Hello people,
Sometimes Control, shift, S in word does not open up my styles dialog, and
opening a new document does not help. Except the next day I open up word
and the quick key for styles works fine.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,

AFB Accessible free Vidio Player

David Moore

Hi Tom and all.
I did play around with it and found out that you cannot use it as a
media player on your computer. The player has to be embedded into a
web site. It does not even allow someone to download the video or
convert it into a file format like mp3. The AFB site was quite
deceiving. They are trying to get a player that will work much better
if it is embedded into any website, so hopefully they will continue to
develop it to be that video player that will work on a personal
computer. Take care all.

Ted,

You're thinking of insert-F2. I had to go through a similar process in my mind when I read Barbara's post. She's correct.

Perhaps our confusion comes from the two related commands: insert-F2 gets you into all the JAWS managers, while insert-6 specifically brings up the settings center.

Unless it's different than with JAWS 13 and the other versions I've had, for a permanent change to your screen echo, go to Insert V for JAWS Verbosity.
You'll have to arrow through a lot of other options, but when you find it, there will be four choices - character; word; character and word; and no echo. While in a document, hit Insert 2 on the number keys above qwerty. It will give you the same choices.

Hello listmembers,

I'm sure this has been covered in past Digests. However, it wasn't until
recently that I started reviewing the posts more regularly with much
appreciation for a community whose collective knowledge of JAWS and its
interaction with many programs/applications is impressive.

Until my recent purchase of JFW16, I had limited access to Itunes 12. I know
that the Do It Blind site has downloadable scripts that allow greater access
with Itunes 12 and JFW15 and 16. Alternatively, are there some Hotkey
commands that have been created recently that I can use, or is purchasing
the Do It Now scripts the way to go?

I just want to be able to label tracks as I used to be able to do with
older versions of Itunes. I also want to transfer playlists from my PC to my
Iphone, without having to rely on sighted assistance for the final transfer
step in the process.

Any and all help/direction is appreciated.

Blessings to all, Justin

Re: JAWS 16 and Itunes 12.

Justin, I find iTunes to be fairly accessible without any scripts. You can
label your tracks if you wish. You will first need to highlight the track,
and then press the applications key, and arrow down until JAWS announces
"Get Info". Once this menu options, tab over until you land in the edit box
for the track name. You should be able to name the track, and change the
artist name if you need to do that. I hope this information is helpful.

Justin,

iTunes is really quite usable with jaws these days even without the
scripts. There's a good podcast on using jaws and iTunes available at
applevis. I can't recall the exact name of the podcast, but if you
poke around a bit you should find it.

Re: Pernicious PDF

Adrian Spratt

Ed,

Two thoughts, which may or may not help.

First, I am now in the habit of automatically converting every PDF file to text with OmniPage. I don't know how this application compares to FS's Convenient OCR. I do find that it works on just about every PDF file I receive, though obviously with varying degrees of accuracy. I doubt that printing out a document, then performing OCR on it with OmniPage would improve things.

Second, yesterday I came across a program that converts JPG files to PDF that I could then convert to text. The program is NCH's Pixillion Image converter. It's worth explaining how it came to me.

I received three JPG files that I needed to access right away. I saved the first to a documents folder, then pressed the applications key and arrowed down through the options. One was simply to "convert," and I clicked on it. Almost immediately, the file was converted to PDF. Then I got a message from NCH offering to sell the non-trial version for what it claimed was a sale price. It was clever of NCH to work with MS to lure a consumer in like this. I don't like NCH's sales practices, but their software is good. So I went through with the purchase, costing about $30 US.

However you find Pixillion, it might be worth considering for handling image files.

I haven't done any more testing. It may be, for example, that Pixillion can convert directly from JPG to text. I'm also guessing that it can convert the type of PDF image file you describe to a format JAWS can handle. But I can't confirm either possibility.

I'd be interested if other JAWS users have experience with Pixillion or another JPG/image file converter.

I've used JAWS's "convenient" OCR, and it works pretty well.

I think it is using some form of the OmniPage OCR engine.

The OCR functionality, however, is powerless against what I'm
calling the Pernicious PDF.

When it opens, JAWS will read the title (the title in the
document, not the title of the file), and it may read a few other
fragments.

For the most part, however, JAWS just says "Graphic."

