Hi.
How long dos it take to start windows 7 on other i5 processors?
I found about something at least.
t is 29 secunds where it says that I should press enter to start
windows normally.
If i press there it goes 29 seconds faster.

hp prodesk 600.
It takes very long to start windows. about 2 minutes.
then another 2 minutes to get jaws running.
What can this be?
Should it not go faster than this?

First, when manipulating msconfig, be careful the changes you make
there can be longer lasting then what you wish.
If you want to speed up the load process and performance you want
only entries under the startup tab. Not all entries should be unchecked.
Things
like MS Office, your favorite media player, Adobe and such, are all
okay to uncheck.
Second, if I was looking at the right specs for your computer you
should have 4 Gigs of memory, right? This should be enough memory to
run Windows, JFW and other programs comfortably. Was the recommended
settings for appearance or performance? Always use performance
settings.
If you were to call HP, as you should have support, just let them
know that the performance seems slow. Are you running Symantec or
MacAfee products?
These are notorious as being resource hogs.
Hope this can help.

First, when manipulating msconfig, be careful the changes you make there can
be longer lasting then what you wish.
If you want to speed up the load process and performance you want only
entries under the startup tab. Not all entries should be unchecked. Things
like MS Office, your favorite media player, Adobe and such, are all okay to
uncheck.
Second, if I was looking at the right specs for your computer you should
have 4 Gigs of memory, right? This should be enough memory to run Windows,
JFW and other programs comfortably. Was the recommended settings for
appearance or performance? Always use performance settings.
If you were to call HP, as you should have support, just let them know that
the performance seems slow. Are you running Symantec or MacAfee products?
These are notorious as being resource hogs.
Hope this can help.

Here is the magic number for HP handicapped support.
HP handicap support (888) 259-5707
They will probably ask you where you got this number so just tell that it came from one of the email lists for the blind.

Unable To Update My Dictionary File: What To Do?

Kane Brolin

Recently I have re-imaged my laptop and have installed the latest
64-bit release of JAWS 15, which is titled 15.0.12085. (I am running
Windows 7 Ultimate.) But whenever I try to add a new definition to
default.jdf, the JAWS pronunciation dictionary, the following error
confronts me:

[Window Title]
JDiction MFC Application

[Main Instruction]
JDiction MFC Application has stopped working

[Content]
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will
close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

[Close program]

Is there a fix for this aside from simply upgrading to Ver. 16?

-Kane

I don't see this anywhere on my Windows 8.1 machine. Have you tried pressing
insert + escape to see if that will make JAWS read the list? Also, have you
checked your title bar when this happens? You might just be losing focus,
and an alt + tab should fix that.

Subject: Opening lists in file explorer with windows 8

I moved to windows 8 a few days ago. Some things are going smoothly,
but ... In both Documents and Dropbox, Windows 8, Jaws 15 and Jaws
16, JAWS reports "Documents message" or "dropbox, message" and does
not speak the list of documents. sometimes I can find it with the
JAWS cursor, then rout JAWS to pc and get the screen back, and
sometimes the screen just appears blank. What's happening? anybody???

Thanks,

Ann

Re: clean install of version 16

As long as you choose to keep the shaired components dearing removal
then you will be fine.

Tom, I uninstalled 14 a few weeks back. I'll probably do the same with 15

as I imagine it would trash your key.

I usually keep a few versions of Jaws on my system. I just received the
version 16 disk. I would like to un install versions 14 and 15 because my
system is becoming cluttered. Does anyone foresee any problems ahead if I do
this. Tom
