Um, yeah, and I even keep a copy of Outlook 2003, backing up my Thunderbird, because neither of them have ribbons.

That is very nice indeed. I don't have to tab because I have combo
boxes, but it works beautifully. We sure do have some smart people
around here. No one has ever done a really good tutorial using
Thunderbird, so I just crash around and manage OK, but sure do
appreciate tidbits like this.

Can I suggest a less drastic solution? You just might have a message or
two
that you'll wish you'd read. Instead of deleting them all with control-a,
delete, do a search for a source you'll be comfortable losing. For
example,
to bring up all the messages you got from this list, do the following:

Place focus at the message list in the inbox.

Press shift-control-f.

Tab five times to the edit field for the "to" line. Type jfw. Press enter.
This will bring up all messages sent to this list.

Eventually, JAWS will verbalize "Find now." Press F6 to go to the list of
JFW messages.

Now press control-a, then the delete key. You'll be asked to confirm, so
press enter. Press escape to get out of the dialog.

Now your inbox will be a lot lighter.

You may have another huge source of messages. Just follow this procedure,
changing only the search term.

Except sometimes a word in the subject field will be the term you need. In
that case, tab just once after pressing shift-control-f to land in that
edit
field. If you want to search for a word in the "From" field, tab three
times
after pressing control-shift-f.

I hope this approach gives you a little more peace of mind. I'd hate to
miss
that one important or touching message someone sent.

I select All and hit Shift Control Delete, and they go completely away out of the computer, as far as I can tell - not in Deletes, not in Recycle, but gone. It will ask me if I want to permanently delete, and I enter on Yes.

Hi Tom and all.
I did play around with it and found out that you cannot use it as a media
player on your computer. The player has to be embedded into a web site. It
does not even allow someone to download the video or convert it into a file
format like mp3. The AFB site was quite deceiving. They are trying to get
a player that will work much better if it is embedded into any website, so
hopefully they will continue to develop it to be that video player that will
work on a personal computer. Take care all.

That is very nice indeed. I don't have to tab because I have combo boxes, but it works beautifully. We sure do have some smart people around here. No one has ever done a really good tutorial using Thunderbird, so I just crash around and manage OK, but sure do appreciate tidbits like this.

Can I suggest a less drastic solution? You just might have a message or two
that you'll wish you'd read. Instead of deleting them all with control-a,
delete, do a search for a source you'll be comfortable losing. For example,
to bring up all the messages you got from this list, do the following:

In
that case, tab just once after pressing shift-control-f to land in that edit
field. If you want to search for a word in the "From" field, tab three times
after pressing control-shift-f.

I hope this approach gives you a little more peace of mind. I'd hate to miss
that one important or touching message someone sent.

I have a different email program. However, you may be able to do the same thing as I do. You can do the control A to accept all then press the delete button which puts them in the trash folder. Then in the files menu there is a choice to empty trash to get rid of all.
One other way if you really want them all gone in one fell swoop is to press your control a to accept all, then press shift plus delete key to bypass trash folder.

Yes. Control-A then delete. If you have a large number of emails it might
take a few minutes to select all. Then pressing delete to delete might take
a few minutes as well.

Open Outlook, hit Control Y, hit the letter J until you get to Journal, hit
return and the message popped up to turn Journal on or off. In my case,
neither button was selected so I checked no (of course).

Tom,

I'm guessing the info I sent earlier may not be for Outlook 2010. Sorry
about that.

I found this info specifically for Outlook 2010. It tells one how to enable
Journal, but I would think following these steps may give you the Disable
option, too.

You can have Outlook 2010 create automatic journal entries for a wide range
of items, including email messages (both sent and received), task requests,
and files that you create or open in other Office system applications. In
fact, you can use automatic journaling to record activities based on any
contact, Office system document, or Outlook 2010 item that you select.
For example, suppose that you routinely exchange important email messages
with a business associate, and you want to track all exchanges for
reference. Incoming messages from this associate arrive in your Inbox. You
read them, reply to them, and then archive the incoming messages to another
folder. Now, however, your associate's messages are stored in one folder and
your replies are in another. (By default, replies are stored in the Outlook
2010 Sent Items folder.) Configuring the journal to track all your email
exchanges with your associate automatically places a record of all messages
relating to this contact (both received and sent) in one convenient
location. Instead of hunting for your response to your associate's question
from two weeks ago, you can open the journal and find the entry associated
with the message. Double-click the link embedded in the journal entry, and
Outlook 2010 takes you to the message containing your response.

