What kind of VM are you running? 98 will run Jaws 5 with no problems -- I
know, as my old Pentium II machine I'm using for my MIDI computer in the big
studio setup runs it just fine. I haven't tried it on 95, though.

i figured as much. well since the version of eloquence can't be used
all i would need is just the installer from the cd or the cd itself.
sure that would work in a vm if it's not too much to ask. Think the
demo on that version was also 40 minutes back then.
Maybe putting it in a site such as sendspace or dropbox would work if
possible. Don't really need the auth disk.

For what it's worth, I don't have Windows 8, but I've pretty much abandoned Windows Media Player for the free VLC Media Player, which is available at www.videolan.org/vlc

It has a relatively intuitive menu structure, and it can play just about anything out there.

Hope that helps in some way,

Re: PODCAST % complete announcements.

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

Hi, Andre. You might be able to temporarily silence them through the configuration menu in JAWS. You would reach the configuration menu with the key combination Insert plus the number six on the numbers row. Then you would enter User Options and set progress bar announcements to none.

The drawback for this is that other percentage announcements would also be silenced. So you would need to turn them on again when finished with the podcast.

If losing speech entirely is not a problem, you can turn it off with the key combination:

Insert plus the space bar, then the key S.

To turn speech on again, you would press the same key combination as above to toggle speech.

Re: Messengers

Desiree Oudinot <turtlepower17@...>

Hi,
Thanks for the latest version of the preconfigured Miranda. After a
bit of fiddling, I've mostly got it doing what I want it to do.
However, I have a few questions, and a word of caution about its
installation.
First, the warning: When I installed this program, deleting the German
language pack did NOT force it to revert back to English. It simply
would not run. I had to go to google, type in language packs for
Miranda Instant Messenger, download and paste into the languages
folder a British English pack, and then it ran without a problem. You
are then able to switch back to American English, if you prefer, but
Miranda won't run with an empty languages folder, which makes a bit of
sense.

now, for my questions:
1. Is there a way to permanently change your status message in Aim? At
the moment, it's displaying some kind of default status in what I
assume is German, and each time I sign on, it pops up again. I can't
seem to get rid of it by erasing the edit field, either. My contacts
are probably going to be asking me if I got hacked or something soon,
lol.
2. How can I get the weather plugin to work? I see many options for
configuring it, which I have set to my liking, but I can't find a way
to actually enter a city and state or anything like that. I've looked
everywhere I can think of within the program, but it's eluding me.
3. Is the Speak plugin, which I remember from years ago when I used a
much older version of miranda, still compatible with this version? The
reason I ask is because there appears to be no sound for either
incoming or outgoing messages. I do see a sound event for outgoing
messages, but no sound is assigned to it. I intend to fix this myself,
but the incoming messages are a bit more complicated. There are
options for what looks like incoming typing notifications, and tons of
stuff for group chats, but I don't see anything regarding an actual
sound event for when messages arrive. So, if this is the case, I would
like to not have to guess when I've received a message, and am hoping
that the Speak plugin could remedy this. Incidentally, for those who
don't know, the Speak plugin was a way for Miranda to read messages as
they arrived using Sappi output.

I think that's all I need to know, everything else seems to be running
smoothly. It's less clunky than having both Aim and Skype running,
that's for sure, and for those who have more messengers, I'm sure it's
a real time-saver. So, thanks again for sharing.

On 6/18/14, Voy44 via Jfw <jfw@lists.the-jdh.com> wrote:
Hi all,

a guy developed an accessible, preconfigured version of Miranda NG.
Though the installer is on a German page, he said that removing the German
language file after installing or extracting the files should switch the
software to English.
It may also be that it will use your system defaults, so that it is in
English anyway.
A portable version can be created by unchecking the boxes for desktop and
start menu shortcuts, and specifying a drive of your choice.
As some parts of Miranda NG are tricky to configure, he configured
everything in the best accessible way, and added some sounds for events that

did not have any previously.
There are many messengers such as ICQ, Skype, Facebook, Yahoo!, and many
more, including other enhancements.

I have had occasion, recently, to use good old Notepad.

I remember it used to work pretty well with JAWS.

Now, however, the cursor position isn't reliably reported; the
text is often repeated; and sometimes text that I know is on the
line with the cursor is not read with up arrow or down arrow.

I'm using Windows 7 (work machine) and Jaws 15.

Has anyone else noticed this? When the screen is maximized I
think, on occasion, I get better results, but I wouldn't swear to
it.

I don't remember previously having a problem with Notepad. Plus,
it is so simple that I cannot imagine why JAWS is having these
problems.

I haven't seen the behavior you describe in notepad. I have seen it in
Word, mostly occurring when I open a second word document while
another is already open. I haven't especially noticed the cursor
position problem but will look for it. I frequently have the problem
of Jaws not reading when I arrow up and down in the second document.
Sometimes, usually in fact, I can get the text to read if after
arrowing down I perform a read line command. Very annoying.

I too am using windows 7 and Jaws 15 with office 2013.

I've experienced exactly the same symptoms. It also happened a couple

annoying. I use notepad all the time for quick notes and text files.

Maximizing and having word wrap on/off seems to have no effect, along
with
changing the font size (and that by the way, is never reported
correctly).

You might want to turn on word wrap.

Subject: Good old Notepad

I have had occasion, recently, to use good old Notepad.

I remember it used to work pretty well with JAWS.

Now, however, the cursor position isn't reliably reported; the
text is often repeated; and sometimes text that I know is on the
line with the cursor is not read with up arrow or down arrow.

I'm using Windows 7 (work machine) and Jaws 15.

Has anyone else noticed this? When the screen is maximized I
think, on occasion, I get better results, but I wouldn't swear to
it.

I don't remember previously having a problem with Notepad. Plus,
it is so simple that I cannot imagine why JAWS is having these
problems.

Fortunately, I have not ever experienced these or similar problems
using
Notepad.

Has anyone, who is experiencing problems with JAWS and Notepad, tried
using the basic text editor "HJPad", which has been included with
each
version of JAWS, since I do not remember when, to see if you get or
have
the same problems?

You will find "HJPad", in the first level of any JAWS submenu, for

I've experienced exactly the same symptoms. It also happened a
couple
JAWS
versions in the past, and then it was fixed. Now it's back again and
it's
annoying. I use notepad all the time for quick notes and text files.

Maximizing and having word wrap on/off seems to have no effect,
along
with
changing the font size (and that by the way, is never reported
correctly).

I went into the all programs list; and entered into the Jaws 15 submenu. Arrowing down several times I found, "run HJ pad".

Re: Messengers

Nermin

Hi all,

a guy developed an accessible, preconfigured version of Miranda NG.
Though the installer is on a German page, he said that removing the German language file after installing or extracting the files should switch the software to English.
It may also be that it will use your system defaults, so that it is in English anyway.
A portable version can be created by unchecking the boxes for desktop and start menu shortcuts, and specifying a drive of your choice.
As some parts of Miranda NG are tricky to configure, he configured everything in the best accessible way, and added some sounds for events that did not have any previously.
There are many messengers such as ICQ, Skype, Facebook, Yahoo!, and many more, including other enhancements.
The link is

Regards,
Nermin

Any ideas,
