Re: Adding heading Styles

Ed Marquette <marquette.ed@...>

Much good information has been given on this subject. There are
just two cautions.
First, headings are, in fact, styles. So, you can reach them by
pressing, as someone suggests, control plus shift plus s. Then,
hit down arrow and follow with the letter h. You should try this
before using the shortcut key that Ann suggests -- the first time.
This is because you may be using a template document or a document
created by someone else which does not use the heading styles. In
fact, many third-party style creators disable the heading styles,
which is unfortunate.
If, however, you do have heading styles, Ann's suggestion works
great.
Control plus alt plus 1 gets you heading 1; control plus alt plus
2 gets you heading 2; and control plus alt plus 3 gets you heading
3. Unfortunately, if you need to go below heading 3, you must use
the control plus shift plus s technique referenced above and in
another post.
Also, Ann's suggestion of highlighting is a good one, though not
necessary if you plan to add the heading style to the entire
paragraph (until the return).
I say Ann's suggestion is a good one because you may want the
heading style to apply only to the first few words of a paragraph,
and not the entire paragraph.
This is particularly true if the heading 1 style also includes
characteristics such as bold or underlining.
Remember a heading is not the same thing as a header.

Re: Updating authorization!!!

Michael Boyd <mikeboyd61@...>

Hi,

You should have your serial number either on the original DVD you received, and it will also appear in the "About JAWS" section of the Help menu. So will the "locking code" of your computer. You will need both of these nembers. Then, open your web browser, and navigate to www.fsactivate.com. On this page you can select to retrieve your authorization code. To do this, you will be asked for the locking code and the serial number. You can just copy these from the About JAWS menu, and paste them into the fields on the web page. Then, click on "Get Registration Code", and another page will open with the registration code displayed on it. I suggest that you copy and paste it into a Word document or something, to have it handy. Now, in the Help menu, click on "Update Authorization", and select "Using code generated from fsactivate.com", and when prompted, paste your registration code into the field provided, and click on "OK". And your done.

HTH,
Mike

Dave...

Lee,

You are in good company, if I may elevate myself to that level. I've been
wrong more than once and often very publicly.

Now I'm wondering just how Eric Damrie knows me as "Farfar"? Maybe some of
the messages I sent directly to him actually got through.

Farfar is correct; I was dead wrong.

I checked with folks who run the beta testers program. It even got referred
all the way up to Eric Damery. His response: "I agree with Farfar."

I can't say I appreciate the abuse, but I am sorry for wasting everybody's

They also said that people who are having problems with 14.0.9002 should
report them to Tech Support.

Just curious -- how long did it take JAWS 14 to start under the same
circumstances?

And does this slow start happen each time or just the first time after the

My jaws starts automatically all right, after two minutes. That's two
minutes af the windows music mind you. Using w9indows 7. In all fairness,
perhaps there's some other factors, I just don't know what they might be.

Lee,

You raised an important issue, and as I wrote earlier, it was a valid concern several JAWS versions ago.

To be clear, are you saying that FS endorses the use of the merge settings utility? Or are you referring to another aspect of the thread?

I didn't catch the abuse you mention. I, for one, am sorry you felt anyone was anything less than respectful.

Hello.

I realize that this is off topic, so please respond off list.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a free trial version of
Outlook 2010?

I am having all kinds of pproblems with the version of Outlook 2010 I'm
working with, including Outlook itself constantly freezing, etc.. It was
purchased as part of an Office 2010 software package through my University
as a University employee, but I am beginning to think that something might
be defective in the software.

I checked with our University's tech center, but they say the copy I have is
the only one they have.

I certainly don't want to do anything illegal here, but I just thought that
if I could get another trial copy to work with, that might tell me whether
the problem is with the software itself.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
