To always show all icons in the system tray

1. Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then click Properties.

2. Under Notification area, click Customize.

(if using speech, Press Applications Key and arrow down to Customize)

3. Select the Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar check box, and then click OK.

Hi, Carolyn. Sometimes this can be cleared up by going into your
e-mail program's encoding menu and changing how the e-mail is
decoded. Other times not much helps.

Sometimes the encoding is in Western European Windows. Sometimes it
is in Western European ISO. Sometimes it is in Unicode 7 or 8. You
just have to experiment, viewing the e-mail in various decoding
methods and see what works.

Re: Outlook 2003 attachments

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

Thanks, Harry. Yes, that was going to be my fallback plan if I couldn't find
a better way. Unfortunately, the client I'm working with is not very adept
with computer technology. Saving attachments to her Documents folder would
inevitably lead to hundreds if not thousands of files in that location, as
she is not competent enough to manage her filesystem. So, I need a simpler
solution.

Okay, I had a chance to work with Outlook 2003 today, and I did manage to
find a direct way to access and open attachments. Here's what I do:
1. INSERT+A to move focus to and select the first attachment.
2. To open the selected attachment, hit context menu key and select open.
3. If I want a different attachment, use CTRL + right or left arrow to move
between and select different attachments. Open the desired attachment as
described in step 2.

It seems odd to me that I need to use CTRL + right or left arrow to move
between the attachments, but that's what works.

The good news about this method is that it doesn't involve complexities like
the JAWS cursor, or having to invoke a double click. These are tasks that
are beyond the comprehension of my client.

Thanks, everyone, for your tips and suggestions.
-Paul

Another possible way. I did this yesterday. Opened a 245 page PDF. Then
I
selected all using control-A. Then copied and pasted directly into a
blank

opens
in Word remarkably fast and reads very well. It might be searchable.
Hope
this helps.

If you have JAWS 16, have it convert the document for you. Press
insert-spacebar, then the letter o for optical character recognition,
then d for document, and let it run. When JAWS has finished, the
document is not only readable, but it can be copied and saved into
another form, such as Word or text.

good luck!

However JAWS just read "graphic" Graphic" and gave me some numbers of the
graphics. I'm wondering what is happening here, does anyone have any
ideas?
Thanks!

That's not going to work in this case, because all she is getting in the document are graphics. She may need to convert the document with OCR software such as OpenBook. she can also use the services of RoboBraille if she can upload the document.

in Word remarkably fast and reads very well. It might be searchable. Hope
this helps.

If you change that setting, you do not even have to turn off the virtual

Its not just the virtual cursor. In the latest jaws 16 you must also
turn a setting in the jaws quick settings for this to work. Its called
"allow application reserved keystroaks". If that is check, then those
keys will work, if its not checked, then jaws will behave as normal
with the quick key features.

I use the shortcut keys mentioned in this article all the time. They are
especially useful since FS has made them usable in JAWS 16 without turning
off the virtual cursor. I navigate Facebook quite effortlessly now. I don't
mean the mobile site either. There's a really good webinar archive on the
freedom Scientific webpage for JAWS users. I hope more people will take
advantage of the accessibility we have.

I will say only that navigating Facebook on my desktop PC is so frustrating
and time consuming that I never visit my Facebook page. I will certainly
study the information in Carolyn's post to see if it simplifies navigation.
If so, I might Facebook; if not, I will not.

Daniel
