Hi want to find out if it's possible to install windows 7 without
sighted assistance? Can you switch on narrator or something with some
keystroke?

I just finished listening to the podcast about 13. It looks good and it seen
that they are working on making it much better. I like the OCR feature. I
will let us see what is there in a picture with text. If you get a web page
that has graphic with text and jaws can not read it because is not text but
a picture of text the OCR will read it to you.

Dorothy,
Regarding JAWS for Windows and other programs from Freedom Scientific, a license transfer fee must be paid to transfer a license from one person to another. I paid such a fee this spring to get Open Book from someone who was no longer using it.

This isn't exactly an appropriate question for the JAWS list. You may want
to consider taking it to a more generalized technology list. For example,
the blindtech list.

Hi all,

Accessing Skype through the windows system tray is sufficiently decent for me. However I could not find out how to remove the Skype from the taskbar. There, it is a little annoying specially when Alt tabbing among several applications. Any tip is greatly appreciated!

Another issue: how can I get rid of the opening of the Skype home window which is opened at the Skype start up?

Cheers,

Re: dictionary?

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Daniel:
If you play with it for a while and realize how it formats things, www.dictionary.com isn't bad. There is both a dictionary and a thesaurus. The dictionary is way better than the dictionary available with Research It.
A few hints:
1. Use the JAWS bookmark feature to identify important links you will use frequently.
2. Remember that, despite the availability of the search box, skip it initially and hit either Dictionary or Thesaurus first. Then, fill in the word in the edit box.
3. The results you are looking for will be in a table, so hit "t" after you've run the search.
4. The search button is the first button after the edit box. It isn't labeled.
Keep these in mind, and you'll do fine. It is a very powerful product (and it is free). There is just lots of clutter.

So, can someone clear something up for me, before sending me to
the fs
site or emailing them.
How much would it cost to upgrade to 13 alone and also how much
would
it cost to get 13 plus the SMA?
Thanks for the clarification.

Did you get it installed and then read its help screen with

How does Webvisum accomplish it then? I guess they can't

information, or the spammers will use it. I'd love to know though
because it works about 90% of the time for me.

I read about the new OCR feature in JAWS 13 that will
supposedly
convert text contained within unlabeled web page graphics into
speech. I'm wondering whether this OCR function will be
able to
solve image captchas. If so, it would really be a significant
improvement. Any thoughts?

No, Jaws 13 is not out yet. If you want to know for sure
when it
gets released, check the Freedom Scientific Website on a

Perhaps subscribe to their rss feed.

Daniel,

Not sure, but there's always the good old spell check application for when
you're writing a message or a document. Like "accesable " is not in the
dictionary.

Does anyone know if there are any dictionary programs accesable with jaws.
I'll probably be needing one for my English class this year. \
