Re: help with Google Docs

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

Hm. I downloaded the MS Windows Google Docs app, and that lets me view my
Google Docs directory as if it were a part of the Windows filesystem (that
is, I can access Google Docs files using Windows Explorer).

But I've never had anyone share a doc with me using Google Docs, so I'm not
sure how shared docs would show up using this interface. But if you could
get this to work, then accessing the shared doc would be a no-brainer.

Hello Lauren,
With track changes on as Tim advises navigate to the revision, and when the cursor is on the change, press the applications key, and arrow down to accept or reject.

Hello Lauren,

AT least up through Word 2010, an easy way to display a clean version is an
old Word keyboard shortcut,
control plus shift plus the letter e. Depending on your JAWS verbosity
setting, JAWS will respond with "track changes on" or "track changes off",
or just "on" and "off". This command does not actually accept track
changes, it simply imbeds the track changes so you see just the text of the
document as it currently is. Very handy.

I do not remember how to accept track changes, but assume someone else on
this list does.

figure out how to accept those changes so they become a seamless part of the
document?

I have very limited personal experience with Google Docs, but based on what
I've heard and read, NVDA is the best Windows screen reader for accessing
Google apps. Also, Firefox is the recommended browser. I hope this helps.

virus protection, sound and video editing

Deidre Muccio <deimucc@...>

Hello,
I will have a new computer set up soon. I will be running Windows 8.1, with
16 ggs RAM and a lot of storage space. I'll update to J16 Home.
Can anyone tell me what free virus protection should I consider using that
is accessible and would do a good job of protecting my new computer? I use
AVG on my current XP computer and though I might have some strange stuff
happen on occasion, I've never lost files or rarely have gotten mailings
from suspicious senders.

Also, I have used sound Recorder in years past to edit sound files. Is
anyone using it with J16 and Windows 8.1 and finding it easy to use?

Is anyone using a video editor that is accessible with J16? All I
would need to do is cut files up not embellish them in any way. I obviously
would need the audio to be running while I trimmed so I could know where to
trim based on that. I don't need a professional program to play with sound
quality or any of that though probably all the programs include that.

Thanks.

Deidre

Thanks, Ed. This is a 2003 document, now in My Documents on a computer with Office 2010. I did try using the Alt D, but that did not work. However for right now, the Control G and an arbitrary page number does work. Like you say, when one gets to that point, often it is hard to know the right page. Thanks.

I do not remember having this problem in Word 2003; however, I

awkward tool. I have not tried control plus f for years.
You might try this in Word 2003 too. I know this works in Word
2010. I use it 25 times a day.
Instead of using control plus f, instead use control plus h
followed immediately by alt plus d.
Type in your word, wait for the find, and hit escape (or tab to
"cancel search."
It works every time. To find subsequent occurrences, just use
shift plus F4.

Hi again, Carolyn. I just discovered something else about that issue in Word. In my version of Word, and you may also have this in your version, if you press CONTROL plus G to go to the GoTo command, there is a previous and next button in that tab sequence. If you find a next button, you can press Enter on that, and you won't need to enter a page number into the edit field. This is good if you don't know the page number you are currently on.

Re: track changes and Jaws & Word 2013

Kimber Gardner

Hi Lauren,

I've pasted below the text of a message from about a month ago on this
list. It deals with this exact question.

If after reading it you have questions about how to modify your quick
access toolbar, let me know. I received some rather good instructions
from another list member and would be glad to share them.

What follows is that post:

I cleared the quick access toolbar of its defaults, then added the following
commands:
- Previous change or comment.
- Next change or comment.
- Accept revision.
- Reject revision.
In that order, so you can execute them with alt+1, alt+2, alt+3, and alt+4
respectively.

I also customized the verbosity. INSERT+V to bring up JAWS settings in word,
search for "track changes" and crank up the verbosity. Then search for
"comments" and do the same. After this change, just arrowing to a modified
line will tell you number of revisions and comments. Arrowing into modified
or tagged text will tell you date of change, who the author was, etc. Very
useful.

I also use INSERT+V to change the verbosity of how JAWS reads punctuation.
When dealing with track changes, you really want this set to "all", in my
opinion.

Another way to jump around is to turn on quick nav keys with INSERT+Z. Then
"r" moves to next revision, and "n" moves to next comment. But, in my
experience, it's easy to forget that quick nav is off, and you end up
inserting a bunch of "r" and "n" characters all over the place. Beware.

Even if you can move to revisions, determining exactly what the change was
is rather a complex task. When JAWS tells you "paragraph style changed", for
example, you're left scratching your head as to exactly what was changed.
Okay, to be fair, a sighted user has the same problem.

I may have missed some things, but that's the bulk of how I do track
changes. And I just discussed this about a week ago in this very list, so
you might look back and check for posts in that thread. It might contain
info that I failed to mention in this message.

Subject: Re: Help please with search in word document.

OK, Carolyn. I found a way around the problem, but it is a bit circuitous. What I had to do is:

1. Press ALT plus E for Edit.
2. Arrow up to the "Go To" command and click it with Enter.
3. It will ask for a page to go to.
4. Tab to the edit field and enter a page number.
5. Tab to the "Go To" button and press Enter.
6. Tab to the Close button and press Enter.

Now when you press Control PageDown, it won't say "Previous Occurrence" and "Next Occurrence" after searching for a word. The problem is that if you search for another word in the document, you will need to repeat these same steps again.

Sorry this was so complicated.

Whenever I press Control F in a word document, it takes me to the word. My problem is getting out of the thing. If I go to the next page, it will say next occurrence or the previous page, previous occurrence. I've tabbed and arrowed and hit Escape. Can't figure out why it won't go away. Thanks.

That is what I have had to do too and thankful it didn't stay like that. I have a book of poems, and pages are important there.

I've had this same glitch in Word for years, and it happens whether I use Control plus F or if I use JAWS KEY plus CONTROL plus F. I'd be interested in a solution, too. The only way I have been able to stop this is to close Word, and go back into the document.

If you are still in the document try using page up or down, or con page up
or down.

Hello Carolyn,
I just tried it, and escape worked fine. Curious, but not much help, smile.
Cheers Kevin.
