Re: my word doc says heading on every line

Ford, Tim (CDPH-OLS) <Tim.Ford@...>

I think I know the fix, or at least one approach.

In my experience, JAWS is simply letting you know that the line is coded as a heading, but the word "heading" is not in the actual text. However, there is an easy way to clean out all that heading and other unwanted coding.

1. Select the text to clean up, control a, if you want to clean the entire document.

2. Press control x to cut the material to the clipboard.

3. Staying in the now-empty document, use the right click/application key (shift f10 also works), and cursor down to the "keep text only" line, and press enter. One note of caution, in my Office 2010, JAWS skips over this option when you cursor down, but does say it when using the up arrow. I cursor down until it says "font", then arrow up one.

The resulting material is clean text, recognizing only the text and hard returns contained in the original. Just about everything else has been stripped out, and your "headings" should be gone.

Best of luck. I use this process routinely, so once you get the hang of it, it will be easy to do from memory.

Tim Ford

I want to do this before I use Kurzweil to make the word doc into an mp3, don't want it to say "heading" at the start of every line.

Hi Jeff,

I think you can just select all the text in the document using control + A
and then go into the paragraph settings. Tab over once and you should here
outline level - just make sure that is set to body text.

Hi Jim.

It's still a bit complicated yep. To be honest I only do limited things with it, but there are people on the list much more in the know than me. I am sure you can record streams, but thinking about it think its not that straightforward.

It's free though, perhaps trying again is an option?

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion though.

Hello everyone:

I have an HP laptop.

On the hard drive, there is a hidden partition, containing an install of
Windows 7, Home Ultimate, which came with the system when I purchased the
computer.

I now wish to install Windows 7 Professional instead.

Obviously, I will need to remove the hard drive from the laptop and
connect
it to another computer.

I know that I can use the Windows Disk Manager to remove the visible
partitions. However, The Windows Disk Manager, will not show the hidden
partition.

Does anyone on the list, know of any hard drive partitioning software or
hard drive disk management software, which is accessible using a
screen-reader, that will enable me to unhide the hidden partition, so that
I
can delete it?

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Aidan <aidan.smarttalk@...>

I suggest you get total recorder to work, as it can work on windows7.
I asked them to support aac plus streams and such, hope they will do
it, but that program is the easiest. If you want no jaws in your
recordings, just switch off speech with insert space s, or if you have
jaws ten and older, just insert v, then the end key, and press the
spacebar to turn it off and press enter. Repeat to turn back on. Or
perhaps get a USB headset to root jaws fru. That can help.

Re: making document all the same font

I should also add that you can make this type of pasting behavior a standard
method in your overall computer settings. For MS 2010: File tab > Options >
Advanced >
Under the "Cut, Copy and Paste" section: Pasting withing the same document,
Pasting between document, pasting between documents when the style
definitions conflict, Pasting from other Programs. My settings for the last
two are "Keep Text only" not "Keep Source Formatting." When I paste other
documents into my work they automatically match my formatting.
Now to find the JAWS keys for that...

Another tip (minus the JAWS keys, because I am new to it) to make everything
the same font as your destination document, Do a Paste > Paste Special >
Unformatted Text. This takes all your content, no matter the source, and
makes it the font that the destination document has. Now it's up to the
JAWS specialists to find the right keystrokes for that. I'll give it a try
when I have a chance.

I'm speaking as someone who still uses MS 2003, but this is how I do it.

Use control plus a to highlight your whole document, then bring up your
options with alt plus o. Select Font from the resulting menu and then just
tab across making your font choices. Entering on OK should then convert your
document to your chosen font.

I appreciate that this is probably totally inaccurate for your version of
Word, but hey, you never know!

Regards.

I'm using JAWS 15 and Word 2010

I have a document made up of a bunch of copy and pastes so lots of
different fonts.

How can I make the document show up all in the same font?

Thanks

Re: audio recorder

Hello Jim.

I use Audacity regularly and it doesn't record the speech from Jaws. Most of the features are accessible to us and there is a helpful forum where you can ask questions.

Audacityforblind@freelists.org.

If you google Audacity software you can download it for free.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Ron

Subject: audio recorder

Heya Folks,

Can anyone recommend an audio recorder software program that works great
with Windows 7 and Jaws 15. I use to use Total Recorder on my old XP PC but
for some stupid reason the Windows 7 version won't allow to exclude
programs, in other words I can record my radio streams etc but it also
records my Jaws speech which is so annoying.

So please advise on some programs that can record my radio streams directly
and exclude my Jaws screen reader.
And that also works wonderful with Jaws

Cheers,

Jim
