Re: IE9 and typing web addresses

Hi Gezim,
as another David has already described, you can stop the autocomplete in most edit boxes using the autocomplete settings dialog which is opened from the content page of the Internet Options dialog.
However, one exception to this is the search edit box on the Google page - I don't know how to stop it coming up with suggestions based on previous searches.

best wishes,
David.

Hi David,

Yes, any edit box in any web page. I apologize for not being able to explain
it properly, but I really find it annoying that whenever I am about to enter
some text, and if I accidentally arrow down, it predicts the text, and I can
read, for example, all what I had searched earlier in Google.

Gezim

Re: Friend and back up program and JAWS

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

Has your friend made a Casper start up disc to boot from?
He needs to read
Creating and Using the Casper Startup Disk ................................................. on page 39 of the Casper 7 User Guide. The following sections after that even detail how to burn the start up disc using various popular disc burning applications, including Nero, Roxio etc.

Also, are you sure your friend has no way of booting from the clone drive? Have they checked the BIOS to see if they can boot from USB?
Many externals can be removed from their case and mounted internally. Have they tried this?
Casper 7's online help details many of these options, different cable types for internal hookup of a drive etc. etc.

One place to start reading is "Resolving Boot Problems", the first title under Troubleshooting. Other sections to read are "boot from the backup hard disc" "Install the Replacement Hard Disc" etc. all in online help.

Hope that helps,

Chris

I may have missed earlier, but I just noticed several Real Speak Solo
voices. I ran the tests, picked one, downloaded it, and installed it.
Clearly, I can switch to it. I don't think I want it to be my default
synthesizer. I need something more responsive, like Eloquence.
I thought there was a setting in JAWS such that when one uses the Say
All
command, the synthesizer automatically switches to a preselected
synthesizer.
In this case, for Say All, I would like to try Samantha, the Real Speak
voice that seemed the best to me.
I checked in Settings Center, but I couldn't find what I was looking
for,
namely, a place to tell JAWS what synthesizer to use in Say All.
I also checked under Voice Profiles. No joy there either. I checked
under
"Help" for synthesizer, and didn't find anything. Perhaps I'm just
dreaming
about this option. Clearly, there is a disconnect somewhere.

Daniel,

It originates from the actual mail server, which marks mail that it suspects
of being Spam. You can change your own server's propensity to do this, but
not someone else's . So when you see it, it may have come from the first
sender, or any sender in the thread.

Removing manually is a real pain, and I never bother.

I just add [bulk] into the JAWS dictionary and have a blank space in the
pronounce field. Then I never hear it when the subject is being read. I also
do that with the other common [] items that show up on some lists.

I have my mail filters set up to first allow legitimate mail from my lists
to flow into the appropriate folders, even if the [bulk] is in the subject.
Then any remaining messages with [bulk] in the subject are dumped into a
bulk folder for me to quickly peruse and delete. Works very well.

Hi all, as you have guessed subject says it all.

I was just wanting to know since I'm not sure of the terminology of what
this means in an email concept.

I don't want too many answers because the last thing I want to do is flood
the list with the same wording etc so once I get a few answers I'll let you
all know so the thread can be stopped.

I'm sure it's obvious once someone tells me but at the moment I haven't got
a clue! LOL

Many Thanks

Blind Tunes for Jaws and iTunes script

John Martyn

For those that haven't kept up, the latest version of iTunes 10.4 is now compatible with jaws. This script is not backward compatible with iTunes 10.3 so you'll have to upgrade. Below is some of the release notes and a download link.
Ok, here it is.
It should work well with iTunes 10.4 now on windows 7 machines as well as XP systems.
Here is a list of items that have been updated:
1. Windows 7 users can now benefit from using fast forward, rewind, checkboxes, and currently playing title. On the currently playing title, it turns down the volume so you can hear it announce and turns it back up for you when done announcing. Fast forward and rewind can be held down to find your spot but keep in mind it goes fast. This is handy for books and what not.
2. The iTunes store is better, not perfect since it has some trouble switching pages. I recommend using the enter key instead of spacebar on links.
3. You now have access to something never before. This includes some smart code to assign an equalizer preset to individual tracks or groups of tracks by artist or album. It also will apply presets to your entire library based on genre in the tracks. All you need to do is go to the bottom of the list when you press
Control + Shift + Q.
This list gives you 23 different presets to choose from for that track. The next two are for artist and album. Choosing these two will assign your preferred equalizer preset to that artist or album. I recommend using the Genre preset first through your whole library, then you can set them by artist and album. Nice for enhancing music for those die hard music lovers. It might even inspire you to get some new speakers.
All you need to do is be in the track list and on that specific track for it to work.

4. The lists will automatically be switched to list view now.
5. When exiting iTunes press Alt + F4. This ensures a clean exit from the program and will not hang like it did before.
6. Checkboxes are 100% reliable and can also be used to select tracks before import to help you keep those unwanted songs out.
7. The status bar will read correctly now.

