The Kindle to computer app and Jaws 11

Lynda Blake <lynda.blake85@...>

Hi

I am using Jaws 11 on a 32 bit Toshiba laptop and today downloaded an app that should allow me to read Kindle books on my computer. However, unfortunately Jaws refuses to say anything but "blank" when I try to read the ebooks. Has anyone else come across this and found a way around it please?

Hope to hear from you soon.
Lynda

hello;
if you have a number of IE10 pages opened,
you could,
ctrl+t=new tab,
now arrow to the site address and press enter.

or, you could try, alt+left arrow to go back a page.

hope this helps.

I tried control tab and that did not work. I did do alt N, which someone
suggested on here, but I don't know how to get back to my original page. I
am not blaming Jaws, it's more my ignorance of Jaws 14, windows 8 & internet
explorer. It's all very new for me since I used to use XP & IE8 and Jaws 12.

Not sure why the page isn't reading, but to switch between tabs, press CTRL

Howard, you aren't the first JAWS user to have this problem. You seem to
describe how to perform the operation just right. But to make sure, press
and release the insert key and spacebar as close together as you can,
pause
a moment, then press s. On my system, JAWS says "Speech off," then goes
silent. I repeat the keystrokes, JAWS says, "Speech on," and all's well.

Hi, yes its no longer in quick settings, you can either each time you
launch the app, press insert plus space, then s, and do the same thing
when you exit, but the better way is to go to settings centre, then go
to misilanious options, and then to sleep moad, press space til it
says, enable and unload the synthesizer. Then press enter, of corse
make sure that the application file for that eclips is selected in
settings centre.

Hi
I can't help you with your problem but can give you a headsup and some
advice. Don't bother with windows messanger rather switch to sending
messages in skype. The reason I say this is because windows will be
discontinueing windows messanger and from the 15th of March it will
stop working because they want people to rather use skype.

Here's the flipside of my question. It turns out I need JAWS for certain
aspects of the program, and now I want to wake up JAWS. I went back to the
setting center while in that application and, guess what, JAWS won't speak
to help me do it. Do I just try to replicate the steps without
verbalization, or is there a less chancy method?

Hi, yes its no longer in quick settings, you can either each time you launch
the app, press insert plus space, then s, and do the same thing when you
exit, but the better way is to go to settings centre, then go to misilanious
options, and then to sleep moad, press space til it says, enable and unload
the synthesizer. Then press enter, of corse make sure that the application
file for that eclips is selected in settings centre.

Hi. I've just installed IRTI's Eclipse Pro Writer and Hovercam
primarily for scanning and performing OCR on documents. Eclipse comes
with its own synthesizers, so I need to have JAWS be silent whenever I
switch to that application.

The old methods for silencing JAWS in a specific application appear no
longer to work. One of the more recent was to use what is now the
Quick Settings Dialog, but the mute/silence option doesn't appear, at
least when I have Eclipse open. The one method I haven't yet tried
involves opening default scripts and creating an on/off speech toggle
keystroke. Even if that one still works, I'm hoping there's something
a little more obvious.

I am using JAWS 13 with XP. Any suggestions?

Hi, Addison. This doesn't cure the problem, but try this. Instead of just
using the arrows, use the JAWS-Key plus the number 8 key on the numpad. It
should read the current item. Then use the down-arrow to move to the next
item. It won't speak the item. Use the JAWS-Key again with the 8 key on the
num-pad to read that item. You should be on the second item and JAWS should
read that item when the JAWS-Key plus 8 combination is pressed. Continue
with the down-arrow key and the JAWS-Key combination as described.

I hope this works for you.

Re: How to mute JAWS in a specific application

Howard, you aren't the first JAWS user to have this problem. You seem to
describe how to perform the operation just right. But to make sure, press
and release the insert key and spacebar as close together as you can, pause
a moment, then press s. On my system, JAWS says "Speech off," then goes
silent. I repeat the keystrokes, JAWS says, "Speech on," and all's well.

Pressing insert plus space bar gives me a double click. any keystroke after
that does nothink. How can I do that wrong? What should I be doing?

Hi, yes its no longer in quick settings, you can either each time you
launch the app, press insert plus space, then s, and do the same thing
when you exit, but the better way is to go to settings centre, then go
to misilanious options, and then to sleep moad, press space til it
says, enable and unload the synthesizer. Then press enter, of corse
make sure that the application file for that eclips is selected in
settings centre.

The old methods for silencing JAWS in a specific application appear no
longer to work. One of the more recent was to use what is now the Quick
Settings Dialog, but the mute/silence option doesn't appear, at least
when
I

default scripts and creating an on/off speech toggle keystroke. Even if
that
one still works, I'm hoping there's something a little more obvious.

I am using JAWS 13 with XP. Any suggestions?

Re: How to mute JAWS in a specific application

Here's the flipside of my question. It turns out I need JAWS for certain
aspects of the program, and now I want to wake up JAWS. I went back to the
setting center while in that application and, guess what, JAWS won't speak
to help me do it. Do I just try to replicate the steps without
verbalization, or is there a less chancy method?

Hi Lauren,

Not sure why the page isn't reading, but to switch between tabs, press CTRL + 1, 2, 3 etc. depending on how many tabbed pages you have open.
