Which FTP Clients and FTP Server programs, are accessible using screen-readers, such as JAWS?

Dave Durber

Hello everyone:

Now that the latest version of FTP Voyager is difficult or impossible to use with a Screen-Reader, what FTP client programs (free, public domain or paid), are fellow list members using instead.

In addition, if there are list members who are hosting an FTP site, which FTP server program are you using?

Thank you in anticipation.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Multiple Instances of JAWS

Ed Marquette <marquette.ed@...>

It may very well be senility creeping in, but I thought, but
cannot now find, the explanation for why, on some occasions,
multiple instances of JAWS will appear in the System Tray or on
the Task Bar.

I cannot identify any specific pernicious effects, and when I
close JAWS, all instances of JAWS disappear.

Still, having the computer confused into thinking there are
multiple instances of JAWS cannot be a good thing.

Does anyone know what this is all about, or can you point me in
the right direction in the archives for this list, assuming I
didn't just dream up prior discussion of this issue?

Thanks!

Don't forget that Ctrl Alt J will work only if you first set it up on your
machine; it is not enabled by default when you install JAWS.

For one thing, with many computers, the JAWS command to come on is Control
Alt J. If you'll -
1 hit Insert J;
2. the first thing will be Options;
3. Arrow down to the next, Basics;
4. Enter on Basics;
5. Tab, and I think the second one will give you the choice to check "start

Mirror display driver not installed correctly

Robert Cole

Hi,
I reset Windows 7 PC to factory settings.
jaws 14 will not install display driver, I did a repair on j14 and installed j15 with no luck.
I even installed jaws 16. and get the same message after Jaws starts.
Mirror display driver not installed correctly
reboot your PC if you continue to get this message, run a repair on Jaws....
the video intercept manager option in the jaws utility menu is not available.
How do I fix this?

Re: Outlook 2010 searching by subject

Cristóbal

I always use the control+E command to bring up the search field and then
paste the copied text I’m looking for. Be it the subject line for a thread,
mailing list header, an individual's email address or a person's signature
line then press enter.
This works for me the best without having to invoke so many keystroke
commands or going through the advanced search function which I also find to
be more tedious when I just want to find messages related to a specific
text.

The start up wizard for checking the state of JAWS at start up is under the
help menu when you press insert j.
Sometimes you need to reset the hotkey control plus alt plus j to restart
JAWS after a shut down.
Another way I use to start up JAWS is to press the windows key plus m
several times to make sure I get to the desktop. Then I just press the
letter j for jaws and Jaws starts up in a bit.

As far as I know, there is no way to set a webmail service as the default
e-mail account. However, you can always configure your Gmail account in an
e-mail client, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Windows Live Mail, and then,
from within your chosen e-mail client, set it as the default account.

typed because the star symbols appear on the screen & pressing Enter after
typing the password performs as expected.

I am using JAWS 16 on a computer running Windows 7 OS.

Kindly inform me how I can get JAWS to speak again when typing passwords.

making my g-mail account (web-mail), the default e-mail

Ryan Coverdell

On my desktop pc, whenEver I want to send some one an attachment my
computer always connects with my centurytel (now centurylink), e-mail
on my windows mail account. How do you change, in the desktop pc, the
settings so I can send attachments and even e-mails to third parties
using web-mail, specifically my g-mail account? I want this to be my
default mail my computer "knows," to always select. Please send me
jaws specific commands. I know google always says something about
scrubbing attachments. I can't have this happen when I want to send
something to people. Maybe I could practice on one of you off-list
using my desktop pc to make sure what you tell me works. Thanks
in advance, Ryan

Press control-shift-f. the edit field that comes up immediately is the one for subject.

Wait until JAWS verbalizes "Find now," then press F6 to go into the list of relevant messages.

since I'm not familiar with using Outlook 2010, how do you search
through a ton of emails by the subject?
I am trying to help a friend.
thru Google, I found alt j, s, b? but I don't think this is right or if
there's something else she's got to do before attempting the search.

Alt v, then a, then b, then j.

To get back to date, it's alt, v, a, b, d.

I usually first get to subject heading I want to find, then apply the command

Hello.

Make sure that your speech echo is said to either characters or characters and words while in the application such as Internet Explorer. You can change your a co-settings by pressing JAWS key+2 on the number row.

Possibly that is what has happened. But I am unable to find that setting
again to reverse it.

Perhaps there's a JAWS setting that controls speech output in password
fields which you changed inadvertently?

I also used to hear the stars until a week ago. But something seems to have
been changed during the week. Even a system restore has not sorted out the
problem.

Subject: JAWS stays silent when typing passwords in Internet Explorer

Dear List friends,

I have been facing a strange problem during the past couple of days & don’t
know if it is JAWS-related.

Previously, JAWS used to say “star, star” when I typed passwords in Internet
Explorer. But now JAWS stays silent. I know that the password is getting
typed because the star symbols appear on the screen & pressing Enter after
typing the password performs as expected.

I am using JAWS 16 on a computer running Windows 7 OS.

Kindly inform me how I can get JAWS to speak again when typing passwords.

Thanking you all in advance for any & all assistance.

Regards
Mr. Sameer Latey,
