Secure Mail
Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Anybody using JFW with any kind of mail encryption program? We Use a package known as Entrust, 9.1, and it sends JAWS into suspension as soon as I open a message. What you do is enter your password, tab to OK, and enter, or click. Narrator won't work, because it has no mouse buttons. The problem only occurs when we send or receive info to or from a contractor outside of Medicaid. Convenient OCR won't work, as JAWS in suspended until you close the message.

To my knowledge, there is no connection between Java and Adobe Flash, so removing the former from your computer should not affect the installation of the latter. I removed Java from my system a few months ago and have had no problem installing the latest updates to Adobe Flash from the Adobe Flash download site.

Flash Player will not install without Java
Adrian Spratt
On the weekend, a lister alerted me that Nimite no longer supports the
updating of Adobe Flash Player. It is possible the website will still do so, but only after you pay an annual subscription of $9.99. The website isn't clear on this point. The next day I got an alert that AFP needs to be updated. I went through the installation process, which has become more accessible, only to be told the installation was unsuccessful. The reason? Apparently it's because I removed Java from my system after recommendations to do so from the government and several experts. Has anyone here solved this conundrum? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Re: Accessible Word Prediction Software
Adrian Spratt
MS Word provides options for misspelled words or choices of words that
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
appear incorrect. Both spelling and grammar checkers must be on. I think they might even work as you type, but I've never tried that setting because I figure it would be too distracting. Google is surprisingly good at figuring out which word you actually meant to type in the search field. It can help to add search terms to make the context clear. Although not a JAWS suggestion, I noticed tonight as I start learning to use the iPhone that the iPhone 5, if not earlier versions, have a feature you can turn on and off to guess which word you actually meant. I suspect these are indirect suggestions to your address your question, but I mention them just in case.

Re: web browsers & Jaws 14
Adrian Spratt
Hi, Crystal.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Yes, slippage is familiar, and your word for it is nicely descriptive. As a reminder of what you already know, I have two thoughts. Most of the time, keeping focus near the link you want and then going into links list with insert-F7 puts JAWS on good behavior. I'm also finding in some cases that links don't work well or even at all in emails that have lots of content. I've been putting such messages into the browser. In Outlook 10, I do this by pressing alt-h, then a for actions, then arrowing down (I think three times). Again, I have Win7, IE9 and JAWS 14.

Subject: Re: web browsers & Jaws 14 Hi Adrian, Thank you for taking the time to check this out. I do have the Fire Fox version 20. It does work better than Jaws in IE 10 with the pages that prove difficult. I did see some sluggishness with Jaws in Fire Fox if I returned later to a page, but found that by clearing the browsing history that Jaws would once again work much better. Have you ever noticed Jaws focus slipping on some web pages? By that I mean, I will find a link, press enter on it, and Jaws brings up another link instead of what I wanted. Crystal From: Adrian Spratt Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2013 3:53 PM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Subject: RE: web browsers & Jaws 14 Crystal, Like you, I'm using Win7 and JAWS 14. I don't have IE10, but I did the test anyway in IE9 and Firefox 20. While in IE9, I followed the "Dog products" link, and JAWS verbalized nothing. For a moment, I thought my system had frozen. I then tried to access the page with Firefox, and this time had complete success. The links list came up, and I was able to arrow up and down through it. Firefox updated just in the past 24 hours to version 20. I'd already found it made a difference. You might check your FF version with control-insert-v and, if need be, upgrade to 20. Still, that doesn't solve the IE problem, other than to say the page doesn't work well in IE9, as well as 10. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:jfw-bounces@...] On Behalf Of Crystal French Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2013 3:13 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. Today, I decided to install mazilla Fire Fox on my computer to see if I could use it instead of IE 10 on bothersome pages. I am also using Windows 7, 64 bit. The very same web pages that give me grief in IE 10 do exactly the same thing in Fire Fox. I’m wondering now if there might be a setting in Jaws, or the browsers, that may be the problem. Of course, that takes in a lot of territory. Here is another web site that gives me trouble, in addition to the search results pages on eBay. www.petproductadvisor.com Now, I can go to the home page, no problem. I can then enter on the dog products link, and that page comes up, Jaws might even announce it, but it doesn’t work properly at all. For example, if I try to bring up the links list, and sit back and wait, it may appear. If it does, Jaws moves very sluggishly, if it does anything. In mazilla Fire Fox, I usually just get “no links,” “no form field,s,” “no headings.” I think you get the idea. If anything occurs to anyone, I’ll give it a try.
