Your suggestion finally motivated me to test the new "semi-auto" forms mode, as well as manual. I think I'm going to revert to manual because pages load more quickly. With forms mode on full or semi auto, JAWS pops into an edit field when a page loads, which itself takes a moment, and then I usually need another moment to extricate it with the PC cursor. Using manual forms mode, I think I've determined my BofA problem isn't with JAWS, but with the bank suddenly not remembering my username. It means another call to the banks' miserable customer service phone line.

The 32768 is the total character limit. As I said, if using NTFS
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
(which is the default for hard drives) each level of the file system is limited to 256 characters but there is also a total limit of 32768 characters, that total limit includes any leading drive specifier and all path separators (the "c:\"and the '\' characters). That 32768 character limit also applies if you are doing something on the network and there it includes machine and share names. IEFoexample you might have a network path like: \\my_computer\c_drive\users\myself\documents\some_file.doc Such a path cannot exceed 32768 characters in total length. Honestly, I would be very scared if you ever got anywhere close to that length.

ANSI appears to be an updated version of ASCII, a code designed to enable machines to represent characters. It seems the original ASCII is outdated, while ANSI itself has had to be updated periodically.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
There's also Unicode, which is the first 128 characters of ASCII/ANSI. When you press the 5 key on the numpad once, JAWS verbalizes the letter, punctuation mark, etc., of the character where you have focus. Press that key twice quickly, and JAWS says the character phonetically. Press it three times quickly, and JAWS gives the character's Unicode value. Here's Wiki on all three systems: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCII
