Re: Problem with Adobe

Ian D. Nichols

Hello,

If you have Freedom Scientific's Open Book, you should have "Freedom Import
Printer" in your list of installed printers. If you "print" the image .pdf
to that printer, it opens OpenBook and performs the OCR. You can then read
the document and save it as a text file or MS Word document, or in another
format from the Open Book list.

The OCR is not of the highest quality, but I am still using JAWS 14, and the
Open Book version 9 is now several years old. It may be good enough for
some purposes.

HTH.

These are image PDF files for which you must perform OCR, optical character
recognition. Although JAWS has a limited OCR function, you will need an OCR
program such as OmniPage or a package like Kurzweil.

Good morning,

I have received a couple files in PDF format then when I open these files it
shows 840 Kilobytes then protected view comes up, I'm sorry I think it comes
up or it's a different file, which I enable editing.

The file is empty according to what JAWS says but as previously stated it's
840 Kb in size. What gives, comments and suggestions?

Thank you,

Have a great day,

Re: Problem with Adobe

Michael Mote

If you are willing to use a JAWS Beta version, the newest of the 16 beta
allows you to perform the OCR within JAWS. To do this, press JAWS Key plus
the spacebar to enter the layer mode. Then press o for OCr, and then the
letter D for document. I've tried this with a few documents, and it seems
to work very well. Good luck!

Re: Amazon & Jaws

There was a phase when Amazon.com had this same problem, but they seem to have fixed it. It lingered for a longer time on pages where you had the option of buying a periodic subscription, but now Amazon.com has created a link that makes one-time purchases accessible even there. Perhaps Amazon.co.uk is still catching up.

Amazon, IE & Windows 8.1 with Jaws 14

Lauren

Hi:

I am trying to add a credit card to my Amazon account. It used to have combo
boxes for the expiration date, but now Jaws just reads 10 button menu for
the month and 2014 button menu for the year. I tried pressing the space bar
and enter to change these, but nothing is working.

Help please!

Yes, it looks like the check-out buttons don't work with Jaws any more. "Add
to Basket" and "One-Click Purchase" or "Proceed to Check-Out - none of them
work. Does anyone know how to report these type of issues to Amazon? I've
never been successful in finding a way before.

John

Re: Amazon & Jaws

I don't think you will have any luck with that. The first time I noticed I wasn't able to complete a purchase, I called them, and was told to use another browser. It seemed they knew nothing at all about the accessible site. Once you made your purchase, if you go to the accessible site, the purchases you made will be in your cart, and will be ready for checkout.

John:

You can send your issues to:
accessibility-feedback@amazon.com

You won't get a reply back but this is where your accessibility issues are supposed to be addressed. Good Luck.

Re: Speaking colum headers in MS Excel

Ann Byrne

For column headers, place your cursor anywhere in the row that has the headers. Now--get this keystroke!--press
insert+control+alt+c
This creates a JAWS file with the information which is associated with your spread sheet. so if you copy the spread sheet to another location you will need to perform that keystroke again.

To have JAWS speak the row headers, the keystroke is
insert+control+alt+r

Good luck!

Re: Speaking colum headers in MS Excel

Kimber Gardner

Yes, there is, but it's an excel function rather than a jaws function.
Also, it doesn't appear to work in excel 2010. What version of excel
are you using?
