Re: opening recent word documents in 2013

Carolyn Arnold <4carolyna@...>

I have Office 2010, went over there, tried a few things - Alt R, Left Arrow to Recent, about five left Arrows. You have to go down that ribbon, but the stuff is there. It told me the files where I had been.

Best to you from,

Carolyn

Hi, Mike. Whether or not you first press escape, Jenny points us to the alt-f, open option. But I'm glad you posted now because I hadn't checked this method when first reading this thread, and I don't think it addresses the original question. Here's what I find.

To begin with, you can press o after alt-f to go right into the open tab. Hence, alt-f, o.

When no document is already open, this "open" menu rings up the list of files in the most recently used folder or, if Word has just been opened, the location where Word folders are stored.

However, if there is an open file, this menu, among other things, indicates if prior versions of the file exist and, presumably, enable you to open them.

That said, the threshold question was whether, in recent versions of Word, it is possible to find the most recent five, or whatever, most recently opened documents. In Word 2003, you pressed alt-f, then arrowed up through that list. I don't find that option after pressing alt-f, o.

After you open Word, press escape.

Then alt-f. You will be on the ribbon

You may already be on open, but if you arrow up and down, you will find
open.

Tab to recent.

Tab again to the list of documents.

Also, pressing control-o for open and then tab will take you to recent.

Press tab to file list.

When you press control-o JAWS does not speak so tab anyway.

Re: opening recent word documents in 2013

Ann Byrne

Do you need the escape key in order to get out of the weird opening view??? Here are a couple of set up notes from CathyAnne Murtha's Word 2013 textbook that will hopefully make the escape key unnecessary:

Disable Reading View
By default, most documents open in Reading view within Word. This is difficult for screen readers to maneuver. To disable this setting:
* Open Microsoft Word Backstage (ALT-F)
* Activate Options (T)
* On the first screen of the options, navigate (TAB and SHIFT-TAB) to "Open Email Attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" and uncheck the checkbox.

Activate the OK button to close the options and save the changes.
Disable the Word Start Screen

When you first launch Word, it displays a start screen. You can disable this start screen in the options.
* Open Microsoft Word Backstage (ALT-F)
* Activate Options (T)
* On the first screen of the options, navigate (TAB and SHIFT-TAB) to "Show the start screen when this application starts" and uncheck the checkbox with SPACEBAR.

Activate the OK button to close the options and save the changes.

Well, I am not entirely sure what you are wanting to do.
If you want to see a document that has been edited as if there had never
been any edits, you can "reject" all the changes, assuming the document was
edited with "track changes" turned on. That, will, however, permanently
reverse all of the changes

To: jfw@lists.the-jdh.com. So, you are better make a back-up of the file
first.
You can temporarily hide the changes by putting the document in "final"
view. That, however, is like pretending all the changes were "accepted."
There is also a view called "Original," but I think it shows the changes in
a kind of reverse though I confess I've never tried this "Original" view.
Perhaps it does what you want, shows the document as though no changes have
been made, but without, in fact, affecting the structure of the file.
Try Alt and then r followed by tab. Arrow right until you get past
comments. Then tab until you come to the list of four views:
final, final showing mark-up, original, and something I don't remember.
I'm going from memory.

Hi,

What is the best way for me to see the text as is if another person has made
insertions and or deletions in Word 2013? I don't want to see the changes I
made when I emailed it to the other person.

Is there a way to read what the document contains as if it was never
tampered with, but has the changes incorporated into the document?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Lauren

Kevin,

I'm not sure you've gone to the right area. Start typing "devices" (as in, devices and printers) into the Windows search field. Pres enter on the first item, and the list will appear. When I had an HP printer, I had a hard time isolating it on that list and had to resort to the JAWS cursor and the insert-PC key combo. I don't have this difficulty with my new Brother printer, so in my experience it's something about HP products.

Hello Listers,
I have a
hp laserjet pro mfp m127 fn, Jaws 16, Windows 7, 64 bit, and have installed it’s program, at least it shows up on my hard drive, but it does not show up in the control panel, nor when I press control P, on a word document, and arrow around to select a printer. A sighted friend got the printer to work manually, but I can not direct it to print using Jaws. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Kevin.

Re: Spelling on word 2013

Michal Nowicki <mnowicki4@...>

Microsoft unfortunately introduced some accessibility issues in Word 2013,
and navigating the spell checker is probably the biggest of these problems.
For instance, JAWS no longer announces spelling errors automatically every
time; sometimes you must press Tab and Shift Tab to accomplish this task.
Additionally, the spellcheck hotkeys (ignore, change, ignore all, etc.) no
longer work, though pressing them without the Alt key (I = ignore, c =
change, etc.) does the trick sometimes.

