Paul,

I believe you are correct. You cannot have both. I personally do not like
the Virtual menus, because they do not support first-letter navigation as do
standard menus. Therefore I stick to the ribbon and just learn how to use
it.

Thanks, everyone.

Now here's a slightly related question. MS has their own keyboard interface
for the ribbon UI, as in "Alt then H, O, I". But you can also turn on the
JAWS rinnon UI to make the ribbon feel more like a system of menus and
submenus. I can see how both might be useful, but they seem to be mutually
exclusive. When I turn on the JAWS ribbon UI, the MS ribbon keyboard
inbterface seems to stop working.

Does anyone know how to set up JAWS so that both the MS interface and the
JAWS interface to the ribbon UI are available? Then I could choose to use
one or the other interface, depending on which is most convenient, personal
preference, etc.

My guess is that this is simply not possible. I have to choose one or the
other.

I suppose it is. But really eight appears to be quite a dud, which is why Microsoft is reverting back to the 7-style start menu and such in W 10.

It's that, but FS also conceived of it as a training tool. Some JAWS training exercises are built around it.

Hi Keith ,

Not sure about the games in the link I sent yesterday, but there are many
multi player games that one or more people can play on the same computer.
One good website is for Jim Kitchens audio games, it contains games such as
monopoly, game of life and many more that are multi player and also some
really good fun single player games such as golf, driving games and many
more. All games are again free on his site , although all of jim kitchen's
games don't actually require jaws as they are all self-voicing using the
PC's built in voice called SAPPI 5. Below is the link to his games .

I play a lot of audio games on my PC and iPhone , everything from card
games, to golf to more complex games all really fun and totally accessible
using either jaws or my phones screen reader , would definitely recommend
trying a couple of audio games for yourself .

As for the spoonville games, I took a look at their website and they have a
section for blind games which will all either work with jaws or be
self-voicing and use the built in computer voice, also all the blind games
on the site are free too. in fact after taking a look at their website I
realised I have one of their games already .

Re: Excel shortcut for autofit?

Paul Martz <skewmatrix@...>

The common case would be to select the whole column, with ctrl + spacebar.
You could also select the current data region with ctrl + shift + 8 (in
other words, control + asterisk), in which case multiple columns would be
made to fit their contents.

If you don't select anything, then the autofit command would set the column
width based on the contents of the current cell. That's probably not the
typical case, but at least it does something that makes sense. Ha ha.

Hi Keith ,

Not sure about the games in the link I sent yesterday, but there are
many multi player games that one or more people can play on the same
computer.
One good website is for Jim Kitchens audio games, it contains games
such as monopoly, game of life and many more that are multi player and
also some really good fun single player games such as golf, driving
games and many more. All games are again free on his site , although
all of jim kitchen's games don't actually require jaws as they are all
self-voicing using the PC's built in voice called SAPPI 5. Below is
the link to his games .

Hi Carolyne ,

I play a lot of audio games on my PC and iPhone , everything from card
games, to golf to more complex games all really fun and totally
accessible
using either jaws or my phones screen reader , would definitely
recommend trying a couple of audio games for yourself .

As for the spoonville games, I took a look at their website and they
have a section for blind games which will all either work with jaws or
be self-voicing and use the built in computer voice, also all the
blind games on the site are free too. in fact after taking a look at
their website I realised I have one of their games already .

1. Press the Windows key to get to the start screen if you aren't

2. Tab once. You will land on a button that says apps.

3. Press the space bar to activate this button.

16 on the particular machine I tested on.

6. Press enter on this item, and you will find all of the things you

Re: Excel shortcut for autofit?

I have to choose one or the
other.

Re: Computer games.

they do, but they'll have to be installed into the program files x86 folder if the operating system is 64 bit. and the individual games have to be installed after the winkit (gamemenu) gets installed. also, when installing the individual games, find the exe file, hit the apps key and "run as administrator".

Hi Carolyne ,

I play a lot of audio games on my PC and iPhone , everything from card
games, to golf to more complex games all really fun and totally accessible
using either jaws or my phones screen reader , would definitely recommend
trying a couple of audio games for yourself .

As for the spoonville games, I took a look at their website and they have a
section for blind games which will all either work with jaws or be
self-voicing and use the built in computer voice, also all the blind games
on the site are free too. in fact after taking a look at their website I
realised I have one of their games already .

Below is the direct link to the blind games part of the spoonville website

Thank you. I haven't played games on the computer, think I might enjoy it
and will save your link. This was what I found on Google, but you may have

Hi,

I play lots of audio computer games, I'm not sure which web site you
mean as I googled it and couldn't find it. Below is a link to a
website that lists most audio computer games so they should all work
with jaws and if not they just use the windows built in voice (which
is called sappy instead of jaws). If you forward me the link I will
take a look and let you know if the games work with jaws. If you have
any questions about the audio games website below feel free to ask

Re: getting audio to play on default player

I took my first look at the brand new one last night, and still can't find the resume feature, a key reason for upgrading. If I can get my hands on a manual, it could really help.

OMG! That ALT key makes all the difference. Many thanks. Keith

VLC is quite accessible, but you have to know how to start it. Use either the Alt key or the right mouse button to bring up an elegant menu structure.

Thanks. This didn't seem to work, but it's been a very long day for me, so I'm going to pack it in for now and try this again tomorrow. Many thanks to all for your help.

The other thing I found out today is there is no Windows Media Player on this HP running Windows 7 64-bit. Only Quicktime Mediat Player and VLC Media Player. The VLC Media Player doesn't seem to be screenreader accessible. I tried downloading WMP but was told on the Microsoft site that, for some reason, WMP couldn't be installed on this computer. Hmmmmm. I think I have my work cut out for me.

Best to all, Keith

JAWS key plus Z. Don't forget to press JAWS key plus Z to turn it back on when you're done, as you won't otherwise be able to navigate the page.

Thanks. This is worth a try. How do I turn off the virtual cursor? Keith

I have seen this too. Most of the time, unfortunately, the audio/video is a flash movie, so I don't think you can actually open it in a separate window with a media playback program on your computer. You may, however, be able to interact with the web player by turning off the virtual cursor and tabbing into the web player. At that point, you may be able to play/pause the audio/video with the spacebar, as well as use the arrow keys to rewind, fast forward, and adjust the volume. Good luck!

I know exactly what Keith is talking about. Many times, I will get on ESPN or many other sites, and the video or audio will begin playing.
It seems to be a player that is a part of the website itself. How do you get this audio or video material to play in Windows Media Player, for example. On ESPN and other sites, it just starts playing, and I cannot control it at all. I can't play, pause, or anything like that.
What do you do about this to either be able to control what you are hearing in that website or to be able to over-ride that and get it to play on your default player on the computer? Thanks a lot. Thanks Keith for bringing this up! I better say this LOL, I am using Windows 8.1, JAWS 16, and I am using an Asus laptop 64 bit lol!