So far, the only way to beat this, that I've found, is to print,
scan back in, and run the OCR.

Open Outlook, hit Control Y, hit the letter J until you get to Journal, hit
return and the message popped up to turn Journal on or off. In my case,
neither button was selected so I checked no (of course).

Tom,

I'm guessing the info I sent earlier may not be for Outlook 2010. Sorry
about that.

I found this info specifically for Outlook 2010. It tells one how to enable
Journal, but I would think following these steps may give you the Disable
option, too.

You can have Outlook 2010 create automatic journal entries for a wide range
of items, including email messages (both sent and received), task requests,
and files that you create or open in other Office system applications. In
fact, you can use automatic journaling to record activities based on any
contact, Office system document, or Outlook 2010 item that you select.
For example, suppose that you routinely exchange important email messages
with a business associate, and you want to track all exchanges for
reference. Incoming messages from this associate arrive in your Inbox. You
read them, reply to them, and then archive the incoming messages to another
folder. Now, however, your associate's messages are stored in one folder and
your replies are in another. (By default, replies are stored in the Outlook
2010 Sent Items folder.) Configuring the journal to track all your email
exchanges with your associate automatically places a record of all messages
relating to this contact (both received and sent) in one convenient
location. Instead of hunting for your response to your associate's question
from two weeks ago, you can open the journal and find the entry associated
with the message. Double-click the link embedded in the journal entry, and
Outlook 2010 takes you to the message containing your response.

Enabling the Journal

To enable the Journal look at your Mailbox Folders list and select Journal.

Figure 1: Journal on Navigation Pane

You will receive the following prompt; click Yes to enable the Journal.

Figure 2: Prompt to turn Journal on

Once you enable Journaling you will be presented with the Journal Options.
Here you are given all possible variables that can be set for the Journal.

Figure 3: Journal options

For our example we will track all file usage in Microsoft Excel.

Found this from a Google search. Hope it helps. Might depend on which
Windows version you're using.

A. The Journal function in Outlook can be used to track document changes and
openings, mail actions, meetings and task management however it can take up
a large amount of space if not archived regularly.

If you don't want the features of the Journal it can be disabled as follows:

1.Start Outlook
2.Select Options from the Tools menu
3.Select the Preferences tab and click 'Journal Options'
4.Unselect all boxes and click OK
5.Click OK to the main dialog

No records will be written to the journal now.

If you want to delete all current Journal information select the Journal
branch, right click on each entry type, for example Microsoft Word, and
select Delete from the context menu.

This is also possible by directly editing the registry:
1.Start the registry editor (regedit.exe) 2.Move to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Options\Journal
3.Double click EnableJournal and change from 1 to 0 4.Click OK

Hello, everyone.

You may remember that, last week, I posted a quiry to the list
regarding an increasingly sluggish Windows 7 desktop computer with
Jaws, to the point that it became unusable.

I originally thought the problem related to some sort of a virus I had
gotten, since it seemed that something in internet explorer was
constantly running.

I think that might have been part of the problem, but after taking the
computer to a local computer repair shop, it seems that the biggest
problem is with Outlook 2010.

I am not sure how he found this out, but the computer repair person
indicated that my Outlook data file is unbelievably huge! It contains
something like 10 gigs of material, and is constantly running, and
trying
to
refresh itself.

I access both my work and personal g-mail accounts via Outlook 2010,
and am very good at deleting e-mails that are no longer of use to me.

I also periodically check my all mail folder in my personal g-mail
account to be sure that deleted e-mails are not showing up in there.

I guess my question is this: Should I totally un-install Outlook 2010,
and re-install it again? Or, is there some way I can correct this
issue with
my
currrent version of Outlook 2010?

My University currently uses Office 365, which I know contains a
version of Outlook, so I'm wondering if that might be another way to go.

The computer tech at my local computer repair shop advises me to forget
outlook, and just access my personal g-mail via the g-mail web site,
but I have not had the greatest luck navigating that web site with Jaws
14. I'm not sure if such an approach would work with my work e-mail
account either.

Any wisdom that can be shed on this issue would be appreciated.

Thank you.

After I got that message numerous times, a bank tech support rep

access the account with IE.
However, this morning neither browser works.

Does anyone else have this experience? Any suggestions? Several