I hope Microsoft addresses these accessibility barriers in Office 2016.
Meanwhile, I hope the above observations help.

Hi all,
Probably this question is a little bit stupid, but I don't see the way to
get what I need.
On Microsoft Word 2015, specifically on Office 365, when I press F7, to use
the spelling features, the dialog that opens is very different than that
appears on Outlook 2013. In the dialog on word 2013, doesn't appear the list
of suggestions. I tried to search the dialog using the OCR, even though it
didn't see anything like list of suggestions in this window. It doesn't
exist, or exist a keystroke to go to the list of suggestions?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: bounces

Michal Nowicki <mnowicki4@...>

When I studied at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, a
residential school specializing in teaching adaptive skills, I was in one of
the most restrictive computer environments imaginable. Students were
prohibited from visiting any site that requires them to enter their personal
information (e.g. online stores and all sites requiring users to log in),
and many web pages, including Google, were completely blocked. As for
e-mail, all attachments with nontextual extensions (photos, music, videos,
etc.) were filtered out to prevent school computers from catching a virus.
Moreover, all traffic from outside the state network was marked as spam,
unless the address was in the user's contacts.

That being said, I strongly suspect your e-mail administrator's settings
interfere with your communication on this list. While there may be a
setting you can change yourself, I'm afraid the matter lies in the hands of
the state, which may have to work with the list administrator. I'm sorry I
can't be of greater assistance, but I hope your issues get resolved quickly.

This is really for the administrator, so I'd be happy to go off list. I
just had to resubscribe, due to too many bounces. Anybody care to elaborate
on that? This is my state e-mail account. I just process them-read them,
delete them, respond to them, whatever. Is there anything I can do to
prevent this from happening?

I've had some strange experiences. A certain number of these messages wind
up in quarantine, or in junk mail. Once everything was funneled to junk
for several months; I thought I'd been dropped, and couldn't figure out why.
Now this.

Well, I am not entirely sure what you are wanting to do.
If you want to see a document that has been edited as if there had
never been any edits, you can "reject" all the changes, assuming
the document was edited with "track changes" turned on. That,
will, however, permanently reverse all of the changes

To: jfw@lists.the-jdh.com. So, you are better make a back-up of
the file first.
You can temporarily hide the changes by putting the document in
"final" view. That, however, is like pretending all the changes
were "accepted."
There is also a view called "Original," but I think it shows the
changes in a kind of reverse though I confess I've never tried
this "Original" view. Perhaps it does what you want, shows the
document as though no changes have been made, but without, in
fact, affecting the structure of the file.
Try Alt and then r followed by tab. Arrow right until you get
past comments. Then tab until you come to the list of four views:
final, final showing mark-up, original, and something I don't
remember.
I'm going from memory.

Hi,

What is the best way for me to see the text as is if another
person has made insertions and or deletions in Word 2013? I don't
want to see the changes I made when I emailed it to the other
person.

Is there a way to read what the document contains as if it was
never tampered with, but has the changes incorporated into the
document?

Thanks.

Ted, I'm not having problem either. The only problem I have is that Insert, Shift R goes to the list instead of to the e-mail sender.

Best to you from,

Carolyn

Ted, I'm having none of these problems with list messages. Very occasionally, a list message ends up in my junk folder, but a lot less often than the messages from other services. I wonder if it's worth a call to your spam protection or server company.

This is really for the administrator, so I'd be happy to go off list. I just had to resubscribe, due to too many bounces. Anybody care to elaborate on that? This is my state e-mail account. I just process them-read them, delete them, respond to them, whatever. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?

I've had some strange experiences. A certain number of these messages wind up in quarantine, or in junk mail. Once everything was funneled to junk for several months; I thought I'd been dropped, and couldn't figure out why. Now this.

Re: How do I get Convenient OCR to work?

Dave...

Mike,

A couple points... First the "D" is only relevant for PDF documents. Second,
there are two other letters - S for screen and C for Control (i.e. button,
label, etc.).

You need to press and hold the Insert-key and spacebar to start and
then follow it with the letter O.

If you pres and hold the insert key and spacebar then pressing the
letter O and follow that with the question mark you will get the help
for convenient OCR.

Hi,
I'm trying to read from a website what I believe is a scanned PDF image
of a release form for an outdoor activity.
I do caps lock plus spacebar and then o, but nothing happens apparently
at that point.
Any help appreciated.
