Hi Linda,

Try this. Go to the library view. Now you should be able to arrow through the titles in your library with JAWS. When you get to the title you want, try hitting the applications key, (between the alt and the control key on the right side of the space bar.) Arrow down to "go to beginning of book" and hit enter. Now hitting control R will start the reader. And, unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to convert kindle books to any other format -- part of their proprietary licensing, etc.

Hi Linda,

Yeah, the Kindle and JAWS don't play all that well together. Amazon has designed it to work as with its own voicing. Below is the link to the list of keyboard commands to use with the accessible kindle for pc. JAWS will, however, read all the menus; alt f, predictably, will take you to the file menu, for instance. When I open kindle I often go to the library, by hitting alt G to get to the "go" menu and then arrowing down to library. Now JAWS will read the titles in your library. Entering will select that title, and Control R will begin reading. Use the Go menu again to move to table of contents, last position read, or to search for a page number. On the whole though, JAWS and Kindle are pretty clunky together. Here's the Amazon help page. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_pcland_pcaccess?n odeId=200596280&pop-up=1

if you have a number of IE10 pages opened, you could, ctrl+t=new tab, now arrow to the site address and press enter. or, you could try, alt+left arrow to go back a page. hope this helps.

Re: How to mute JAWS in a specific application

Howard, you aren't the first JAWS user to have this problem. You seem to

describe how to perform the operation just right. But to make sure, press and release the insert key and spacebar as close together as you can, pause a moment, then press s. On my system, JAWS says "Speech off," then goes silent. I repeat the keystrokes, JAWS says, "Speech on," and all's well.

Re: How to mute JAWS in a specific application

Here's the flipside of my question. It turns out I need JAWS for certain

aspects of the program, and now I want to wake up JAWS. I went back to the setting center while in that application and, guess what, JAWS won't speak to help me do it. Do I just try to replicate the steps without verbalization, or is there a less chancy method?

Subject: Re: How to mute JAWS in a specific application Hi, yes its no longer in quick settings, you can either each time you launch the app, press insert plus space, then s, and do the same thing when you exit, but the better way is to go to settings centre, then go to misilanious options, and then to sleep moad, press space til it says, enable and unload the synthesizer. Then press enter, of corse make sure that the application file for that eclips is selected in settings centre. On 10/01/2013, Adrian Spratt <Adrian@adrianspratt.com> wrote: Hi.
