Chuck,

I can get to where LinkedIn tells me there are messages and notifications.
But try as I might I cannot access them. Wish I could.

Thanks

Tom,

The problems are different every time I try to use it. Several other JAWS
users I know are having problems with it as well.

I use a Dell 64 bit laptop with I5 processor, 8 meg ram and high speed
hard
drive. On it is Windows7 and Office 2010. I have been a JAWS user for
ten
years and currently have JAWS 13 latest update.

The problems with Linkedin are strange. The techs at Freedom Scientific
say
they have a lot of calls on Linkedin but do not know how to fix it.

Each time I access Linkedin it acts differently. Only once in many months
have I been able to check incoming messages. The woman who teaches JAWS
here in town can't get it to work on her systems at home or work.

Could it be that the basic linkedin set up, which is free, might be the
problem? I hate to upgrade and have it not work. What do you think?

Thanks,
Andre

Hi Andre, Can you tell us what kinds of problems you are having. I
haven't

specifics it is difficult to comment.
Could you tell us what operating system you are using and what browser you

Re: Linkedin

Ve,

Went to LinkedIn.com and could get around somewhat. However Messages and
notifications could not be accessed.

Often when receiving email announcments of individuals requesting linking I
click on the link in the body of the email to go to LinkedIn to review the
request. More often than not the accept link cannot be found. And
sometimes when clicking the link within the body of an LinkedIn email; it
goes to LinkedIn but sense cannot be made of the location within the
LinkedIn site. Sometimes hitting alt-F4 to exit out does not work. It is
baffeling.

To go to LinkedIn.com and move around seems fairly easy and mostly working
as expected. However if you are a JAWS user
Who is totally blind try signing up and using it for a month or two. Then
I think you will see what myself and others experience.

Thanks

Attaching Files using G Mail, JAWS 14 and Windows 8

To: jaws@lists.the-jdh.com

Hello:
I am relatively new to the list. For my job as a freelance
journalist, I need to re-learn, using Windows 8, Microsoft 2010 and
JAWS 14, how to attach files to my G Mail messages. I tried to use
the same procedure as I am used to, opening the file using the space
bar or enter key, but for some reason the file does not want to
attach. Is there a "new trick" to sending attachments in the new
version of Word, or JAWS or Windows? Has anyone else been struggling
with this?

Kindly:

Gregg Wandsneider.

Re: Linkedin

Adrian Spratt

Andre,

I was just Googling another question and noticed several discussions of
LinkedIn's accessibility, on the whole sounding positive. You might do a
search with terms such as LinkedIn, accessible, JAWS.

To clear up LinkedIn's purpose, it is designed to connect employers with
employees. Because resumes are posted on the site, employers can troll
through for prospects. In that context, it is also a social network, much
like Facebook. It is sometimes referred to as Facebook for professionals.

Note how the name is written, with no spaces and caps L and I: LinkedIn.

Linkedin as I know it is a socio-professionnal site. It allows networking
links you can accept or reject. It shows your resume, bio and lists for all
to see your professional-Linkedin connections. Linkedin as far as I know is
only for business and professional connections. That's not to say there
isn't a social aspect to it. But if there is I just can't get to it.

Other blind professionals I know use JAWS and need a reader to access
Linkedin. I've been using JAWS for ten years and am no stranger to the
internet and web issues. This is just one I hope can be overcome. It would
be great to find a JAWS script to make it work. Though more and more
comments received indicates no script exists.

If you have an idea, I would gladly listen.

Re: Linkedin

Dave...

Andre,

Out of curiosity I went to

www.linkedin.com

Absolutely a standard web page, so I wonder if you're using Google Chrome,
perhaps?

In any case I see nothing to indicate a "free" vs. paid version of the site,
and all the links appear to be conventional.

Could it be that the basic linkedin set up, which is free, might be the

USB Tv Tuners

Jamie Davis <jdmusicman1971@...>

Mike and Others:

I want to thank Mike for his resource that he provided in his previous
message. The link to Blind Tv may prove to be a valuable resource for audio
described television, I am still looking for an accessible tv tuner, or at
least one that would work well with JAWS, in order to watch the local tv
stations, and to recoird that programming. Case in point, my fiancé and I
like Lawrence Welk, which is re-run on our local PBS station. That show is
not streamed anywhere online, as near as I can tell. I’ve considered
getting the Avertv Hybrid Volar Max TV Tuner Kit from Amazon. Does anyone
know anything about this particular unit. According to Amazon it is a
starter kit. This means it only comes with the tuner. That’s okay as I
have Windows Mediacenter, my tv antenna, and a converter box. I also have
the coaxial cable needed to hook it altogether. I was able to find some
files on keystroke commands for Windows Mediacenter. If you happen to know
about this product, or any others like it, I’d appreciate any and all
suggestions. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Regards:

Jamie

Re: Is there a screen reader that supports Arabic?

Dr. Azim Assaf <azimab@...>

Hello Ann:

Yes, Jaws supports Arabic but it has a separate version which is for Arabic and English only. It has to be purchased separately from a Freedom Scientific dealer in the Middle East. It's a lot more expensive than what you pay for the Jaws version that supports 10 languages. Another screen reader that supports Arabic is Hal from Nattiq Technologies.

I looked in the JAWS menu under voices, synthesizer languages, and I
did not see Arabic. Did I miss it, or does JAWS not support
Arabic? If not, is there another screen reader that does?

Thanks much
