Re: Off-topic: Openbook and Pearl for solving captcha?

George B

when you run print screen then you need to print it and take a picture of it with the pearl camera with openbook and then let it run through the ocr.
it most like will not work since the letters / words are so scrambled it takes a person with eyes sometimes several tries to get it correct

Subject: Off-topic: Openbook and Pearl for solving captcha?

Dear Listers And Moderator,
This time my question is related to Pearl and Openbook for solving
captcha. I tried a lot to subscribe to open-book group on yahoo, but
neither the request is approved nor the moderator of the group replies
back to the email sent. Yahoo customer care also doesn’t do anything
unfortunately. And that is why I brought this here.
In the latest podcast, one of the things explained was that If you do
print screen, and run it through pearl, then there are chances of the
captcha getting recognized and read.
Now since there is no option to just convert any image into text
without taking snapshot through Pearl, does that mean that after doing
print screen, you can take picture of your monitor and then can read
it?
Or, is there any other way to which they are referring too in the
podcast?
Any explanation may be sent to me off the list, since many of us would
not want to read about openbook and pearl here.
Thanks And Regards,
Amar Jain.

I am a fan of RSGames, an online server on which persons using screen-readers can play Monopoly, Uno, Yahtzee, etc. with other people over the web. Kitchen's Inc. has many simple downloadable games for your computer. I have also heard of Hope, an accessible version of Pandora, the music station creation website (but have not tried it). These accessible software programs have been proven to be JAWS-friendly. RSGames and Kitchen's Inc. are free, and I am very fond of free. Hope cost $10.00. I run Vista with JAWS 10 (Sad, I know).

What other accessible entertainment programs are you aware of? How much did you pay for them? What version of JAWS and Windows are you using with them that make them accessible?

Gerald,
Perhaps it's related to JAWS because John is writing JAWS scripts for iTunes from Apple and needs to contact their accessibility group. Perhaps also you should allow James to do the list moderating. He seems to be on the job!

James, no offence but do you think if I wasn't a jaws user I would have

are saying installing windows doesn't automatically mean you're going
to install jaws but I've been on this list for a long time now and
wouldn't have been if I wasn't a jaws user. My personal opinion is that
people mustn't even open mails if the topic doesn't concern them, if I
have to open every mail coming from this list I'll go crazy.

I believe this is a JAWS issue and here's why:

Because JAWS does not come pre-loaded in a Windows install like
Voiceover does, there is a "bootstrapping" process that one must
endeavor to repeat in order to install Windows so that JAWS can then
be installed.

Generally, I'm in favor of keeping the list on topic, especially
when folks abuse the priviledge. But I don't think this is the case
here and there seems to be widespread interest in the topic, as it's
a situation faced by every JAWS user sooner or later.

Or so it seems to me.

I

Hi folks,
Sorry to be a bother but I have misplaced the accessibility email for apple or iTunes. We aretrying to get apple's attention through as many channels as we can.
We're also trying to get in touch with Stevie Wonder who made the push for iPods to be voice over, or at least he helped.
If someone has the email for apple's accessibility that would be great.
Thanks,
John

James, no offence but do you think if I wasn't a jaws user I would
have subscribed to this list just to ask this question? Yes I get what
you are saying installing windows doesn't automatically mean you're
going to install jaws but I've been on this list for a long time now
and wouldn't have been if I wasn't a jaws user. My personal opinion is
that people mustn't even open mails if the topic doesn't concern them,
if I have to open every mail coming from this list I'll go crazy.

I believe this is a JAWS issue and here's why:

Because JAWS does not come pre-loaded in a Windows install like
Voiceover does, there is a "bootstrapping" process that one must
endeavor to repeat in order to install Windows so that JAWS can then
be installed.

Generally, I'm in favor of keeping the list on topic, especially when
folks abuse the priviledge. But I don't think this is the case here
and there seems to be widespread interest in the topic, as it's a
situation faced by every JAWS user sooner or later.

Or so it seems to me.

sighted assistance? Can you switch on narrator or something with some
keystroke?

Thank you Ben. We all use windows but have to install windows in order
to install jaws and it's not as if we subscribed to this list just to
ask this question, I'm a jaws user like everybody else on this list. I
think people on the list should chil, if a topic doesn't concern you,
why do you open the mail in the first place.
