Re: Irratic Behavior With Jaws

Hi John,

Have you tried unloading Jaws with the keystroke, Insert, Windows Key, + F4
& then reloading Jaws again? I seem to recall having this same problem with
my desktop computer & using the previously mentioned keystroke helped most
of the time but, not all the time. 1 thing about using this keystroke is it
creates a mini dump file that FS can look at & possibly see something wrong.
Are you running the latestJ14 update? I ask because something cleared up
this thing with Jaws 14 not wanting to restart / reload after unloading it &
it seems like it was the installation of the latest update that did it.

HTH

Take care.
Mike

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I start again
JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and I will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off and start
again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.

Re: DoItBlind.com to script a new application

Andre Jarreau <andre.jarreau@...>

To John Martyn, or anyone who might know.

Is there scripting for music applications used for orchestral arrangements?
I am trying to write music that could be printed and given to an symphony
orchestra to play. Also is there anything for Masterwriter for lyric and
melody writing?

The last time I looked at Cake Talk with Sonar it wouldn't quite fully do
these things.

Hi John

Microsoft Works has always amazed me why it does not work. I am not sure
if it is still shipped with new computers these days but I know it always
used to be. I have a version of it on this 3 year old hp windows 7
laptop.

I would ideally like the office suite but the amount I would use it really
does not warratnt paying for it.

I use the database on Microsoft works which jaws handles to a fashion and
enables me to use it quite well, but I have no luck with the spreadsheet
side of the program something simple as tabbing between cells just does
not work.

I am pretty sure there are not many people out there using this program,
but I felt that to someone who knows what what they are doing could make
this a lot better than what it is now.

Hi all,

In continued pursuit of scripting new applications, as always, I ask what
we
need to be accessible or more accessible. Quickbooks is indeed being
scripted already and have teamed up with MyBlindSpot.org and others to
make
this happen. Quicken and turbo tax is in the future, but I am looking for
a
much needed application. I have done many music related scripts, and all
your suggestions are being taken into consideration. I am not too familiar
with sound editors and all that you can do with the current ones. Keep in
mind that we cannot script web applications or web sites.

I was considering scripting open office for those that can't afford
Microsoft office and give a solution to those who can't afford Microsoft
office. Smaller applications that do simple tasks might not make the cut
since very few people will use them. Other programs such as virus and
spyware protectors Are out of the question since they change too much.

So, I'm opening up the floor for discussion.

Let's hear some suggestions!

It seems so obvious, but you don't mention here whether you re-enter your

Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried a refresh with JAWS
key+escape? How about pressing alt+tab to move away from the screen,
release, and then alt+tab again to return to the screen?

Google reader not loading additional entries

Cristóbal

Hello list,

So I know that Google reader will be giving up the ghost in a few months,
but as of right now, I'm still using it heavily. I recently have encountered
an issue with Reader and was wondering if other users have experienced this
issue to or what I may do to fix it.

Since I subscribe to a lot of rss feeds, I have the webpage to refresh
automatically under the web settings for Jaws (latest version) and with page
refresh command insert+escape, I can quickly have more feeds show up
constantly instead of having to find and press the next button on the page.
This is how I've been doing it for a very long while and it's always worked
fine in both IE9 and Firefox.

A week or so ago, I noticed that doing the insert+escape no longer loaded
additional items in IE and as I would zip down the page with the h quick key
for headings, I would be cycled back to the top. Even when I would click on
the next button. This wasn't too big of an issue since I use Firefox as my
default browser and only sometimes use IE.

Starting yesterday though, I began to come across the same behavior of
Reader only loading 20 or so messages and the insert+escape command having
no impact with Firefox. The next button seems to work, but only to a point.
If a particular feed or folder has a high number of entries, the next button
will only work a few times and nothing will be loaded beyond forty or fifty
entries.

I don't recall changing any settings either on my system or to Jaws for
anything like this to change so I'm at a loss as to what to do to be able to
continuously load more rss entries.

If anyone's experienced this problem too and if they've been able to figure
out a solution, I'd sure love to hear it. For the time being, I've been
zipping through my feeds through my iPhone and iPad. As convenient as that
is however, there are times where I'd like to be able to do the same on my
computer with Jaws.

Thanks,

Never tried the Mirc with Speech programme....never had a problem with the mIRC client out of the box, although the setup dialogue boxes are a little weird. I guess maybe Mirc With Speech would be easier....perhaps I'll try it sometime.

Last I knew, mIRC with Speech is still the only one worth even trying.
It's easy to set up, but because it has many good features, it's a
little complex to use. But if you're a dedicated IRC'er, you'll get
the hang of it.

My computer seems to be running OK. However, I keep getting a message that
says Windows has detected a hard disk error. I am running carbonite, so
that should take care of backup.

