Hi John,

I don't know anything about Nero, but if you are looking for CD/DVD burning
software that works with JAWS try out BurnAware. It's free and I have used
it with JAWS 14 and Windows 7 64 bit and JAWS 13 Windows 7 32 bit.

Strictly for Narrator, because I can't stand the default Anna. As Soronel

Re: Outlook 2003 with JAWS 14

Adrian Spratt

In the three-month-old thread below, the question was whether Dave Carlson's
application key method of reaching an email attachment in Outlook 2003 and
2007 still works in 2010. The last post was from Dani, who described her
method of managing Outlook 2010 email attachments, and it implied that
Dave's no longer works.

I'm sorry to confirm that, yes, the applications key method no longer
works. I learned about it for the first time in this thread, so I had only
three months to benefit from it before switching to Outlook 2010.

The one addition I'd make to Dani's technique is that once you land on an
the attachment field with shift-tab, you can arrow through the attachments,
if there is more than one, and press enter on the one selected to open or
save. No need to go into the ribbon, at least for those two operations.

Hi, Ed and Dave.
I'm using Win7 64-bit with Outlook 2010, and haven't made the shift to JFW14
yet.
When I ctrl+shift+o in an open message, JFW says there are no objects to
display.
If the message has attachment(s), I can shift+tab to get to the attachments
list. When I select the attachment I want, shift+F10 gets me to the ribbon,
and the tab I land on is called Attachments. Arrow down to the Actions
submenu, and find options to open, save, print, or remove the attachment.
HTH,
Dani

OK.
I'm obviously confused.
In Outlook 2003, if, while in a message, I press control + shift + O, the
message is converted to plain text, and the embedded messages are moved up
to the attachment box. Then, one can press shift + tab to land on the
attachments. From there, one can open the message attachments. That, I
think, is what Ann is describing.
I thought Ted was saying one can no longer do that in Outlook 2010.
Actually, I'm due to get Outlook 2010 this weekend. So, I'll try all the
keystrokes suggested here and then report.
Speculation is fun, but actually testing in the actual program tends to
produce more reliable results. <SMILE>
I thought it was in one of the Hadley seminars that I heard Dave's method of

pressing the App key in the message list no longer produces an applications
menu with attachments displayed. Perhaps that referred to 2010 only and not

to 2007 and 2010.

Beg to differ. This is exactly the way I've done it with Outlook 2007 with
versions of JAWS all the way back to 11. I'm using Windows 7, if that helps
to clear the discrepancy.

Pressing the Apps key (or Shift+F10) opens a context menu with "View
Attachments submenu" as the choice with the hotkey "H".

Adrian,

Yes, I recall that with my copy of Outlook 2007 it also requires that I
right click (or Apps key) and select open to open attachments. I think this
has been in place since JAWS 12, but not certain at this point. However you
can also open the attachments from the message list:

Highlight the message with the attachment.
Right click or Apps key.
"H" for attachment.
Press enter on the desired attachment from the context menu.

I find this a lot faster than opening the message first, when I don't need
to see the message body text for context.

I will be reporting in another couple weeks on an ongoing experiment I'm
running with JAWS, Windows 7 and Office 2007. Very interesting things
happening -- or perhaps not happening any more.

Stay tuned.

Hi. A friend whose law firm still uses Outlook 2003 installed JAWS 14 the
other day and found that she could no longer open email attachments as
easily as she had done before. Instead of just pressing enter to open one,
she now has to right-click, then go to open and then press enter. Only two
more steps, yes, but a nuisance when it's a task we perform dozens of times
every day.

However, here's the reason I'm posting this message. She contacted FS Tech
Support and was told that JAWS 14 does not support Outlook 2003.

If anyone has a different experience, I'd be curious. Otherwise, this is an
FYI to any listers who, like me, still live in the pre-ribbon era.

I guess I can understand that, some folks don't want to bother with
design issues. Contests are, by nature, fast and furious, and
most programs are designed to streamline the process. Some of them do
everything except make the contact for you; I think that's on the agenda
for next year.

It's a ready-made data base, which is part of the problem.

I can't figure out how or why Jaws can read the labels if they are

But, that seems to be the case, which is why it is so difficult to

Tom, is this a ready-made database, or do you roll your own? I
presume
it's the former. The only logging file I've ever used is one I
cooked up

Still, you might want to check the anti-virus you're using.

