I believe there is a project to develop scripts for Quicken via the
www.doitblind.com web site. John is working with Intuit, I believe on this.

Has anyone out there had any success using Quicken for their banking?

I have the Quicken 2013 starter edition and it seems somewhat accessible but
not completely.

Does anyone have any suggestions or is there a script available for this
program?

Re: Flash Player will not install without Java

Mario

google "flash MSI", goto the Adobe related link, and find the MSI download.
this is the accessible "no junk" installation. make sure you get the MSI and
not the EXE.

BTW, Ninite was asked by Adobe to remove the links for Flash and Reader.
UpdateFlash was a service from Ninite which provided no hastle of updating
Flash without naving to the checkbox, the get update button and download
link. Unfortunately that's gone.HTH

Adrian,

Filehippo is a one stop shop for freeware/shareware applications. In
order to find what you are looking for, you can do the following:

Bring up the "Links list", hit B until you hear "browsers and plugins".
Hit enter.
Links list again, hit F until you hear "Flash Player ###### IE/Non-IE" -
Note that there are 32 and 64 bit versions. If you are unsure which one
you need...If you have a newer computer, then you might have a 64 bit
computer. If it's older (+3 years old or more) then it might be 32 bit.
Hit enter on the right one and you will be directed to another page. If
in doubt, go with the 32 bit.
Links list again, hit D until you hear "Download Latest Version" (do not
add the "download our free update checker...") click enter to be taken
to the adobe flash player page. Please note that you may need to uncheck
a "McAfee AntiVirus" form field which is an automated installer that can
come with the Adobe update.

Bring up the "Headers list" to surf through the different types of
available software.

If you need older versions of software, find the one that you need and
click the link to take you to the software page; look for "Download
Latest Version" and instead of hitting enter, arrow down for previous
releases.

the updating of Adobe Flash Player. It is possible the website will
still do so, but only after you pay an annual subscription of $9.99.
The website isn't clear on this point.

The next day I got an alert that AFP needs to be updated. I went
through the installation process, which has become more accessible,
only to be told the installation was unsuccessful. The reason?
Apparently it's because I removed Java from my system after
recommendations to do so from the government and several experts.

Has anyone here solved this conundrum?

Updateflash.org is gone. It can't be used anymore to update flash.

Just space on the unnamed button, and if there is an I button, click on that afterward.

Once I save and then try to open the installer I land in a group of inaccessible buttons with no clue what to do next: I find an unnamed button and a quit button--Jaws won't let me select I Agree or Next. Does this take sighted help using a mouse, or is there an alternative way to download the player that's more blind friendly? I'm not sure if updateflash.org includes the non-IE version of Flash. Thanks.

Adrian,

Filehippo is a one stop shop for freeware/shareware applications. In order to find what you are looking for, you can do the following:

Bring up the "Links list", hit B until you hear "browsers and plugins". Hit enter.
Links list again, hit F until you hear "Flash Player ###### IE/Non-IE" - Note that there are 32 and 64 bit versions. If you are unsure which one you need...If you have a newer computer, then you might have a 64 bit computer. If it's older (+3 years old or more) then it might be 32 bit. Hit enter on the right one and you will be directed to another page. If in doubt, go with the 32 bit.
Links list again, hit D until you hear "Download Latest Version" (do not add the "download our free update checker...") click enter to be taken to the adobe flash player page. Please note that you may need to uncheck a "McAfee AntiVirus" form field which is an automated installer that can come with the Adobe update.

Bring up the "Headers list" to surf through the different types of available software.

If you need older versions of software, find the one that you need and click the link to take you to the software page; look for "Download Latest Version" and instead of hitting enter, arrow down for previous releases.

On the weekend, a lister alerted me that Nimite no longer supports
the updating of Adobe Flash Player.

Hi guys,
This all sounds very promising. I have now crossed my technical knowledge boundary and am now in this all sounds quite confusing and scary land.

What learning materials should I read so that I might understand these things? I am pretty new to screenreaders but I am a programmer so not too worried about complexity. Just not sure where to go to get the knowledge.

Many thanks

Hi Mike,

That is close, but rather than take an application specific shortcut and
turn it off. I need to take a global shortcut and turnit off in one
specific application. Can the keyboard manager do that? I haven't dared
do anything in the keyboard manager before.

Basically I am looking into using iTunes without BlindTunes and the only
thing that I cannot do quite trivially is skip forwards and backwards
through a track. The iTunes shortcut is Control AT Left/Right Arrow
which conflicts with Jaws HTML table navigation.
So I want to be able to tell Jaws to ignore that keyboard shortcut while
in iTunes.
Granted pressing Insert 3 first allows me to use it but this makes for
alot of key presses to skip an ad in a podcast.
Note that I am a BlindTunes user normally. It's a great script, I'm just
looking into how to use iTunes scriptless.
Cheers

Hi Jack,

I have never done this but, you can try going into the Keyboard Manager, tab
1 time into the list of applications, find the application you want to work with, tab 1 time into the list of keystrokes for that application, & I think, control + H, is the change keystroke, keystroke while in the list of keystrokes of the particular application. As I said earlier, I've never done this so, I would make notes of exactly the before & after changes in case you need to put things back to the default settings.

Take care.

Is there a way of disabling a Jaws keyboard shortcut in a specific

Hi Jack,

I have never done this but, you can try going into the Keyboard
Manager, tab
1 time into the list of applications, find the application you want
to work with, tab 1 time into the list of keystrokes for that
application, & I think, control + H, is the change keystroke,
keystroke while in the list of keystrokes of the particular
application. As I said earlier, I've never done this so, I would
make notes of exactly the before & after changes in case you need to
put things back to the default settings.

Take care.

Hi all,

Is there a way of disabling a Jaws keyboard shortcut in a specific
application? There is a shortcut that I want to use in a particular
application which clashes with a Jaws keyboard shortcut. There must
be a way to tell Jaws to not intercept the shortcut in Application X
or Y.

Many thanks
Jack

David Ingram

Hi, how are you? I'd like to know how can I tell if the add-on that I just installed works properly? Thank you for any information that you might have.

G:oogle for the add-ons homepage.

Then download it and install it as you do with any firefox add-on.

As for the extended release version of ff, i gave the download page in my previous mail.

Of course there is: Go to the update tab in the advanced options.

However, there might be a way to get your add-ons to work and still have the added security of keeping your firefox current, which really is the purpose of staying current with FF.

Search for an add-on called the "add-on compatibility reporter" and install it. It is a tool meant to tell Mozilla if and whihc add-ons work with which firefox version. As a side benefit, the add-on compatibility reporter" allows most add-ons to work with newer versions of firefox also.

Finally, since there have been some problems with accessibility in the most recent versions of Firefox, I would personally recommend you use the "Extended Support release" of firefox instead. This is meant for the business and large company environment which does not need and may not want the latest bells and whistles all the time but still wants and needs security updates. The extended support release of FF really works like FF used to without the recent breakneck speed of cranking out updates that sometimes leaves concern for compatibility behind.

I origianlly began using the Extended Support re release of FF because I ran a legacy operating system but It has also protected me ofnasty accessibility surprises in a few cases.

you get the extended support release at

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html

Finally, you may want to do a custom install and uncheck the option to have the "maintenance service" installed so you have no update pushed onto you silently.

You could do a system restore if you don't have too much you'd be
losing by doing so. I have Firefox set to accept no updates because of
the issues it has with Flash.
