IE10, Windows 7 and JAWS 14

Adrian Spratt

The other day I posted an alert that Microsoft will be installing IE10 to
Win7 systems via automatic updates. I said I'd contacted Freedom Scientific
to inquire about JAWS compatibility and any training materials. FS's Tracey
Jackson has just sent the following reply:

As long as you are using the JAWSR screen reading software version 14.0
release, we know of no issues with this release with the Internet Explorer
10 browser.

Currently, there is no documentation available from the Freedom Scientific
Blind/Low Vision Group regarding using Internet Explorer 10.

Hello Patrick,

I have tried Sandboxie and found it real difficult. It says it can optimize
itself for AVG my antivirus software but it just ended up making it harder
to operate my computer and AVG was just one of a couple of applications that
were affected by the installation of Sandboxie on my computer. My suggestion
is if you try it make sure you have created a good system restore point so
when things get strange you can remove Sandboxie and restore your computer
back to what it was.

Hello fellow groupies,
My name is Patrick and I subscribe to a freeware news letter called
Gizmo's Freeware. They recently sent me a message with a new malware
defender called "sandboxie" and I needed to know if anyone has dealt with
said program with jaws? They make this program sound simpler than it
obviously is; however, I just wanted to look into this one. I now use
Microsoft security essentials as well as super anti-spyware and am not even
convinced I would need any more protection...
This "sandboxie" sounds real good, but I want to be cautious as we
should be in any case, right?

Thanks so much, Patrick...

Hi I have downloaded IE10 with W7. The only problem has been on EBay
searching, had to be reduced to 25 items from 200. With 200 items my
computer just ran and never pulled in the page, I did not have this problem
with IE9. After that IE10 is fine and faster. I do not like the reduction,
but I can live with it.

Encouraging, but also curious, that IE10 feels a lot like IE9. Here are
three changes that concern me:

1. IE10 maintains a list of approved websites using flash. I hope all the
websites where I rely on flash are approved.

2. The URL bar is said to be smaller and even capable of disappearing. Do
you notice that behavior? If so, is it a problem?

3. IE10 is reported to drop favorites in favor of pinning sites to the start
screen. This sounds incredibly cumbersome.

Any thoughts?

I've just learned that IE10 will be automatically downloaded to Win7
systems. I know it is already incorporated into Win8. Even so, is it fully
accessible? Or should I block the MS automatic updates download of this
browser upgrade?

Does FS have a help item on IE10 that is available to JAWS 14/Win7 users?

CSUN 2013 Interviews

Gary King

When I was working, I attended the various assistive technology conferences as part of my job. Now that I've been retired for several years, I attend them by listening to as many audio interviews as I can find. The advantages are that it's free, and I don't have to take off my shoes at the airport!

I haven't listened to all of these interviews yet, so I hope there's at least one about JAWS to keep George happy.

Go to:

http://streams.serotek.com/radio.mp3.m3u

to listen to SPN Radio's coverage, or to:

http://blindbargains.com/

Search for CSUN to find their audio interviews.

Hi List.

I'm trying to find whereabouts in the synthesiser settings I go to have a
look at what is set for the default in regard to number processing. When I
bring up numerical processing in the settings centre, I see that controlled
by the synthesiser is an option, but I can't for the life of me find the
appropriate area in JAWS to alter this!

I don't think I've explained myself very well here, but if anyone thinks
they've got the gist of it, I'd appreciate some guidance.

Many thanks.

While your procedure is flawless, its results are not. I am having the
same problem in 13. No matter what setting I choose, numbers of five
or more digits continue to be pronounced as single digits.

Hi Darran,

Try the following:
1. Go into the Settings Center with , Insert + 6, on the number row above
the main keyboard & then, control, shift, + D, for the default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, Text Processing, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Number & Date Processing, & right arrow to open.
4. Arrow down to, Number Processing, controlled by synthesizer, & press the
spacebar to toggle your way through the options. Keep pressing the
spacebar
until you hear Jaws report the setting you want. You can also press the,
F6
key, & there will be a list box you can up or down arrow to your choice.
5. After you've made your selection tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab
to
okay, press the spacebar to save your changes & close the Settings Center.

Take care.

Subject: Synthesiser Number Processing

Darran

Kevin,

Can't help you, then. Do not know exactly what you're describing.

BTW Eudora is not an Apple product.

I’m not sure if this is from a jaws keystroke but one of my folders the
contents list group box collapse or expanded. and it list one of those
with each of the icons I have. so I would have double the items in the
folder. how do I remove that cuz I know I pressed something unknowingly.
email is golden!

I'm running windows 8 and Internet explorer 10 works fine. I don't think
you'll have any trouble. If you already run nine, your good I'd say. Ten
feels a lot like nine.

Adrian,

Thanks for the heads-up. Of course I know you'll give us a copy of the FS
response, whatever it may be.

A fellow lister has just alerted me to this development. Here's a link to
the Kim Komando article on the subject, followed by the text of my query to
FS tech support.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/

I've just learned that IE10 will be automatically downloaded to Win7
systems. I know it is already incorporated into Win8. Even so, is it fully
accessible? Or should I block the MS automatic updates download of this
browser upgrade?

Does FS have a help item on IE10 that is available to JAWS 14/Win7 users?
