Hi you can get several games at his site, but your student will most likely
be interested in "Destination Mars," and a western game I can't seem to

I have a student who is using Jaws who is in 7th grade. Are there any fun games that she can access online in school using Jaws or her Apex? The other students will be playing computer games during their free time next week.

What is happening with Jaws here?

Robert Logue <bobcat11@...>

The shortcut is to a youtube video but the problem is how Jaws is reading the text below from one of the comments.

micro synths´╗┐

Go to the s in "synths and press right arrow. Sometimes I get astrisk, sometimes percent, question, pound, or the andsymbol.
Pres left than right arrow again and Jaws reads a different symbol.
If punctuation is set to read some or more, the up and down arrows also read a different character at the end of synths every time.
Even in the text I copied above from the web page into this message.

Jaws says the character is 65279 which I think is way out of range.
I don't understand charactor sets and how Jaws and different text editors give different results when reading them. For example: Jarte often converts symbols like ' apostrophe into all sorts of weird symbols that other text editors read as '.

Re: Scanning software

Ariel

Hi George,
Yes. They will definitely help. I have already looked into it, and things will be fine when I do transfer next year. This past year was a bit messy because I just rushed into college. So, I ended up taking classes with this dude, who does not believe in technology. Let's just say that he is old school. However, I still manage to have my assignments in a way that I could accomplish it. I did use Openbook, DocuScan and Kurzweil, but I didn't like how they worked, so now I am just asking questions about both Abby Fine Reader and Omnipage Pro. They seem affordable enough, so I might buy them in the near future. As I explained before, the software I currently use, it's property of my current college, so it will have to stay when I transfer. Thus, the interest in scanning software. Anyway, thanks for all who have helped in this discussion,
A

Re: Scanning software

Ariel

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the advice. I am well aware of that. The reason why I am considering purchasing Abby Fine Reader or Omnipage Pro is because I am hopefully transfering to MIT, and I will no longer have Kurzweil since it belongs to my current college. All you said is true. I appreciate it. I have used several Scanning programs and I know what you mean. Also, the price of both programs is quite affordable. Thanks,
A

Hi Dave,
Thanks very much. I already have Kurzweil from my college, but I was sort of interested in both products. I did look up the price, and you are right. There are pretty good deals. I found both products at $69.99, which is pretty good. What I am wondering now is which one is better? Does anyone know whether there are some podcasts on Abby Fine Reader and Omnipage Pro? I might end up getting either one of them, but I would like to know which product is best. If anyone can let me know, it would be very much appreciate it. Thanks,

Hi All.

I have alwaysed used Google and had little problems with that.

Recently, however, I am finding it takes longer and longer to search and
open links. I press a key and Jaws takes 3 4 5 seconds to respond.
Sometimes even longer.

I have tried using Ask.com which is slightly faster, but doesn't list
links
in the same way as google.

Could anyone explain what the problem might be?

I am using Jaws 13 with Windows xp.

Many thanks.

Also, I honestly believe that setting the scanner to black and white only
helps with accuracy.
My ancient HP flatbed scanner was black and white only and it was a lot more
accurate than what I have today.
I have a small portable Cassio USB scanner which does a very good job and is
probably better than my HP all in one jobbie.

Ariel:

Do not run away with the idea, that there is an OCR program out there, which wil produce 100% accuracy, 100% of the time, because if you do, you will be very disappointed.

The quality and accuracy of the print; the quality of the paper, especially, how much filler does it contain, are two of the main factors which determine the accuracy of the eventual output.

Wow! That's awesome! I suppose I sort of been looking for such program. Last semester, I had to do a lot of scanning for my class, and I had a lot of trouble with Kurzweil. It wasn't always accurate. I will definitely give Abby Fine Reader a try. It will be really useful since my assignments are all given in paper. Thanks for the info,

Hi Dave,
Thanks very much. Thanks,

Subject: Search Engines

Hi All.

I have alwaysed used Google and had little problems with that.

Recently, however, I am finding it takes longer and longer to search and open links. I press a key and Jaws takes 3 4 5 seconds to respond. Sometimes even longer.

I have tried using Ask.com which is slightly faster, but doesn't list links in the same way as google.

Could anyone explain what the problem might be?

I am using Jaws 13 with Windows xp.

Many thanks.
