Re: Sometimes I can't get to an attachment in outlook

Bissett, Tom <tom.bissett@...>

I do not know why but I find that some attachments are where you expect and the shift tab can take you there but then there is the other ones that are embedded in the body of the email. I think these are announced as graphics but don't remember for sure. You have to go through and locate it and using right mouse click or the application key and open it.
Again I do not know why they don't attach in the same way.

To clarify Kimber's situation, in case someone sees a solution after getting more specifics, I've been corresponding off-list with her. When she shift-tabs, she goes right into the subject line. So, even though JAWS verbalizes "attachments" at the list level, it isn't finding the attachments field at all, never mind the attachments themselves.

Based on a long-ago post by Ed Marquette, I suggested searching for embedded objects with control-shift-o. However, JAWS found no objects. Ed's method, as I understood it, would convert the message to text and place the attachment where it belongs.

I can only think something in her organization's network is blocking JAWS from finding attachments, even though it does detect them.

Based on this, I hope someone has some more ideas, ideally not involving third-parties.

Most of the time I simply tab over from the subject line. The first thing you should see is Message. Cursor over and you hit the first attachment.
However, I have a colleague like the one you describe above. I had to hunt around for his attachments using the JAWS cursor. As I recall, I went to the bottom of the message and started looking from there, but there's no quick and easy way to do it. Wish I knew what makes his messages different.

Thanks for replying, Adrian. But when I shift tab in this instance, rather than taking me to the attachment area, my cursor goes to the subject line.
If I continue to shift tab I cycle through from, to, sent and the body of the message itself. I never reach that area where I expect the attachment is hiding. I can see that there is an attachment because in the message list jaws says attachment, and because my colleague tells me he has sent one.

It's a mystery that, I suspect, has something to do with how the sender attaches the attachment.

Hi All,

In my office we use Outlook 2010 as our email client. Sometimes when
colleagues send me attachments I can't get jaws to focus on the
attachment so I can act on it to either save or open or whatever. It
seems the cursor simply doesn't recognize that there's an attachment
present.

Normally, when everything is working, I can open the message then
shift tab to the attachment area, press alt and be placed in the
attachment tab. In the scenario described above, it seems there isn't
even an attachment tab to go to.

Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Thanks,

Re: secured adobe pdf files and Jaws

Hi, Jim. Try this:
To Make Adobe XI Accessible:

1. Go into preferences with control-k. JAWS lands on an item in a tree view.

If you have been here before, it will be the item you last opened. Arrow

down to Security Enhanced. Note that this is the item below "Security."

Then uncheck these two options:

Enable Protected Mode at startup

Enable Enhanced Security.

Note. When making changes in the Security Enhanced section, you will be told

that Adobe needs to be restarted, but you can wait to finish the other

changes first.

2. Launch the Edit menu, scroll down to the Accessibility submenu and open

it. Scroll down to the Set-up Assistant and press enter. The Set-Up

Assistant has five screens, but the only change you have to make is on the

last, screen 5 of 5. Go through all the screens, pressing spacebar on "Next"

in each instance, until you reach the fifth and final screen. Here, tab to

the check box labeled "Open PDF documents in the browser" and make sure it

is unchecked. It may be checked by default. Then tab to the Okay button.

Hi all,

I had a lot of hope for Jason's suggestion of using shift+f10 then H,
but alas, it didn't work. When I pressed shift+f10 there is no
attachment option in the resulting list.

Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions. I wonder if it would be
worthwhile contacting FS with this question. Thoughts?

Hello JFW users,

I hope this question isn't significantly off-topic for the mailing list. As
a newcomer to the Windows operating system, I'm seeking recommendations of
documentation that might help me to become more productive when I'm working
in MS-Windows and MS-office. In particular, I'm looking for documentation
that summarizes the features available and can be used as a reference for
the keyboard commands on offer. What I've found so far includes the JAWS
help topics, and Microsoft's tables of keyboard shortcuts for the Windows
operating system and MS-Office applications. I would be interested in
supplementing this with the ultimate reference book or books on the topic.

I'm also a heavy command line user (in every operating system that I work
with), so I'm interested in learning at least a little of the Microsoft
PowerShell, which apparently has been receiving a lot of development
attention from Microsoft as a rival to the UNIX command line environment for
purposes of system administration.

I have access to Bookshare, among other sources, as well as whatever is
available online.

Recommendations are welcome - they'll save a certain amount of trial and
error while looking for high-quality material to refer to.

That's what I do, and I seem to get most attachments most of the time.

What I have noticed, however, is that if an e-mail contains quite a few
attachments (say 5 or 6), which happens often at work, I loose Jaws focus on
the list after the first or second attachment. I then have to alt tab back
to the e-mail, hit shift tab, use my right arrow again and then wait until
the attachment list refreshes itself.

It's kind of anoying, and I haven't found a solution or work-around yet.

All I can say is wow. The UIA version of these scripts are going to be
fantastic. It opens up the doors to everything I need. It is fast too.
The legacy scripts will follow since it will take more time, but at
least for JAWS 15 and up it is going to be awesome. Still working out
issues with focus, but it appears that things will work better than any
previous blind tunes scripts. Moving columns should work out also as
well as sorting by a specific column. The interface is a little clumbsy
without scripts, but managable. I chose the jaws 15 and up first since
it will take less time to get something out there. Any wishes for the
new scripts?

All I can say is wow. The UIA version of these scripts are going to be fantastic. It opens up the doors to everything I need. It is fast too. The legacy scripts will follow since it will take more time, but at least for JAWS 15 and up it is going to be awesome. Still working out issues with focus, but it appears that things will work better than any previous blind tunes scripts. Moving columns should work out also as well as sorting by a specific column. The interface is a little clumbsy without scripts, but managable. I chose the jaws 15 and up first since it will take less time to get something out there. Any wishes for the new scripts?
Cheers,
John Martyn

Has anyone had issues pasting content into the edit box for a post? Some
times, I like to write something in word, then just paste it into the box to
post; however, lately, only the first word shows up and I was like huh?
Thoughts?

No problems here except for the word limit. And Jaws 12 handles it all well
enough too, but I'm using the mobile version.
