Subject: Trouble with tables

I am having trouble with the table commands in JAWS. I am using JAWS on
this page:

http://www.freedomscientific.com/Training/Surfs-Up/Table_Reading_Commands.ht
m

using IE 11 and JAWS 16. Some of the commands listed on that page do not
work properly on the table on the page that lists the "Table Layer Reading
Commands". Here are the steps I am taking:

1) Start JAWS and go to that page.
2) Hit Insert + spacebar, followed by T to get into table layer mode. When
I do that I heard "table layer", which is reassuring.
3) Hit T to go the "table layer reading commands table".
4) Try to use the arrow keys (down arrow) to move down the first column.
Instead it takes me sequentially through the cells row by row.
5) After hitting three down-arrows, I tried to use shift+up arrow to read
the current row. Instead, it selected the text in the previous cell and
read that.
6) Tried to use "Numpad 5" to say the current cell, and I heard "space".
That was with numlock off. When I put numlock on, I just heard "five". I
was
expecting it to read the content of the current cell.
7) Tried to use "Windows + period" from the "Classic Table Reading
Commands"
section in that page, which is supposed to be "current column".
I was hoping it would read the current column, but instead all I heard was
"windows period".

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks,

Loreal Lavigna <Llavigna2@...>

I've noticed this as well too. Hopefully this can get fixed soon!!! But
for now, I'll just merge everything with google and play it off my tablet or
phone with google play music and connect it all to the 1200 wat speakers I
have connected to my stereo system for the present time being. If I have to
use iTunes I'll either use narrator on my Win7 machine or download NVDA if
necessary. Don't think I'm going back to Window Eyes just yet. I tried
updating to the new version, 9, a few weeks back and was unfortunately
deluged with numerous corrupted files.

Dear Joe and All,

I am experiencing the same problems you are as a result of updating to
iTunes 12.1. In addition, as I navigate through the list of artists/albums,
JAWS simply announces "unlabeled," making this task impossible. Based on
these observations and posts found on AppleVis forums, I must say that
iTunes has become unusable with JAWS, at least when it comes to navigating
the iTunes library; I haven't tested the new version with the iTunes store.
What scares me even more, though, is that WindowEyes users are complaining
about the update as well, given that, as you may recall, GW Micro's screen
reader was the first to support iTunes for Windows, and that even after
support was extended to JAWS and NVDA, Apple continued to recommend
WindowEyes for blind users accessing iTunes with a pc.

With that in mind, we JAWS users need to act! As soon as I send this
message, I will call Apple's accessibility line, and I strongly advise you
to do the same. Apple obviously needs to hear from us, and the more
complaints the company gets, the more likely it is to address this issue.
The toll-free phone number for the helpline that serves customers who use
assistive technology is (877) 204-3930.

In the meantime, consider exploring the following options:
1. Fortunately, iTunes 12.1 still works quite well with Nonvisual Desktop
Access (NVDA), a free, open-source screen reader that, at times, is capable
of reading things neither JAWS nor WindowEyes can handle.
2. If you don't want to try NVDA, consider downloading and installing the
BlindTunes JAWS scripts. If you choose to do this, please keep in mind,
however, that these scripts were written for iTunes 11, so they may or may
not continue to work as expected, or at all.
3. Finally, if you don't like either option, ask Apple if they can help you
go back to a previous version of iTunes. They may be able to do this for
you if you can explain your situation to them.

Good Luck!

Michal

UVI Workstation

Annabelle Susan Morison

Hi, it's Annabelle.
I wonder if any of you fellow JAWS members have a solution to this scenario.
I have the UVI Workstation, a music software that's a VST Plugin. However, I
haven't had much luck when it comes to accessibility within Sonar. I wonder
if there's a way to make this accessible? I have Caketalking, but even that
can't recognize most of the parameters within the main window of UVI.

3, use arrow key and choose the voice profile,
now tab make sure you hear, default,
now tab enter on okay.

hope this helps.

Dave, I honestly don't know. It's not available in stores or anything to
my knowledge. The IRS purchases licenses for its volunteer sites, of which
I operate two.

Approximately how much does TaxWise cost?

Very interesting. Is FreeTaxUSA interview based or forms based? Do they
charge for state returns? MyFreeTaxes.com is strictly interview based;
the only forms you see are things like the W-2. That goes for the free
state returns as well. The professional software we use at work is
heavily dependent on forms and schedules with limited question and
answer interaction. Fortunately they've made huge improvements in the
latter this year, particularly for JAWS users. For consumers I really
love the new look of MyFreeTaxes this year, but for tax pros, not having
access to the forms can make us a little crazy, so we use Taxwise in the
professional arena.

Thanks,
Brad

The price is terrific, and I did both a federal and state return for
both
myself and my daughter. Not only was the site fully accessible, I found
it easier and better organized than Tax Cut or Turbo Tax. It is
completely on line, nothing to install. I believe it is free to prepare
and file a federal return, at least up to a pretty healthy income. Just
a
suggestion, and no, I do not get a cut on folks signing up!

Re: Problem with Spanish (Spain) Eloquence Voice in JAWS 16

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Is this 16? I notice there's a new extra language setting on 16, the purpose for which is not entirely clear, but haven't had time to research it.

Subject: Problem with Spanish (Spain) Eloquence Voice in JAWS 16

Dear JAWS Users,

I am having an issue with the Spanish (Spain) eloquence voice on my desktop running Windows 8.1 and JAWS 16. When I switch to this voice, the user settings associated with the voice load and work properly, but the voice itself speaks in the language I was previously using. For instance, if I am using the English U.S. voice and I set Spanish (Spain) as my primary voice, the rate, pitch, punctuation, etc. change to match the user profile for that voice, but JAWS continues speaking in the English U.S. voice. This issue occurs regardless of how I go about switching voices, as if the voice in question were somehow corrupt.

When I reported the problem to FreedomScientific, I was told that this is a known issue with the software. However, if this were true, then I would expect to have the same issue on my laptop, given that I'm running the same operating system and the same version of JAWS, but I don't. That said, have any of you experienced this problem, and if so, were you able to resolve it successfully? If yes, I would greatly appreciate if you could tell me what you did. Thank you in advance for your responses.

Best Regards,

Michal
