JAWS 15 not reading webpages when virtual cursor is activated

Sameer

Dear List friends,

I have been facing a strange problem with JAWS 15 & Windows 7 at work & request your assistance in resolving the same.

Whenever I open any website in Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 30 or Chrome, JAWS does not read anything on the webpage. But when I turn virtual cursor off & move through the webpage by pressing Tab, JAWS reads the webpage properly.

Request your kind assistance in making JAWS read the webpage with the virtual cursor activated.

Thanking you all in advance for any & all assistance.

Regards
Mr. Sameer Latey,
Mumbai, India

The training that Freedom scientific gives for free is plenty of great information that will get one started. I can see how someone would pay to learn how to use the Microsoft office programs though. Just sounds like a lot of money for what you get on the bundle.

It seems like a lot of money for the package.

I don't know how many of you get the announcements from Freedom Scientific
about new products, but I thought the announcement of the new JAWS Training
Bundle might be of interest especially for those who need training but can't
get to a certified JAWS trainer or to a training center.

As you can see from the price list below, the training is not free. Maybe
you can get VR or some other agency to sponsor you if no other training of
this type is available in your area.

JAWS Training Bundle is provided on a 4GB SD card and is available in one of
three formats.

a.. PLEXTALK Pocket DAISY player along with training bundle SD card, $995
b.. Victor Reader Stream DAISY player along with training bundle SD card,
$995
c.. SD card only, $750
With over 50 hours of training, the cost per hour is $15.00 for quality JAWS
training done by the people who create JAWS.

Re: JAWS 15 .JCF file

Gary King

Petro,
It is safe as long as you are in the My Settings folder. If you have a .jcf file in there, it holds any settings that you have changed from the default settings. After it is deleted, you can make changes in JAWS settings while Internet Explorer is running, and another .jcf file will be created.

Hi folks! I have a flash drive with several folders and downloads of files
including JFW, Magic etc, as I use these for my work. I am having an issue
with where the flash drive shows up. It should show up as the E drive or G
drive, or something like this. Instead, I find the drive contents under a
different folder all together on my computer called Apps Fs1. It appears
that my drive has been renamed somehow. Why did this happen? Should I be
concerned about it?

Re: Need help with a flash drive.

Dave Durber

Mike:

Use Windows Explorer.

Highlight the flash drive in question.

Press ALT+ENTER, to open the properties for the flash drive.

The cursor is autimatically placed in the edit field, at the end of any text which exists in the field. In addition, by default, the text is highlighted. If you wish to delete the text in the edit field and have no label at all for the flash drive, press the DEL key and press ENTER to save the change. To change the label for the flash drive, just start typing and the original text will be deleted and replaced by the new text.

HINT: if you decide not to have a label for the flash drive or, for any USB storage media for that matter, after you open Windows Explorer, press R. JAWS should tell you that, Devices with removable storage is open, then tell you the first removable storage device which is highlighted, plus the drive letter, for example, "Removable Disk (f:).

HTH

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

they've already said accessibility will return in version 2.1. Hopefully it will. If it doesn't, then we can bother them again. (grin)

You can tell version 1.75 to not update itself, to update the database but not get program updates.

Re: Need help with a flash drive.

Not sure. Drives can have volume labels. But that doesn't sound like a label you would've given the drive. Furthermore, normally you should be able to read the drive letter (in parentheses). If you open the folder in Windows Explorer, can you find the tree view so you can follow the breadcrumbs back to the root of whatever drive it thinks you're in?

JAWS and anti-virus

Londa Peterson

I know this question gets asked often, but there's one program I don't remember seeing mentioned here. I just went to Best Buy to look at a new laptop. Actually, I'm considering the Lenovo Yoga ultra book. Best Buy gives a year subscription to either Web Root, Casparsky, or Trend micro. I know the first two are out of the question, but what about Trend Micro? Is it accessible with JAWS? I did use their free online tool once, and it seemed to work well, but I didn't want to assume based on that. I know I can always use another program like AVG, but I figured if there was something included in the price, I might as well take advantage of it if I could. Thanks for the help.

Hi All,

When I press jaws key + f11 I am getting the message "failed to obtain
list of task tray icons." It seems to be happening consistently, so
I'm curious, first if anyone has ever seen that message? Second, is
there a fix?

I am running the most recent release of jaws 15 on a windows 7 laptop.

Thanks,
