Re: Transferring Alt Control J shortcut from Jaws 11 to Jaws 12
Chris Smart <csmart8@...>
transfer it? Well, hit alt+enter on the Jaws 11 icon on your desktop, tab until you're in the shortcut key hotkey field and delete it. Then bring up the same properties for the Jaws 12 icon with alt+enter and input the hotkey you want to use to launch it, ctrl+alt+enter for example.
Personally, I have a hotkey for either so I can load 11 for some tasks and 12 for others.

I just thought of one more question here.
What is the best way to transfer the Alt Control J shortcut to Jaws 12 from Jaws 11, when doing the upgrade process?
I seem to recall having a problem with this once before in earlier upgrades, and can't remember how to resolve it.
All I remember is that I had great difficulty transferring the shortcut over to the new version of Jaws from the earlier version.
I would have thought that the "merge utilities" function would have taken care of this, but it didn't in my earlier upgrade efforts.
Thanks for putting up with all my questions lately.

Regarding activations, does a single-license Jaws user like myself have a given number of activations for each separate version of Jaws, or is the allotted number of 3 activations constant across all versions of Jaws collectively?
I am getting a couple of new computers set up for both office and home, and
am trying to figure out how best to proceed, while still keeping an older Windows XP machine around as a back-up in case that is needed as well.
I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could probably use if neded, if that would give me more activations to work

I've always found it advantageous to re-create this shortcut for any new version. Like many JAWS users, I have a few versions on my system because later ones broke what previously worked. Each time I install a new version (i.e., 10, 11, 12), I assign the j shortcut to it and reassign other shortcuts to older versions.

There is no need to transfer the alt, control, + J, keystroke. That is the default shortcut keystroke for all versions of Jaws. What you need to do is go to the Jaws12 context menu / options / basics and check the box to have Jaws12 start automatically. By checking this box in any version of Jaws, tells Jaws to use this particular keystroke as the shortcut keystroke. Hope this helps. Take care. Mike

Gerald:
Not so fast there!
I work as a college professor, and need a PC for my normal office work, and a laptop when in the classroom or when traveling.
So, that's two computers for work.
Then, at home, I have my main PC, but like to have a back-up, just in case I experience a system crash like I did a few weeks ago.
So, I use three computers mainly in my personal and professional life, but have the fourth as a back-up to call into service as needed.

Steve, a small objection from one who has requested new activations only twice in nearly two decades. Agreed, requesting a lot of activations could indicate usage outside the terms of our agreement with FS. However, it's clear that many people here need activations for reasons to do with the number of systems they have, the hardware upgrades they install, the occasional mistakes they make, and so on. FS has a right to protect its revenue source, but it does come at a cost to customers of the unrestricted use of a program we paid generously for.

Hi, all.
I'm between computers here, and have a question about Jaws activation counts.
I know I could call FS about this, but figured I might get a quicker answer from the list.
I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could probably use if neded, if that would give me more activations to work
with.
Thanks!

Re: Important: Disabling Application Mode in Jaws 10?
Hi Mike, Thank you so much for throwing this suggestion out there!! It actually works, at least when editing Wordpress pages in HTML mode... I haven't tried it for those other instances where I'm encountering application mode, but it solves my problem in this most important instance! Thanks a million! warmest, Kim -------------------------------------------------- From: "Mike & Barbara In Arcadia" <mb69mach1@charter.net> Sent: Friday, August 19, 2011 10:27 PM To: "The Jaws for Windows support list." <jfw@lists.the-jdh.com> Subject: Re: Important: Disabling Application Mode in Jaws 10? Hi Kim,
Another thing you can try in this situation is invoking the keystroke, Jaws Key + Z. This toggles the virtual cursor key between off & auto. This is only a suggestion. I am not sure if this will help, but is worth a try. Take care. Mike

Hi Adrian and Mike,
Well, unfortunately, Mike, your method didn't work for me... yes, applications mode would, in fact, go off, but keeps coming back on the next time I try to move my cursor or enter a key command. Thanks so much for trying, though! I really appreciate it. *smile*
Adrian, I sadly must agree with you regarding inconsistent methods here... I've tried everything, but to no real avail. I appreciate knowing that 11 seems to illiminate this issue, at least for you... very good to know.
I apppreciate hearing about your experiences... they mirror mine, at least as far as Jaws 10 goes. Anyway, thanks so much!
Warmest, Kim

Re: Transferring Alt Control J shortcut from Jaws 11 to Jaws 12
Tom,
I've always found it advantageous to re-create this shortcut for any new version. Like many JAWS users, I have a few versions on my system because later ones broke what previously worked. Each time I install a new version (i.e., 10, 11, 12), I assign the j shortcut to it and reassign other shortcuts to older versions.

Re: Transferring Alt Control J shortcut from Jaws 11 to Jaws 12
Mike & Barbara In Arcadia <mb69mach1@...>
Hi Tom,
There is no need to transfer the alt, control, + J, keystroke. Take care. Mike

Can some one check with FS and tell us here how the price would be if pearchising a dongle instead of an ILM license? I have a dongle because this is the only option with the Hebrew version of JFW in Israel but I'm not limited to activations and the dongle could be used with any JAWS version/language. I can transfer the dongle freely from one computer to the other without anything.
Thank you,

Hello there;
No, you will only receive 3 Regardless of which version you use,

Hi, all.
I'm between computers here, and have a question about Jaws activation counts.
I know I could call FS about this, but figured I might get a quicker answer from the list.
I have Jaws 12, but a few earlier versions of Jaws that I could probably use if neded, if that would give me more activations to work
with.
Thanks!
Tom from Michigan
