Re: logos bible software

Brian Howerton <bshowerton1@...>

Hello Sharon,

I would like to know about resources for learning Greek in braille. I have
tried to read a few resources, but learning the code in braille seems
overwhelming, but I really want to teach myself how to do it. My email is:

Bshowerton1@gmail.com

Thanks,

Brian

Hi,

The software that Sharon recommended will get you started. From the
perspective of a seminary student you will not find everything that Logos
would have given you but it will definitely get you started and if you don't
know how to read enough braille to do the Greek and Hebrew texts that they
send along with their CD I suggest that you begin learning. It is a very
necessary skill if youwant to do serious bible Study using jaws. It was a
big blow to my ego and foolish pride to admit that I could no longer use all
of my resources and order the CD that they provide but I decided if I wanted
to use my Seminary education and begin teaching again I needed to take the
step and admit that I needed the necessary tools. I am now taking my Braille
all over again with Pinellas county Lighthouse for the blind and Hadley
school for the blind and I am using the Cd which was provided for use from
Optasia Ministries and jaws.

Re: logos bible software

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Optasia is usable, but has its drawbacks. I recently acquired the New American, only to find it was missing six books--every book with only one chapter, along with the book of Acts. This would suggest an indexing problem, in that each of these books, in its own way, differed from the norm. Acts is the only book to begin with a, and the single-chapter books would seem to explain themselves. I don't know if this is common to all translations, both Catholic and Protestant, but it's worth noting. For heaven's sake, is there anyone out there willing to sell a study bible straight up, without a lot of fuss and bother. Thus far, Optasia is the closest I've found.

The short answer is No! Logos three was the last really accessible version.
I have Logos 4 Platinum with something like 2100 or 2200 books in my library and can no longer use it now that I have recently lost the pretty much the remainder of my vision. I still use magic a little but Logos doesn't work with the latest version of either Magic or Jaws. I graduated from both Bible college and Seminary and am still hoping to one day be able to use current versions of both Logos and jaws to once again take advantage of most if not all of my resources. I realize I may never again be able to use my Greek, Hebrew, and Cuneiform language studies to the fullest again since I can no longer sight translate the BHS, or any of my Greek or akkadian texts but I still have a great many English texts that I would like to use and begin teaching again.

That is probably it. I am experiencing the same problem on my desktop and
laptop, both of which run Windows 8.1. Since Windows 8.1 is fully
integrated with One Drive, the files update at startup. For that reason,
whenever I'm not in a hurry, I wait a few minutes for Windows to complete
all its startup processes, and then everything works fine. I hope this
helps.

jaws documentation

Robert Logue

I often find it hard to get help on things in Jaws. I usually search by keywords but don't get anything.

I happened to be looking for help on restarting Jaws when it gets stuck. Couldn't find a thing.

In the mean time. I think I found out of date info.

Script Utility Mode (INSERT+WINDOWS Key+NUN PAD MINUS) found in help

OK. I found something I was looking for under what's new in help/Jaws:
Improved JAWS Recovery
If a problem with an application causes JAWS to become unresponsive and the JAWS process has not resumed after approximately 15 seconds, JAWS will automatically restart after approximately 30 seconds.
Last updated on November 21, 2014
But where is the keystroke to manually restart when unresponsive?

Re: Jaws stops talking

Robert Logue

Me too. It seems to method of restarting Jaws and sending a crash report isn't working at this time either.

I heard about a new feature that Jaws is supposed to restart automatically without even using the keystroke. Where is that documentation?

Oops! I just sent a crash report while trying to remember the keystrokes. The keystroke gets passed through even when keyboard help is on.

What do I look for in the new search for Jaws commands feature to find the keystrokes for restarting Jaws?

Hi folks:

I'm having a problem with Jaws 16. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. While
I'm on the computer doing certain things like listening to a movie on
Netflix or checking mail, Jaws goes silent. The only way I can get it
to talk again is to go to the desktop and re initialize Jaws from

anybody else is having this issue. Does anybody have a solution to this
issue?
Thanks

flash player with jaws

dreamy.eyes.ten@...

Hi Guys.

Jaws is very, shall we say, temperamental with flash players on websites.
are there tricks and tips to use? Pressing enter or space, only ever seem to work with the play button, but how would one change volume, or rewind or forward something?
This particular player has a scrub bar and a popout player, terms new to me, but merely pressing enter does not activate them.

would appreciate some tricks to use with flash players.
Cheers.

Re: Viewing e-mails in browser with Outlook

Bill,

Press alt-h, then a, then v.

For anyone wondering why reading an Outlook message with a browser makes a difference, I use this method to read complex emails containing lots of links. I find JAWS gets progressively slower as I go through such an email when I don't read it in IE. Also, clicking on links goes more smoothly.

Problem is: I am looking for the way to read messages in Internet Explorer through Outlook. When you open your inbox and proceed to read your messages, you are reading them with Outlook, not with your browser.

Hi,
I presume we are talking about MS outlook and *NOT* Outlook Express or
some other Microbloat alternative for email.
As was just said I simply go to the In-Box and start reading my
incoming messages.
I also have the junk folder turned off as Outlook sometimes got real
confused as to what was "junk" mail.
Cy.

It might be the way my computer is set but I go to Outlook and proceed
to read my messages.

How does one view an e-mail message in the browser with Outlook?
Google says to go to the Actions tab, then the Other Actions tab, and
select view message in Browser. Is there a shortcut for this with JAWS
in Outlook?

Thank you.
