Re: Apostrophe saying twice?

Robert Logue <bobcat11@...>

This is really weird. Right now, Jaws is not reading the apostrophes in the example. Yet. I often have trouble with Jaws Eloquence
saying apostrophes when used as quotes. I can't figure what's different.

I should load an example in to Thunderbird the next time I find one.

Jaws, Eloquence, and Jarte really don't get along with apostrophe's and some other high value special characters.

Now to see what else is weird with my computer. Last time I tried to reply to this message, Thunderbird couldn't save it and crashed.

Re: Help whith TaxAct forms method

Dave...

George,

No, the forms mode does not work well at all. I indicated in my report of
that fact. The Q&A is the only best way to use TaxActs with JAWS. Once you
get used to the interface, you will be able to figure out how to go to the
appropriate area to avoid slogging through the entire sequence from the
start.

I think that forms mode overlays an actual graphical form on one side of the
screen, with the forms list on the other. Tabbing does bring up some
numbers, but the relevant line numbers or the label text is very difficult
to determine.

Hi all.
IE 7 wants to install IE 10 on my 64 bit machine. Is there a majority
consensus (sorry about spelling) as to whether to do it or not? I have had
some experience with IE 10 on this machine before. It was a Dell machine
that came with Win/8 and IE 10. This was 4 months ago.
First off I had a real bad time installing Jaws 14 on the machine.
Took 3 days and help from Dell and FS to get the proglem sorted out.
That was finally sorted out and I started playing with the Win/8 and Jaws.
Many different ways of doing things in 8 but that was another story. When I
was using IE 10, there are 2 different versions of it in 8, I could not get
IE 10 to keep my passwords for my internet favorites. No matter how I tried,
even going to the tools and deleting the history and password files.
After getting really frustrated I removed Win/8 from this machine and
installed Win/7HP and now go on my merry way.
Now that IE 10 wants to rejoin me, what does everyone think about it?
Using newest bill of Jaws 14. Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Morey,

My experience of IE 10, with Jaws 14 and Windows 8 is that at times you have to run some websites in compatibility mode, in order that they render properly.

You can find compatibility mode under the 'tools' menu in IE 10.

Stuart

Online Edit Field Issues

Philip Anderson <p.anderson@...>

I'm using JFW 12, windows 7 and IE 9. The issues I'm having are with search
boxes - be it Google, BBC - any search/edit box at all.

When I land in the edit field, occasionally JAWS stops speaking for maybe
30-60 seconds as though everything has frozen. It doesn't matter which key I
press,, JAWS simply refuses to co-operate. 8 times out of ten speech
eventually is restored.

On top of that, wile JAWS is in this inactive state, I can hear a lot of
activity coming from my hard drive. Yet, upon asking my sighted colleagues
if they can spot anything untoward on the screen at the time, they cannot
find a sensible rationale.

The problem usually - but not always - occurs when I've opened say Google
and I've used my arrow key to scroll down to the search field at high speed.
Once the cursor lands in the text box, my entire computer freezes up -
preventing me from proceeding any further.

At first I thought it might be a memory problem, but I've ruled that out.

If any of you kind folk are able to cast any light on this problem for me, I
would be most grateful.

Many thanks

Philip

Re: Tax Acts

Vicky Collins

Kind of experimenting, I alternated between using various screen readers with TaxACT this year, including JAWS 14. I, personally, use the download version; and, seeing as the online one has one of those annoying captcha's, I'm quite happy with my choice. I've been using this software since 2003. And, Dave is certainly correct about the accessibility improving, as those JAWS scripts we once had to use are no longer needed.

If you're not in love with Turbo Tax, you might want to try instead Tax
Acts. Even their CD version (executable download) is accessible with JAWS.
Costs about $20 to do both federal and state taxes with e-filing.

I've used it for several years, and the accessibility has gotten better over
time, right out of the box with JAWS.

Hi Lauren,

I am unsure about the answer to the check for upgrade option, but I can help
with your query on managing contacts in Outlook 2010.

You can go to contacts by pressing CTRL + 2. Alternatively, you can also add
a sender's contact to your address book by going to the from field in the
message window, opening the application menu by pressing the application key
or SHIFT + F10 and choosing the Add to Address Book option.

Hope this was helpful.

If you use eBay very much, I wouldn’t get IE 10.

I sent this issue to Freedom Scientific.

The problem is with searches.

If you have search results with a large number of items, Jaws becomes totally unresponsive.

If you have a serch that returns, say twelve items, then, no problem.

Doubtless, others can give you more feedback than me.

Apostrophe saying twice?

Brandon Keith Biggs <brandonkeithbiggs@...>

Hello,
For some reason my apostrophe ' is being said 3 times when there are only two. When I have:
this is a 'hat' that I wear, I have 2 apostrophes at the last apostrophe. So it sounds like:
This is a apostrophe hat apostrophe apostrophe that I wear.
This gets really annoying when I have something like:
['apple' 'orange' 'cheese' 'pizza' 'milk' 'orange']
I've reset my punctuation level to default in the configurations manager, but I'm not sure what else would be doing this. The default settings seems to be saying apostrophe twice!...
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

Re: JAWS 14 Freezing with Outlook 2010

Yes,

I seem to be encountering this as well.
I am using Windows 7 64 Bit and Jaws 14.
I also have Jaws 13 on this laptop and didn't notice the same amount of
freezing incidents.

Hello,

I am currently running JAWS 14 and Outlook 2010. JAWS 14 will freeze with
Outlook 2010, but JAWS 13 does not. Has anyone else ran into this problem?
Thank You,
Sharon
