Re: Jaws 13 out next week
How would that be an ideal world? People already say JAWS is too bloted. That'd just give them more reason to say so.

Re: Why do people have so many problems unsubscribing on this list?
Brandon Keith (Biggs) <brandonboy13@...>
Exactly! My key stroke command is about as ridiculous as the hundreds of "Please unsubscribe me!" emails I've gotten from this one list. And that Google search idea sounds like what I need! LOL It might not be so far fetched as it seems... We'll just use ctrl+shift+u+n+6+home+escape as our new "Unsubscribe command. That should keep people quiet :)... Brandon, sorry but your unsubscribe key command idea is rediculous. I hope you were kidding! *LOL* If that was your intent, great; really funny post! While we're at it, let's add a function that, every time it senses someone typing the phrase "How do I". Once detected, the Jaws voice could then pipe up and say "did you check online help and the web first?"
OH, and of course we need a single keystroke to fire up google and somehow read your mind and determine what you are trying to find out, type it into the Google search box, and then take you to the best search result, all automatically. Of course, such a mind reading function would have to filter out all the "oh god please don't punish me, you are all wondrous and knowing", and "oh dear, how many calories are in this?" and other such mental musings.
People just need to either 1. make a note of how they joined the list in the first place, or 2. keep the instructional email sent to them when they joined, or 3. read the bottom of every freaking post to the list and follow the link.
If you can operate a keyboard, surely you can engage your brain enough to do one of those things.
It amuses me that most of these "you must unsubscribe me now or else" tantroms come from people in the USA, where being able to look after oneself is a prised political principle. Get the government out of my life, but oh, if only they could unsubscribe me from the list...
That initial email from the list when you join usually contains a phrase like "keep this in a safe place, it's important! You may wish to refer to it later!" I guess nobody actually does that.
Chris

Re: Research It and NFL NCAA scores
Hi Chris, I'm quite familiar with the quick navigation keys and use them all the time. My question was really about those desktop gadgets; I understand that they can get you weather info, sports, news of various sorts, and so on. Further, I was wondering whether they are prone to the same kinds of problems as ResearchIt?

Hello there;
Here's a message received from freedom scientific regarding research it,
On Behalf Of Eric Damery Sent: Wednesday, June 29, 2011 1:38 PM
Greetings all,
Nobody is more disappointed to have lost the MLB option in Research It more than I am. Especially when you consider the tight race in the American League East where my Sox are doing battle once again with the Yanks and the Rays. Anyway, here is the scoop on what has happened. About a week or 10 days ago, ESPN made modifications to how they expose sports results in an effort to block many different products that had been tapping into ESPN to get the info in real time and display it. We believe this was done in an effort to get more organizations to purchase access to the data and prevent anyone from getting it otherwise. This will not only impact MLB on Research It, but all of the sports.
We have been investigating the MLB site itself and many other places like YAHOO but so far, have not found any site that exposes the information away that will work. We are also reaching out to ESPN and trying to explain who we are and what we are doing in order to see if we can get them to work with us. If any of you who use Research It to get access to daily scores would be willing, please write to them at: https://r.espn.go.com/members/contact/index
Please be polite and remember, they are not targeting JAWS and Research It when they make these changes. It would be helpful to explain to them how beneficial it has been to use Research It in order to get the scores and schedules without having to weed through all the extra information presented on very busy web pages. I'm sure that together, we can all work this out and FS will get this fixed and working again as quickly as possible.

Re: Research It and NFL NCAA scores
Chris Smart <csmart8@...>
I must add that I share your frustration. It would be nice if we could visually skim a screen of information, using nothing more than its layout to help us find what we are looking for. That would be so nice! I probably come across a situation every single day where a sighted person could accomplish the task more quickly, simply with a noncommittal glance and a few clicks. It bugs me that most sighted folks know very little about their computers, what the various screen elements are called, and yet, they can get along just fine in most situations.
For better or worse, we just have to learn a little more about how our computers operate to get things done quickly and efficiently. It sucks, but there it is.

Nononono, what we definitely do not need is more hand holding! Give people a single keystroke, and then it'll be "but my keyboard is different. where do I find this keystroke?"

I don't see the same problems with sighted people, users of Window Eyes, NVDA or even the silly screen readers Google and Microsoft try to put out. If FS cared they would take a look at what separates Jaws users from the rest of the community. Obviously Unsubscribing from this list is something many users have a problem with. I just want these dumb Unsubscribe emails to stop! Because Jaws users are, I'm pretty sure, able to hit a key stroke, I believe that a simple script to click on this link and hit the unsubscribe button would solve the problem admirably. Thanks,

I never said FS had anything to do with people not being able to unsubscribe. I was just saying that it appears that only Jaws users have problems unsubscribing from their mailing list. So it might be in FS's best interest to take a closer look at this problem and come up with a solution. Because obviously something is wrong between the Jaws user and the JFW Mailing list. This unsubscribing problem is not on any other list I'm on, but it is huge on this list. Thanks,

Re: Why do people have so many problems unsubscribing on this list?
Chris Smart <csmart8@...>
Chris

Oh,
Not special. The Cobra screenreader has it already for 1,5 years. Basicly the screenreader has to include it as a childprogram or submodule, so every screenreader can have it.
My humble opinion.

Re: Why do people have so many problems unsubscribing on this list?
Brandon Keith (Biggs) <brandonboy13@...>
Because Jaws users are the only ones who have the problem.