The one program I know about is chkdsk/f. I had to run it as part of my
boot up. It doesn't give me a report. I just end up where I usually do,
and I'm still getting the same error message.

Does anyone know of a program I can use to try to find and correct whatever
problem, if any, I have? The famous Norton Disk Doctor is no more, and
there's a plethora of freeware.

Abby

Re: Demystifying Firefox Bookmarks

Steve Matzura

Sorry, it didn't. Where have all the bookmarks gone that were imported
from Internet Explorer when I installed FF in the first place?
Sometimes they're visible, sometimes not. I thought they would appear
under "Unsorted bookmarks". I found out that they appear under the
bookmarks menu tree branch. Very odd, but they're all there.

Hi, Steve. Here's what I did when I first installed Firefox. I went to
bookmarks with shift Control B. Then I tabbed over to All Bookmarks and
opened it by using Right Arrow. Then I arrowed down past the toolbar. Here
you can make a folder by pressing the Alt key and arrowing down to Make New
Folder. I called my folder General. Under this folder I placed all my
bookmarks. After that, all I had to do to look at my bookmarks is Control
Shift B. Tab to All Bookmarks. Then press the letter G to open General
Bookmarks. Now that it is open, I can just arrow down through all the
bookmarks.

I hope this helps you.

Could somebody please explain to me how to navigate bookmarks in
Firefox version 18 with at least JAWS 13? I know to start you press
Shift+Control+B, but then what? I can find the Unsorted Bookmarks
branch of the tree view, but then what? How do I find all the stored
Bookmarks after that? This used to be so easy in Internet Explorer.
There's probably some trick I'm missing.

Re: How to work on MS office on a Mac

Steve Matzura

I am by no means an expert on this subject, but I'm happy to tell you
what I know. Hope it helps you.

The operating system for Macintosh computers, called OSX, is not the
same as the operating system that runs on computers using Microsoft
Windows. Therefore, no program that works in Windows will work in OSX.
However, as was said, you can install the Windows operating system
onto a Macintosh computer in one of two ways: (1) You can "share" the
computer between the two operating systems while it's running. That's
the VMWare approach. (2) You can use an OSX program called Boot Camp
to install Windows next to, or "side by side," with OSX and, when you
start your Macintosh computer, choose whether to boot OSX or Windows.
The good part of the second choice is that no parts of the
computer--memory, mostly--are shared between the two operating
systems. The good part about choice 1 is that your computer will boot
the Macintosh operating system and, by pressing one key combination,
you can switch back and forth between Windows and OSX all you like.
The bad part about this choice is that the Windows operating system
has to share some of the Macintosh's memory and access to some parts
of the computer, and it doesn't always share these things well. For
instance, some driver software becomes dedicated to OSX and cannot be
shared with Windows that runs at the same time. But if you don't need
these devices, the "virtual machine" approach might be good for you.

Hello all,

I noticed that a few of you are using Mac. I was curious to know how are you
all using JAWS on a Mac. I understand that JAWS does not work on OS 10.
Also, I think that MS Office suite developed for Mac is inaccessible with
Apple's voiceover. If my understanding is correct, How are you all able to
work on MS Office on a Mac?

I am thinking of buying a Mac, and so am eager to hear from you.

Apoorv

I've always wondered why Works has never been scripted. It seems to be
thrown in for free on computers and might prove useful for folks who can't
afford MS Office. I have it on my XP netbook. One problem would be which
version to look at for scripting. I don't know how often it's updated.

Hi John

Microsoft Works has always amazed me why it does not work. I am not sure if it is still shipped with new computers these days but I know it always used to be. I have a version of it on this 3 year old hp windows 7 laptop.

I would ideally like the office suite but the amount I would use it really does not warratnt paying for it.

I use the database on Microsoft works which jaws handles to a fashion and enables me to use it quite well, but I have no luck with the spreadsheet side of the program something simple as tabbing between cells just does not work.

I am pretty sure there are not many people out there using this program, but I felt that to someone who knows what what they are doing could make this a lot better than what it is now.

Hi all,

In continued pursuit of scripting new applications, as always, I ask what we
need to be accessible or more accessible. Quickbooks is indeed being
scripted already and have teamed up with MyBlindSpot.org and others to make
this happen. Quicken and turbo tax is in the future, but I am looking for a
much needed application.

Hi, you can try the bsc talking clock, it have a basic reminder system
among other clock features, its only 19 dollars, and what I like about
it is that once the reminder come, it will pop up no matter what you
do and wich program you in, and you can choose if you want your jaws
to announce the reminder text or if it must be spoken by the program,
wich uses any SAPI5 voice. Its easy to use and you can easily get to
the system tray icon by deticated build in keystroaks to assure you
get to it quickly. If you need a more advanced reminder they also have
such thing, its all at www.blindsoftware.com
