Jaws installation question for Windows 7 laptop
Tom Behler
Hi, folks.
I have read some discussion about the need to determine whether a windows 7 machine is either 32-bit or 64-bit prior to actually installing Jaws. I have been told that you must select either the 32-bit or 64-bit Jaws package before conducting the installation process. Is this true? If so, how do you make that selection from the Jaws 12 installation CD? Tom in Michigan

Well, if you buy a new computer and are setting it up for the first time, You can use narrator to get you through the screens. Then you could install the jaws program.

I bought a new computer yesterday and have been having fun in putting the programs on it. it was set up when I got it. I am having some problems in IE 9. when I go to download a program and I get to the option where it says to either save or run the program I cannot get it to go to save. I have had it to get to run by trying different things. in the windows Mail program I have been having some issues with writing messages. I am typing the message and when I make a mistake I arrow back to correct the problem and there is nothing there or JAWS isn’t reading it. I have tried another r screen reading program and had some issues with the brows mode. I am wondering if JAWS is now having some issues with that? I am wondering if it is the programs like windows mail, and IE 9, or is it JFW, or is it the computer. I have tried fire fox and it seems to work better with JFW than IE 9. any suggestions would be appreciated. Like I said, the computer is new and if there is an issue with It I would like to get it solved since I have only had it home for 2 days. Thank you again in advance. In a recent post, I believe Adrian said the following: "Many listers have reported flaws in JAWS 12, possibly because it is more directed to Windows 7 than XP. ... I still use XP Pro, and the warnings on this list have convinced me to stay with JAWS 11, even though my SMA entitles me to JAWS 12." The timing for this comment couldn't have been better in my case. Although this is likely to change soon as my University switches us all completely over to Windows 7, my desktop at work is still an XP machine, and still has Jaws 11. The back-up PC I have at home is an XP machine, and that too has Jaws 11. So, is the collective wisdom of the group to keep things as they are now on the XP machines, rather than installing Jaws 12 which seems to be geared more to Windows 7? If this is true, you guys have just saved me some head-aches with my remaining XP computers, and I thank you sincerely for that. I'll save my headaches for installing Jaws 12 on the new Windows 7 laptop the University will give me this week. Re: [Bulk] [Bulk] To upgrade or not
Dave...
Adrian,
Yes, but if Cliff has an SMA linked to version 11, he is already in a position where he either needs to purchase a new SMA to get version 12 (if it's not already too late), or pay full price to get version 12 plus SMA for version 13. In other words, if he has 10 and an SMA the best he can do is 11 -- which in my opinion is the best version out so far. I've been discouraged by comments on this list from installing JAWS 12, but doing so won't hurt your ability to use JAWS 11. Then you can make your own tests to determine which works better on your system and for your purposes. Keep in mind that if you are an Excel user, Dave has demonstrated the problems JAWS 12 has with Excel that JAWS 11 doesn't. If you are an MS Access user, Ted has explained that only JAWS 10 works with it and not versions 11 and 12. Re: [Bulk] Unwanted Racist Emails from Mostafa.al'madi
Tim <tim@...>
I once had trouble with someone from another list refusing to take me off his list. He persisted in sending me stories he wrote that were so full of profanity that there was absolutely no appreciable art in them. I just black listed his email address. I received a few emails shortly after that--none of which I responded to. I have not received a single email from him for quite some time.

Re: [Bulk] To upgrade or not
Adrian Spratt
Dave, I think Cliff is saying he has an SMA for versions 11 and 12 but has

chosen to stay with JAWS 10. Cliff, I suggest you install JAWS 11 and, only after that, JAWS 12. I find JAWS 11, latest build, works pretty well. I switch between different versions, going back to JAWS 9, based on what I know works with each one.

Subject: Re: [Bulk] To upgrade or not Cliff, Either way, if you have an SMA with version 10 you are allowed version 11 at no extra charge. Version 12 will cost you. It doesn't matter if you choose to skip a version, you are still not going to get an extra version. So if you do have an SMA for version 10 you are already at the point where you need to purchase a new SMA or buy JAWS at the regular street price. My SMA entitles me to upgrade to 11 or 12. Is there a compelling reason why I should do either. From the previous thread, it sounds like the juryy's out on 12. Is 11 a vast improvement over 10?
