Re: eharmony.com

Nicole Massey <nyyki@...>

There are some accessibility roadblocks with Chemistry too, at least there
were when I was trying it out. I have a friend who works there, and he
helped me navigate through them. He also told me that none of them were of
any real use in finding a match, they just provided a bit of entertainment
for users of the site. Once I got past the survey and the initial contact
everything worked fine, but this was at least seven and a half years ago, so
it might have changed since then. He also told me that they weren't
interested in making the site accessible, as they were considered to be
entertainment category sites, and as such they didn't fall under 805J
restrictions. I suspect this is a general ethos across the entire matching
website industry.

This is an interesting question, as I signed up earlier this year. I
tried Internet Explorer, Firefox, and the Safari browser on the Mac. I
also tried m.eharmony.com as well as the regular site. By far, I had
the best luck when I installed the IOS app and filled out the questions
there. With Jaws, I couldn't proceed very far, except for once I'd
finished the exhaustive match profile questions. Once I did this on the
app, I have been usingJaws successfully with Firefox for best results.
Daily, I still use the ap to move through matches, but when
corresponding with them, I will use the computer to fill out the
questions. I have found that once you select your five introductory
questions on the computer, it preselects them, and the app does as
well, even though all of the big list of questions is there. When I
started the service, they had someone there called Val who would go
through different parts of the site and had some experience with Jaws.
She would set up an appointment each week to help out, but maybe she
doesn't work there anymore, as I stopped hearing from her. A call to
their service is helpful if you can find their phone number. Here's the
last one I have for them.
1-800-965-7249. In the absence of sighted help, since I didn't want to
involve family in this most private of matters, the staff can go
through the site and your preferences with you. One final note is that
when I was updating my credit card info, it wasn't clear that I was
signing up for a whole year membership, and it charged the year
membership when I thought I was only updating for the monthly charge.
I'm sure they would have refunded the money had I asked, but I'm
committed to it for the year.

Can't say about the accessibility since I tried before going blind but
after spending a few hours filling out the initial questions (it is an
extremely thorough process) they informed me that I am far enough
outside their profiles that they are unable to help me. I would have
found that incredibly frustrating if I had done that after taking the
additional time that accessibility always seems to entail.

Re: YouTube navigation when video is playing, cannot make the controls work.

What I find works best is to first find the pause or mute button on the YouTube video first, before doing anything else. Then turn off the vertual cursor with JawsKey plus Z. Then the J K and L keys seem to work.

I have found that sometimes the controls don't work if you are not on one of the buttons, either pause or mute.

Matthew Bullis posted this very useful information on another list. I've confirmed his instructions work, and I thought I'd post them here.

There are keyboard shortcuts built into Youtube. If you turn off the virtual cursor, meaning you can't then use first letter navigation keys, you can then use the letters j k and l to rewind, play/pause, and fast forward. If it's Jaws, the keystroke to turn off the virtual cursor is insert Z, and again to turn it back on. However, if you're listening to a YouTube and all you really want to do is pause and get up from your seat for a break, then use the pass through key, which in Jaws is insert 3 on the number row. This lets Jaws ignore the next key press, so you could just press K to pause the video. Then when you're ready, use the pass through key again and type K to resume playing.

Tim,

Did you try the methods separately? You can't do both together. The one that works for me is the pass-through key combo followed by j, k or l.

I am asking this as I use the twitter client the qube and it uses
control windows l so that I can follow peple and now in jaws 16
control windows l brings up a language dialogue and I do not wish to
have this come up is there a way I can disable that hot key?

Re: How do I get rid of the control windows l hot key for languages

david <davidwhitehead1957@...>

hello;

give this a try;

1, insert+f2=run jaws manager.

2, press the letter k=keyboard manager press enter.
note you will land on the default.
3, tab one time your now in a list of default keystrokes,
use the keystroke, ctrl+f=find,
now type the hotkey,
windows key+ctrl key+l
tab once you will hear;
active keystroke check box checked,
tab once more,
now press enter.
you will immediately hear/see your keystroke,
something like, select windows+ctrl+l=language common.

you now can change the keystroke,
you need to press the keystroke,
alt+a=actions,
or you can go through the menu,
using the alt+a, you now arrow to the choice,
Add Keystroke... Ctrl+A
Add Gesture... Ctrl+G
Change Keystroke... Ctrl+H
Remove Keystroke Del
Find Keystroke... Ctrl+F
Find Gesture... Ctrl+Shift+F

obviously once you make the change you will need to okay it.

hope this helps.

the other thing you can do is,
if you still have jaws15 on the computer, just load when your using the
qube.

hope this helps.

I have not been able to figure out how to read tabs either. Any input from
anyone on this JAWS topic would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year to all.

Subject: Reading guitar tabs with Jaws

Hello list,

So I’m trying to figure out how to read tabs for the guitar. I’ve always
played by ear or memorization, but figured I’d finally learn tabs. Doing so
however seems a bit challenging with Jaws. I’m sure it in part has to do
with my lack of familiarity with tabs in general, but with all the E’s, b’s,
g’s and dashes and so on, it sounds like Jaws is just reading a bunch of
gibberish. Can anyone recommend a better method or tips on how to decipher
these hieroglyphics with JFW. My guitar learning was all done in Spanish. So
I’m also trying to get used to the notes in English.

Thanks,
