Being stuck in demo mode is a nightmare.

Having to wait until Monday is a total pain. I don't know of any emergency reset option or after hours help at Freedom Scientific. I think I would gladly pay, if I had to, to secure an authorization -- if I really needed it. I can just imagine being in the middle of a major transaction requiring work over the weekend and having this happen? Of course, that may exactly be your situation. If I remember correctly, demonstration mode runs for 30 minutes. To limp through, I'd try the following, though I only know one of these will work. 1. At minute 28, unload JAWS and then load again. If this won't work, I'm hoping someone who knows will say so. 2. At minute 28, log-out and then log-in again. That's better and faster than a restart, and it may be good enough for the JAWS demo timer. Again, I don't know whether this will work. 3. At minute 28, reboot. I know this will work, but what an enormous pain. The only other lawful option I can think of is to download and fire up NVDA. I had to do this once on a borrowed laptop. The NVDA commands closely parallel those of JAWS, and although NVDA is a poor substitute if you need anything remotely fancy, you can get by until Monday doing rudimentary tasks. There is one other option, but it's illegal, and I'm not going there.

Subject: RE: [Bulk] RE: [Bulk] yet another problem with JAWS Hi, I have JFW 11 installed on this machine also. I didn't uninstall it, just JFW 12, and tried to go back to the previous version of JFW 12 before the latest update, but that's when I ran into the problem of it not reading anything in internet explorer. I had no idea it would be so complicated to just go back to a previous version. Had I known the latest version didn't work correctly with flash content, I never would have updated in the first place. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of Farfar on Laptop Sent: Thursday, August 11, 2011 3:29 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. Subject: Re: [Bulk] RE: [Bulk] yet another problem with JAWS Terra, Do you still have JAWS 11? If so, completely remove JAWS 12, and then do an install of JAWS 11. After a reboot, do a clean install of the version of JAWS 12 that you want to use. I had to do this total exorcism to get back to JAWS 12.0.525 after FS screwed up Excel 2007. Yes, I know all you listers are sick and tired of hearing me complain about Excel 2007. However I use it in my job 4 out of 8 hours a day, and since the "J" in JAWS is supposed to mean "Job" I find it rather important to emphasize that point to FS via this forum. Think "Job" not "Junk". Subject: Re: [Bulk] RE: [Bulk] yet another problem with JAWS Terra, Now you've confused me. If you wanted to be using version 12.0.522, then why did you check for updates? That would download 12.0.1669 and you're back where you started. Turn off the automatic update feature in the JAWS Options/Basics dialog and stay with the version you install (in your case 12.0.522). And like David earlier I don't understand the role that Flash plays in your decision to go back to 12.0.522. I then uninstalled it, re-installed jfw 12.0.522 and when I checked for updates it installed the latest version again, and now it reads in internet explorer, but I'm still having the problem with flash content. I really want to be using the previous version, but I have no idea why it is not reading in internet explorer. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of Farfar on Laptop Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2011 11:01 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. I personally find that repugnant. When I re-installed 12.0.525 I re-copied my previous user settings after installing, so that I did not lose any of my customized files. I say keep both during install and then overwrite with a backup copy of your previous set of files from your user settings. I reverted back to version 12.0.522 because of my annoying problem with flash with the latest version, but now when I go to internet explorer and try to do anything JFW won't read anything. I can't see links, it won't read text, nothing. I can do an insert f7 to get to the links list box, but I can't see anything on the page. Tabbing doesn't work either. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've made sure it was in full screen and did a jaws refresh. JFW 11 doesn't seem to have this problem. Thanks for any help. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... IE 9 Questions With Jaws 12
Daniel McGee <venables134@...>
Hi all, I would like to ask a couple or more questions regarding the use of Jaws 12 and IE9.
1. Currently I have Jaws Version 12.0.525 and I know there is a newer build but I don't know the number but my point is if I upgrade to this newer build of Jaws 12, will it support IE9 before the new build came out I tryed using IE9 with my current build of jaws alas to negative results in anycase I went back to IE 8. 2. On the subject of going back to a previous IE version I have forgotten how to do it so I am asking if I go ahead and upgrade to IE9 and it doesn't work with the new build of Jaws 12, how do I rroll back to IE 8. Also if I do upgrade to IE 9 my 1st question normally is it faster than the previous one in this case IE8 and is there anything that I should be aware of while performing the upgrades. Oh I almost forgot does IE9 have the dreaded ribbons. Just so you all know I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I look forward to hearing from all you jaws users! Thanks Daniel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.the-jdh.com/pipermail/jfw_lists.the-jdh.com/attachments/20110813/e2b3c4b6/attachment.html>

For the most part if you know your hot keys from XP you can do pretty well with W7. I like W7 and particularly enjoy the way it goes out to find drivers for equipment you plug in. Really slick. I use Office 2007 and MS Outlook for my email because i have used Outlook for what seems forever. The ribbons in Office 2007 are not all that bad once you take the time to play around with them. Some things are easier and others are a nightmare. (LOLLLOLLLOL) Cy, The Anasazi
