Telling JAWS not to read extra symbols, like degrees?

James Homuth

I run a program that for whatever reason has a lot of extraneous symbols in
the user interface. They don't interfere with useability, except that it
takes JFW longer to actually read things to me if it has to waid through
them. Is there a way in JAWS 14 where I can tell it to ignore those? If not
for a specific program, then globally? I poked around in the graphics and
symbols part of settings, but nothing there seems to be doing what I expect
it to do. If there's a workaround, I'd love it.

readability stats

Mario

hi all, I'd like to know if there is a shortcut either in JAWS or Word 2010
that would display the readability stats for a Word 2010 document, or is
that checkbox in the proofing category the only way to get the info?

Re: Inserting Page Numbers in Word 2010

Adrian Spratt

Hi, Rick and Kevin.

These instructions are correct, but I had the kind of problems Rick is experiencing when I first tried to insert page numbers with Word 2010. JAWS isn't always our friend in this process. Here are the instructions I wrote for myself, and I hope they help. I'll also include how to suppress a page number. Note that I place page numbers at the bottom center of a page.

1. Alt-n for insert.
2. Press nu to reach page number, which may be announced as header/footer.
3. Press spacebar. The second item is bottom. Press enter.
4. The second following item centers the page number, although JAWS says "2." Press enter.
Word exits the dialog and returns me to the document.

In order to prevent the first page from being numbered:
1. go to page layout with alt-p, then page setup with sp.
2. Control-tab to layout. Press enter.
4. Tab three or four times to "different first page." Spacebar to check.
5. shift-tab five or six times to OK.

Re: FS display driver error message

You need to download the version you want to install to your desktop of the
device you wish to install to.

Then exit out of the jaws web site.

Then from the desktop install the version you downloaded.

Note; if you have the other still installed uninstall it before you in
stall the downloaded version and restart your device before you install the
downloaded version

Re: Usb Tv Tuner, SnapStream Beyond Tv, and JAWS scripts for Carbonite for Windows 7

I used to use it years ago with an analog card built into the video card of my desktop. The only way one could do much with it was from the web interface, but you could log into snapstream.net and schedule anything you want recorded, and retrieve the files in the my documents\my videos folder. I never figured out how to get the audio description recorded, if there was even any to be had back then.

My name is Jamie. Several months ago I had enquired about usb tv tuners on
this list. I'm still interested in usb tv tuners, and thought I would ask
again to see if anyone had any other suggestions. I have a Gateway laptop,
running Windows 7 Home Edition, with JAWS 14. I don't have cable, and am
wanting to hook my antenna up to my computer to watch and record local
programming. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at a Diamond
TVW750USB tuner, but it has its own software, and figured it probably
wouldn't be accessible. It would be nice to find something that would work
with Windows Media Center. I spoke with someone today and they suggested
SnapStream Beyond Tv. Does anyone know anything about that, and what tv
tuners work best with that service?

My final question has to do with Carbonite. Does anyone know where I can
get JAWS scripts for Carbonite for Windows 7. Thanks in advance for any
suggestions you may have regarding my questions.

Regards:

Jamie

Its been awhile, but I think the last USB tuner I used was made by a company
named McIntosh? The accompanying software was accessible with JAWS. I will
check on the name because I'm not sure of it.

Subject: Usb Tv Tuner, SnapStream Beyond Tv, and JAWS scripts for Carbonite
for Windows 7

Regards:

Jamie

Hi All,

Using JAWS 15, IE 11 on a Windows 7 computer. Does anyone know how to set
up Twitter to post your tweets to Face Book when you post them to Twitter?
Thanks in advance!
