Re: Update for Windows Live Essentials

I have installed the essentials earlier, so I am already using ribbons. However, it seems that there is a new update available and that's why I wanted to make sure it works with JAWS.

Many thanks for your reply,
Gezim

Hello there;

Well, yes the latest version of windows live essentials does work with jaws
12, however, just be aware, the latest version will incorporate the ribbon,
so you'll need to learn how to navigate the menus,
Other then that? It's fine.

Hi several times now the first time I sent a message on live mail for unknown reasons forms mode is popping on and I’m not able to complete a message. I am typing along and suddenly I hear the word edit spoken and my message starts to read back and backspace says blank blank. I arrowed to my last word but instead of saying space after the last letter it stopped there. when I spaced to continue auto forms mode popped on. this is in the middle of a message. if I alt f4 my message asks me if I want to safe changes and if I say no it’s like I never did it. I have to do the message all lvoer again. this only happens on the first message when windows live mail is launched it would for example have happened by now. so is something else launching in the background when I first launch live mail? don’t notice it on NVDA so jaws is apparently picking something up thinking forms mode is needed. also windows live is giving me an update is available but I don’t see a clickable even with the jaws currsor. How do I get this update for live essentials. can I get it through windows update or any way to check essentials manually?

Re: JFW 12 with flash

inthane <inthaneelf@...>

actually it may well be there still, just hidden. not long ago I used this link to get a "no longer available" copy of an earlier jaws:
ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J12.0.525-32bit.exe
remove the blank spot where the thing gets broken in the email(if it does) then modify the numbers and bit type to what you need and give it a try.

it was exceedingly amusing I got contacted by fs on a complaint I filed, and was told there was no fix, of course, I said I figured out as much and was there to urge them to get to fixing it, and that I had downloaded an earlier version from them and removed the latest and replaced it with it. and the tech said it was not there, I said oh hell its not!, he said it was not, I said try this link (the above URL) after a couple goads he did, and the next thing I hear is "what the..." (long silence) "where did you get this information?"

Hi. I recently upgraded to the latest version of JFW, 12.0.1169. I am having
an annoying problem with a web site, and I hope maybe someone will have some
suggestions. I am trying to use slacker.com to create a radio station. In
JFW 12.0.522 the unlabeled buttons were spoken and I could activate them
with no problems. I need to be able to get to these buttons to add artists
or play stations. Unfortunately, I upgraded to the latest version of JFW,
and now the unlabeled buttons are not spoken any more. I used NVDA to see if
maybe something had changed on the slacker web page, and it has not. NVDA
will say clickable where the unlabeled buttons are, but I would like to be
able to use JFW. I no longer have the installer for the version I was
running before the upgrade, and it is no longer available on the fS web
site. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try? I am also
running the latest version of Adobe flash player 10.3, and I am using
Internet Explorer 8. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I thought Jackson had sent a blank reply, but what he/she wanted to say was
way down at the bottom, after a long and tedious read through all the older
posts and JFW links. I'd like to recommend everyone try inserting their
reply messages nearer the top of the thread so they're easier to find and
read, without having to skim down through all the earlier posts. Otherwise,
someone may think it's a blank reply and everything below is a repeat of an
earlier string of messages, and delete this so-called "blank" reply and miss
some new material. Thanks for understanding.

Terra,

That's a shame, that you can't go back to an earlier version. I've learned
through similar experience to download and save every sub-revision of JAWS
as they come available, even if I never use them. I was burned with the
revision above 12.0.525 and painfully I was able to go back.

Perhaps someone on this list has a copy and a way to send it to you.

Have you reported this to FS? Your analysis is very thorough and they could

I never understand why people post messages like this on the list. Dorothy's
email address is in the email. It probably gave away that this is a
different Dorothy. Even if it didn't, it shows how to get in touch with her.
No need to burden her by making her establish the off-list contact or to
clutter the list.

And don't forget reply to sender, JAWS key-shift-r. When it works, as it
usually does for me, it's great.

The major differences are:

1. If you can find Win 32-bit, they are harder to find.

2. Win 7 32-bit only supports 4GB of Ram or less. Win 7 64-bit
supports
way more, most machines can support either 8 or 16GB, but the
theoretical
limit is way beyond that.

3. Some of your hardware like printers and scanners may not work on
Windows 7. You need to check by going to the printer/scanner
manufacturer
site, look under support or downloads and search for Win 7 64-bit
drivers
for your specific model.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

I'm still with XP Home.

Can someone tell me what would be the major difference between Windows
7
32 bit or 64 bit?

The major differences are:

1. If you can find Win 32-bit, they are harder to find.

2. Win 7 32-bit only supports 4GB of Ram or less. Win 7 64-bit supports
way more, most machines can support either 8 or 16GB, but the theoretical
limit is way beyond that.

3. Some of your hardware like printers and scanners may not work on
Windows 7. You need to check by going to the printer/scanner manufacturer
site, look under support or downloads and search for Win 7 64-bit drivers
for your specific model.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi,
I have Jaws 12, but have reverted to Jaws 11 as 12 was crashing too
often.

I'm afraid I need to think seriously about a new computer.

I'm still with XP Home.

Can someone tell me what would be the major difference between Windows 7
32 bit or 64 bit?

Thanks.

Hi,
In HTML documents, select a graphic is CTRL+Insert+G, the same as auto
label graphic.

Now after reading your original inquiry, I admit I'm stumped. In one part
you are asking about the keyboard manager and finding the Insert+Ctrl+G
keystroke for the purpose of changing it.

That keystroke is "Auto Label Graphics" -- not select graphic.

Then you ask about navigation keys in Internet Explorer and why the
keystroke to select graphics must be so difficult.

Well in Internet Explorer the keystroke to select a graphic on a web page is
simply G. Perhaps you already know that.

There is no keystroke that I'm aware of like forms list, links, list, or
headings list to list all graphics on a web page.

Don't know how this relates to Insert+Ctrl+G, and perhaps you can illuminate
us on that point?

Hi:

I've been searching high and low for where, in Keyboard Manager, one
changes Select A Graphic from the carpal-tunnel-inducing ctrl+insert+G -- at
least on my keyboard anyway -- to something more reasonable. Select a
Link/Form Field/Frame/Heading etc. are there under IE, but no Select a
Graphic. Can anyone save my poor wrist by pointing me in the right
direction?

Apologies if this isn't a list for such questions.

Re: [Bulk] Select A Graphic.

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

This is interesting. I had begun to wonder if it was a keyboard-BIOS
thing.

I've never mentioned this on list, but alternate say all has never
worked on this Dell in my office. In the beginning I think I was able
to accomplish it with Ctrl-Say All, which most will recognize as
paragraph reading, but that hasn't worked for a while now. If you try
it the regular way, you get nothing. If you go into the Voices menu, you
get an error message, and you're lucky if JAWS doesn't crash. These
machines are about 6 years old.

Mrdin,

And that makes so little sense that I wonder who is actually in control
of
FS and their development (so-called) of JAWS. I think it's another
version
of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

Re: [Bulk] jaws not reading next msg after ctrl-d delete

Dave...

Michael,

You may benefit by updating to 12.0.1669. However go to
http://www.freedomscientific.com and check the "What's new" and
"Enhancements and Fixes" files to make sure that WLM has been covered in
releases after 12.0.525. I vaguely recall that there have been some attempts
to make things better for WLM.

However it's at the expense of screwing up Excel 2007, so be wary before you
update.
