Jaws 12 seems a bit slow but how many programmes are running at start up,
have you tried using ms outlook? Dorothy do you have running at start.

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is any steps that should be taken to use jaws
with outlook 2010?
the reason I ask is that it runs so slow that its almost unuseable. When I
delete an email it takes like 5 seconds to read the next item.

running a new laptop that is no slouch so its not the machine.

thanks

It would be, if it had not also happened in previous versions, and it if was
a regular daily occurrence, since it generally happens maybe once every 6-8
weeks and most often when my computer is pretty busy, I don't think it is a
major problem. I have used other programs that need to be restarted almost
hourly, Jaws has never been that for me.

Well, for many of us 12 works just fine, I don't have any problems I have
not had in previous versions, namely occasionally maybe once a month or so
Jaws will go silent for no explained reason that I can find.

I'm guessing 13 will be out by the end of the year. It's up to you whether
to wait or not. You could always contact Freedom Scientific and ask if
they will honour a purchase of 12; that is, if 13 comes out right after
you buy 12, see if they'll give you the upgrade to 13 at no cost. It's
worth a try.

Hi. Nope, all I've done so far is backup my entire system onto a USB drive. However, if your system supports booting from a USB device, you can boot from it as if you are booting from the original internal drive.

IN theory, this would allow you to come up talking, and then take it from there. But, I haven't had a drive die on me so haven't had to test it out.

Hi Eric.
just type Backup into the Windows 7 search box.
As for Casper, it's made and sold by Future Systems Solutions, and you can check it out at:

Re: Bank Websites with Jaws

ohio1803@...

Hi there,

I sure hope this is JAWS related, alright.
At least I have been glad to read how each of you are finding the e-banking world using a screen reading software, in this case, and mine, Job Access With Speech, or JAWS.

I can still see the screen some, and each month for years now I've been doing my main e-banking and credit card transaction downloads and payments using IE9 and JAWS, and Quicken Deluxe 2009. I do not yet enjoy the process, but can do it. I just sigh relief and go have a plate of cookies and mile when I am finished. Highly recommended as a motivator!

For me it is a mixed bag. I sometimes do pretty well. And other times I get hung up and scared to death I am going to make a mistake.
I wish it were easier. But it is better than it was a couple years ago now. I think the screen reading software, for me latest update in JAWS 12, and the websites have improved. Quicken has not improved all that much but I can using it still pretty well with keyboard shortcuts for all the basics. I hope to get around to setting up the APH product, Money Talks, but as yet have not transitioned there.

One of the nightmares for me is that I have to really watch out because JAWS will echo something that has just passed. Or I will think I am on this or that button, only to find out by going back and forth or up and down arrow, that in fact, JAWS was NOT on the button or field that it has spoken.

It has been stated on this list that this is a known issue with JAWS. And I don't mind having to put up with it, except when it is as important as it is when doing important online functions like this!

On each of the sites that I regularly use, Chase Visa, Bank of America, American Express, and my local banking institution, I am good about half to three-quarter of the time. But when I get myself all hung up, I am glad I can still see just enough to get myself out of the jam, to sort things out. But that is not either a reliable thing as my peepers are pretty much not always able to make things out as I would like, and not for so very long as I like many others have a degenerative eye condition for which there is fix or upgrade.

I am sure you also have each noticed that it is the case where invariably you just get fairly adept and comfortable with using these websites, and they go and change the security and redesign the website with another layer you have to learn all over again. I am sure in some ways, it is very necessary to keep our accounts secure. But sometimes, the old paper checkbook and a check writing guide and a talking calculator look mighty fine again to this nervous Nellie.

Any more tips some of you may have for navigating these aforementioned types of e-banking places, I am all ears and fingers.
And good luck to you.

Thanks.
Rik

Re: recommendation for disk clone software

Unfortunately, there is no disk imaging program I am aware of that is totally JAWS accessible. One imaging program that is partially JAWS accessible is Image for Windows, which is only accessible during the backup procedure. With this and every other imaging program I have looked at, you need sighted help to restore the image from an external hard drive because there is no speech accompanying the rescue CD that all these programs require you to create. There is a series of audio tutorials on the JAWS Users audio page that explains how to use Image for Windows to back up and restore a hard drive, but some sighted assistance and/or technical expertise is required, because you have to be able to open the case of your computer to swap out the internal drive. Just this morning, I was exploring Seagate Disk Wizard, which is a free version of the highly-acclaimedAcronis TrueImage program, but it turned out to be unusable with JAWS

hello list,

Is there a simple possibly free, program to make a bootable backup of my windows hard disk.

I'm looking for a way to back up my internal disk so that in case of disaster I can restore it from a external disk and have it revert back to a earlier state.
Simple to use and Jaws friendly would be very helpful!

Anyone have any tips?

Re: recommendation for disk clone software

Gerald Levy

In XP, you can only use the built-in Windows Backup utility to back up your documents and settings. You cannot realistically use it to back up and restore an entire local hard drive because it requires booting from floppy disk, and most computers produced within the last few years no longer include built-in floppy drives. And using a program like Casper requires a fair amount of technical expertise.

Chris and others,

Do either of these or both of these create a bootable clone?

Can you give me a little more detail. is the Windows backup part of my windows 7 OS? If so where do I find it?

Is Casper something I will Google Casper but again does it make a bootable clone?

Again tips are greatly appreciated.
I have had several crashes with my system recently and am tired of getting sighted help each time JAWS stops talking. My plan would be to keep a fairly recent bootable clone to revert to when this happens.

Thanks again for tips and leads.