Hi,
Press JAWS-key+F4 to close your current JAWS session.
Press windows-key+R to open 'run dialog' and type jaws14 and press enter.
This should work for you.
When JAWS14 runs probably startup wizard is going to work if not you need to switch to JAWS window and open help menu where you can open this startup wizard and tune-up your JAWS there.

Yes, I agree. In some respects, I am a little surprise, especially since
the iPhone really caters to the visually impaired. iTunes does work right
out of the box with Jaws, even though there is a script that makes it more
user friendly. I would have expected that iCloud would have been more
accessible as well. I think iCloud is a great idea but it has it
limitations without being able to use it with Jaws.

Hi List,

I am using Jaws 14, latest build on a Windows 7, 64 bit computer.

Is anyone having any success editing contacts using iCloud. I can do the
changes on the iPhone, but would find it much easier and faster if I could
make those changes on my computer.

I can get to the tabs if I route jaws to the pc with the insert key and the
minus key on the number keypad. Then I have to use the left mouse button to
click the contact tab to view the names and numbers on my iPhone.

What I have not yet figured out, is how to do the editing and save the
changes. Jaws and iCloud do not seem to be compatible or at least, easily
compatible.

I would like to hear from anyone who is able to do the editing from their
computer even if it requires getting some other software to make those
changes.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kimsan,

Well, if you didn't get a chance to read my follow-on, I must confess to
iPhone/SIRI sickness. I dictated this message in a car, and did not have
time, nor the patience, to make all the corrections necessary to the mangled
interpretation of my carefully-enunciated words. And we were about to arrive

over again.

In any case jealous function was supposed to be JAWS function. And then I
think the rest sort of makes sense.

Voice recorder cards can hold a series of short messages, the kind which usually make up contest exchanges, but I was really being facetious, implying that contacts will be made with no operator intervention--tell your radio to go to it, and spend your weekend doing something else.

I guess I can understand that, some folks don't want to bother with
design issues. Contests are, by nature, fast and furious, and
most programs are designed to streamline the process. Some of them do everything except make the contact for you; I think that's on the agenda for next year.

Tom, is this a ready-made database, or do you roll your own? I
presume
it's the former. The only logging file I've ever used is one I

In Surf's Up, the instruction is for labeling forms in Html

such as web pages, so I don't know if that would work for your

you
want, and press enter.

Good luck!

Kimsan <kimsansong@...>

George,
I love your sense of humor, we would nock each other out with our Sarcasms
but you would have the advantage seeing as I cannot hear or see lol.
I set the capslock ke up on the mac a while back but I do not remember how I
did it, hints why I am the windows trainer and not the mac trainer for Blind
Access Training lol. I know how to use the mac though, just do not train on
it due to time constraints.
To answer your question, I'm ok, but seen better days lol. Don't' ask,
unless we take it off list peace sailor!
Now...? what does any of this have to do with Jaws? Just thought I would
take your life line, so now, you can call a friend.

Take care buddy.

You need software to do that mac does not let the caps lock be used for
anything so if you get key remap you can do this, but I understand that in v
m 5 when running it now releases the caps lock from mac and it can be used
as the jaws key naturally

Subject: what is the jaws key when running via remote desktop from a
mac?

I have jaws installed on my pc and I use the standard insert key for
my jaws key. I run jaws from the task bar so that I don't have an
extra dialog window to clutter up my display. If I hit INS+J, I get
the jaws context menu (options, utilities, language, etc). If I hit
INS+F4, it closes jaws.
Everything works fine.

However, I have a case where I need to remote desktop to my pc but I'm
using remote desktop on a macbook laptop. That in itself is not a
problem.
I can
run RD on the mac fine and jaws is running on the PC and I can hear
jaws speak through the macbook speakers.

The problem is the mac doesn't have an insert key. Supposedly,
Fn+Return is
equivalent to insert but that doesn't work. That is, if I try
Fn+Return+J,
that is not being treated like INS+J. I don't get the jaws context
menu.

So I tried changing the "jaws key for desktop layout" via the settings
center. The mac doesn't have a scroll lock key so I tried changing it
to caps lock. I assume that means if I hit CapsLock+J that that would
be like my old INS+J and display the context menu. It didn't work :-(

I'm sure there's some funky key combination on a mac that can mimic
the insert key, or someway to tell jaws to use a different key other
than insert (or caps lock).

Subject: Using iCloud with Jaws

Mario

Using iCloud with Jaws

M Tobia

Mario
