Tom,

users I know are having problems with it as well.

I use a Dell 64 bit laptop with I5 processor, 8 meg ram and high speed hard

years and currently have JAWS 13 latest update.

The problems with Linkedin are strange. The techs at Freedom Scientific say
they have a lot of calls on Linkedin but do not know how to fix it.

Each time I access Linkedin it acts differently. Only once in many months
have I been able to check incoming messages. The woman who teaches JAWS
here in town can't get it to work on her systems at home or work.

Could it be that the basic linkedin set up, which is free, might be the
problem? I hate to upgrade and have it not work. What do you think?

Thanks,

Re: Placemarkers file

Adrian Spratt

Ann,

You put me to shame. I didn't bother looking, figuring placemarkers were
buried in a file identified by its file extension. My intention is to copy
the placemarkers file, rather than delete it, and copy it into the JAWS "my
settings" folder when JAWS is installed on my new system tomorrow. I'll be
doing the same with my .jdf (dictionary) file.

Thanks.

USB Tv Tuners

Jamie Davis <jdmusicman1971@...>

Mike and Others:

I want to thank Mike for his resource that he provided in his previous
message. The link to Blind Tv may prove to be a valuable resource for audio
described television, I am still looking for an accessible tv tuner, or at
least one that would work well with JAWS, in order to watch the local tv
stations, and to recoird that programming. Case in point, my fiancé and I
like Lawrence Welk, which is re-run on our local PBS station. That show is
not streamed anywhere online, as near as I can tell. I’ve considered
getting the Avertv Hybrid Volar Max TV Tuner Kit from Amazon. Does anyone
know anything about this particular unit. According to Amazon it is a
starter kit. This means it only comes with the tuner. That’s okay as I
have Windows Mediacenter, my tv antenna, and a converter box. I also have
the coaxial cable needed to hook it altogether. I was able to find some
files on keystroke commands for Windows Mediacenter. If you happen to know
about this product, or any others like it, I’d appreciate any and all
suggestions. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Regards:

Jamie

Re: Is there a screen reader that supports Arabic?

Dr. Azim Assaf <azimab@...>

Hello Ann:

Yes, Jaws supports Arabic but it has a separate version which is for Arabic and English only. It has to be purchased separately from a Freedom Scientific dealer in the Middle East. It's a lot more expensive than what you pay for the Jaws version that supports 10 languages. Another screen reader that supports Arabic is Hal from Nattiq Technologies.

I looked in the JAWS menu under voices, synthesizer languages, and I

Arabic? If not, is there another screen reader that does?

Hi Ann
Tomorrow I will email you offlist, I just need to find the link. JAWS
could probably support arabic if you install an Arabic speech
synthesizer, but I have a link for a version of NVDA which includes a
very good Arabic woman voice. If you do have an arabic voice, you
don't change it by language, you rather go to your synthesizers and
choose sappi 5 instead of eloquence and then the arabic voice.

You want 2 hot keys: Alt-control-J for Jaws and Alt-Control-N for N.V.D.A.
It is also possible to run several instances of Jaws at the same time and together with N.V.D.A. you would have quite a cacophony of voices. Also, N.V.D.A. and Jaws read text in a slightly different order and of course, different voices. I have actually ran both and the result is very difficult to follow. I suppose one could even throw in a demo of Window Eyes, Kurzweil and Open Book to name jus a few other speech programs--just to see how many you could understand at once.

Re: Linkedin

Dave...

Actually I've been very distracted lately so do not take the time to open
messages where the subject does not "grab" me.

I've used Linked In and as far as I'm concerned, it's just one more web page
that JAWS does quite well with.

Andre, have you tried it yet? Perhaps that's all you need to do. Then if you
have specific issues with specific parts of the web interface, someone who
uses it regularly (unlike me) may have some suggestions.

SO I guess my long-winded answers are as follows: Does anyone know how to
use it? I did once quite a while ago. Does it work with JAWS? Yes. Does
anyone know? Very likely.

so far, no one who has looked at the list in the past two days uses
LinkedIn. I'm surprised, too. Have you asked Freedom Scientific about it?

Does anyone know how to use "Linkedin"?

Can Linkedin work with JAWS at all?

Does anyone know?

JAWS, WordPerfect and Windows 7

Adrian Spratt

Here's a question for the dwindling group of WordPerfect users. first, some
background.

Freedom Scientific says it supports WordPerfect through version X3. What
people report here makes me wonder, but at least we can try to hold FS to
its commitment.

Unfortunately, Corel's website states that the earliest version of WP that
works with Win7 is X5. so it would seem that JAWS users who want to continue
using WP are out of luck if we switch to Win7.

However, through Google, I've found claims that X3 works on Win7 machines in
compatible mode. these claims raise two questions:

1. Are they correct? And

2. Will JAWS work with WP X3 in compatible mode?

Can anyone with actual experience of this configuration provide any insight?