Enabling the Journal

To enable the Journal look at your Mailbox Folders list and select Journal.

Figure 1: Journal on Navigation Pane

You will receive the following prompt; click Yes to enable the Journal.

Figure 2: Prompt to turn Journal on

Once you enable Journaling you will be presented with the Journal Options.
Here you are given all possible variables that can be set for the Journal.

Figure 3: Journal options

For our example we will track all file usage in Microsoft Excel.

Found this from a Google search. Hope it helps. Might depend on which
Windows version you're using.

A. The Journal function in Outlook can be used to track document changes and
openings, mail actions, meetings and task management however it can take up
a large amount of space if not archived regularly.

If you don't want the features of the Journal it can be disabled as follows:

1.Start Outlook
2.Select Options from the Tools menu
3.Select the Preferences tab and click 'Journal Options'
4.Unselect all boxes and click OK
5.Click OK to the main dialog

No records will be written to the journal now.

If you want to delete all current Journal information select the Journal
branch, right click on each entry type, for example Microsoft Word, and
select Delete from the context menu.

This is also possible by directly editing the registry:
1.Start the registry editor (regedit.exe) 2.Move to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Options\Journal
3.Double click EnableJournal and change from 1 to 0 4.Click OK

Be sure that the journal item is not turned on. that one just grows and

Hello, everyone.

You may remember that, last week, I posted a quiry to the list
regarding an increasingly sluggish Windows 7 desktop computer with
Jaws, to the point that it became unusable.

I originally thought the problem related to some sort of a virus I had
gotten, since it seemed that something in internet explorer was
constantly running.

I think that might have been part of the problem, but after taking the
computer to a local computer repair shop, it seems that the biggest
problem is with Outlook 2010.

I am not sure how he found this out, but the computer repair person
indicated that my Outlook data file is unbelievably huge! It contains
something like 10 gigs of material, and is constantly running, and
trying
to
refresh itself.

I access both my work and personal g-mail accounts via Outlook 2010,
and am very good at deleting e-mails that are no longer of use to me.

I also periodically check my all mail folder in my personal g-mail
account to be sure that deleted e-mails are not showing up in there.

I guess my question is this: Should I totally un-install Outlook 2010,
and re-install it again? Or, is there some way I can correct this
issue with
my
currrent version of Outlook 2010?

My University currently uses Office 365, which I know contains a
version of Outlook, so I'm wondering if that might be another way to go.

The computer tech at my local computer repair shop advises me to forget
outlook, and just access my personal g-mail via the g-mail web site,
but I have not had the greatest luck navigating that web site with Jaws
14. I'm not sure if such an approach would work with my work e-mail
account either.

Any wisdom that can be shed on this issue would be appreciated.

Thank you.

When using the, Insert + 2 on the number row, keystroke to change your
typing echo settings, it will only be temporary, affecting only the
application you're currently running. For example, if you change your
typeing echo settings while in Notepad, once you exit Notepad your typing
echo settings will revert back to your default settings / Setting Center
settings.
Take care.

Ted,

You're thinking of insert-F2. I had to go through a similar process in my
mind when I read Barbara's post. She's correct.

Perhaps our confusion comes from the two related commands: insert-F2 gets
you into all the JAWS managers, while insert-6 specifically brings up the
settings center.

First time I've heard a settings center change not being permanent; it's
always worked for me. Ins-V may not be, depending upon the setting.

Insert 2 does not make it permanent.

Settings center also does it. It's the second option under User.

Unless it's different than with JAWS 13 and the other versions I've had, for
a permanent change to your screen echo, go to Insert V for JAWS Verbosity.
You'll have to arrow through a lot of other options, but when you find it,
there will be four choices - character; word; character and word; and no
echo. While in a document, hit Insert 2 on the number keys above qwerty. It
will give you the same choices.

GIFT (God is forever true),

Carolyn
