
C:\J11.0.1447-32bit.exe /type repair
Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper spaces, Forward & back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the front of the title and press enter to start the repair.

Still Mike B, A 2nd way to do the same thing, from: Brian Lee
After downloading the executable file, do the following to repair the installation:
1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.
3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.
4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says "open colon edit combo", press the end key and then press spacebar.
5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately by the word type then a space and then the word repair.
6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.
7. Follow the prompts.
