Hi Tom,

Try using the Word commands to move from comment to comment. You
should find previous and next comment buttons under your review tab.
Make sure you have show comments checked. You may also want track
changes turned on.

If you have a lot of comments to review, you might consider placing
the previous and next comment buttons on the quick access toolbar then
accessing them whenneeded with the alt key and a number on the number
row of the keyboard.

I hope this helps.

supposed to list all comments, footnotes, endnotes, etc.

Good luck!

John,

There's more than one Dectalk. There's a USB version that I believe is still
on the market. I have it, and find it inadequate. There's also a software
version that may or may not be supported still by JAWS -I recall posts on
this subject, but not the outcome.

Dectalk Express is a hardware synthesizer that doesn't rely on a PC sound
card. I find it clearer in articulation than any other synthesizer I've
heard, and it has at least as much responsiveness to commands as Eloquence.

The drawback is that it hasn't been developed in at least two decades,
having lost support when its creator, digital Equipment, was bought out. I
believe the purchaser was Compaq, which itself has since been sucked into
Hewlett-Packard. Dectalk doesn't handle foreign languages, and with Win7 I
find it doesn't read foreign symbols in many contexts, such as online
documents.

Anyone accustomed to Eloquence is probably best served by that synthesizer
because it had later-stage development, although I'm one who still finds its
robot quality distracting. But I wish Dectalk Express hadn't been abandoned
or that the well-intentioned USB developer had succeeded in capturing its
responsiveness

more complications with iTunes

I clicked "finish" and proceeded to uninstall Apple Software Update and some related programs. After that I went to Downloads and installed the new version of iTunes, as well as an earlier BlindTunes, but didn't find iTunes as accessible as before. I landed in a group of buttons such as Search, Music, Store, etc. I couldn't get to the Radio tree view by selecting Sources (control+shift+s) followed by R; it just showed a list of options to purchase from the store. So I uninstalled iTunes again and tried downloading an earlier version, but got an error saying a file couldn't be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. (See below.) Any ideas why iTunes has become less friendly with Jaws (I'm staying with Jaws 9.0 for accessibility reasons), or how the Radio feature got disabled? Thanks.

Unfortunately the new version of Malwarebytes is not accessible with Jaws or
any other screen readers, so stick to your current version.

Hi all,
A new script that supports braille for a free email client called
mozilla thunderbird is now available. Much testing has gone into this
and a stable working version is at:
www.ThunderbirdBlind.com
Please feel free to visit the site. For those using windows live mail,
ditch that and get with the program!

Stay with 1.75. 2.0 is a complete Jaws no-go. The developers have been made
aware of this and they have acknowledged the screen reader problems and say
that they're working on addressing those problems in the next release, but
as 2.0 was only just recently released, it'll most likely be a while before
another update is rolled out.

Re: jaws 15 and reading comments in office 2010

Kimber Gardner

Taken from the Jaws help for Word,

Press INSERT+SHIFT+R to display a list of revisions. Select a revision
within the list, and press ENTER to move the insertion point to the
selected revision.

To view a list of revisions in the current Word document, do the following:

Press INSERT+SHIFT+R to toggle on Track Changes.
Press WINDOWS Key+SEMICOLON. The Items to Display in Virtual Viewer
dialog box opens.
Select Revisions from the list and press ENTER.
JAWS searches the document for revisions and shows the results in a
Virtual Viewer window.
Note: You can also use the Items to Display in Virtual Viewer dialog
box to view a list of comments, endnotes, or footnotes in the
document. When viewing these items, it is not necessary to first turn
on Track Changes.

I hope that helps.

Kimber

Sorry, Dave, I don't remember either. I think the last time I obtained a unit, I plugged it in and let it charge for as much as a day before testing. They are remarkably resilient, so you might try that.

Adrian:

I plugged in the power supply for both units and left them to charge the
battery for about 20 minutes. When I turned them on, nothing, not a pop,
squeek or anything.

The thing I cannot remember is, if the battery is completely flat, do you
have to wait for a while so the battery has some charge in it, before you
can turn it on or, should you be able to turn on the unit and use the
synthesizer without any charge in the battery.

Sincerely:

Dave,

Have you tried them out? I haven't plugged mine into my Win7 system for so
long that I can't remember where I attached it, but I do recall that JAWS
typically picks it up in Com1. As you'll recognize from the parts,
there'll be another cable for the AC adaptor. Then make sure JAWS is set
up to recognize it as a synthesizer via the utilities menu.

One of mine that I recently bought off another user works imperfectly, so
I'd be glad to know of a repair place. However, the one I bought from the
dealer maybe twenty years ago still works fine.

Dave,

Recommend you charge them overnight before trying to run them. If the
battery is pulling most of the current to charge, the terminal voltage may
be too low to trigger the unit on.