I think that's it, so give me a list of bugsas you go. I will be going to the Blind Rehab Center in Palo Alto, California for a couple weeks so I'll be brewing up some new awesome code to introduce to blind tunes to help manage your library such as scripts to take out those dead tracks in your library among others. I will have my laptop and be introducing this program to the blind there and getting more veterans involved as I myself was in the Marines.
Here's the link to download:
http://www.BlindTunes.net/BlindTunesBetaR43.exe
Take care,
John Martyn

Thanks a bunch, Dave. I just sent it home, but will not bother with it now, for all the reasons yu stated. Too bad, though, as it remains a good idea. In the old days I always included a copy of my screenreader on a rescue or boot disk, so I could get out of whatever jam I was in. Ah, nostalgia! All it took then was undoing whatever change I had just made.

All,

I'm not going to use this registry file on any computer I own for the
following reasons:

1. It was not stated but is written in the readme file that this is only for
Windows 7.
2. The readme file is so pporly written that I just don't trust the author
if they can't take the time to write coherently (that's prejudice I know,
but that's the way I judge people -- the way they write).
3. Visiting this person's MySpace page causes me great concern over their
outlook on life, in particular a song on the play list with the title:
"Donald Duck - **** you in the ***"

I've deleted this zip file from my computer and would not take a chance
screwing up my registry with it.

You decide on your own if you think it's worth the risk.

Spencer McLean <smclean@...>

Hi Mike:

I, like you, am running XP with IE8 and Jaws+10. I don't have any knowledge for you on Windows 7 and how it behaves there. I think I do know what happened though.

It looks like these CTRL+INSERT+g, z, r, etc. commands are Jaws scripts that have been plunkd into IE. I found them by playing around with the Jaws key describer. and there's code for them in virtual.jss. So maybe someone wrote them up and just forgot or neglected to document them. Anyway, suggest to him to try it in IE. If that doesn't work, maybe you can throw him your virtual.jss and default.jkm files and see if that helps. Here's the list of files in which there's a reference to the SelectAGraphic script:

common.jsm
Default.JKM
Default.JKM
Default.JSB
Default.JSS
Virtual.jsb
Virtual.jsd
Virtual.jss
Virtual.jss

Good luck,

Hi Dave:

I see your confusion. In Default.JKM, ctrl+insert+G is auto select
graphics; I see that now. Whatever auto label graphics is... But if
you're in
IE, and you're on a webpage with graphics, CTRL+INSERT+G pulls up a list
of
graphics you can surf to on the page, just like INSERT+F5, F6 and F7 do
for
forms, links, headings, etc. and just like CTRL+INSERT+Z, X, R pull up
lists
of divisions, checkboxes, radio buttons. I can't find any of these
keystrokes
in any of the .JKMs.

Might've caused confusion by calling it Select A Graphic, but that's
the
title of the list box that's pulled up with CTRL+INSERT+G.

So just to be ultra clear, in IE, CTRL+INSERT+G creates a list box of
all the available graphic links on the page. And I'd like to be able to
re-task that to something else. But it, along with its brethren,
CTRL+INSERT+Z, X, R, Q, C, P, and O, aren't in default.jkm, or
Internet-explorer.jkm, at least not that I can see. I checked the other
logical .JKMs too and I didn't see them. But they have to be somewhere!

the subject says it all, when I am in windows-live-mail in windows 7 and using jaws 12, I used to hear the reading of the next msg automatically when I
hit ctrl-d to delete one. now, all of a sudden in the last couple of days, when I hit ctrl-d to delete a msg, I then have to hit insert-escape to refresh
the screen before it will read the next msg? any one else seen this?

Folks,

This is the final word on this topic. Roughly translated: you have a problem
with what's said here, it goes to me privately or you find yourself
moderated.
1: This is not a JAWS issue. He was asking how to sign up for Skype, which
has nothing to do with the program's interactions with JAWS in any way,
shape or form. This is a how-to question related to the usage of a
particular program that is not relevant to its compatibility with JAWS.
2: I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Just because you use JAWS in
conjunction with a program does not a JAWS issue make. Because you use JAWS
on your computer does not mean any computer question is valid, as one person
on this thread has incorrectly stated. That's what lists like BlindTech are
for.
3: The copping of attitude stops. Right here, right now. I don't care what
your name is. You feel like getting snippy, you do it somewhere else. You
wanna do it here, I'll block you from posting until you've thought better of
your decision. Most of you are adults. Act it.

Now, kill this thread, and let's get back to mature discussion of actual,
relevant issues. Anyone has questions or complaints, I'll hear them
*off-list*.

Hey friend,
Feel better now that you "Vented"?

I think anyone trying to use Skype with JAWS like I do has a perfect right
to ask for help on this list!

Why not start your own list if you want to be a "Mod"!

That way you can "Vent" your frustrations all you want!

But I doubt if anyone will be on your list if you act that way!

For the uneducated.
1. your question does not relate to skype's interaction with jaws, it
related to the signing up with skype, witch is beyond the scope of this
mailing list.
2. Again, skype talking is also not a topic for this mailing list.
3. my behavior, I've seen more off topic messages on this list of the past
month, I'm surprised the moderators haven't moderated everyone of you
until
you learn to keep things on topic.

thanks, I did finally find a message with the URL in it and was able to download the file.

I was behind quite a bit due to my computer growing a head with horns and fangs! it tried to take a bite out of me, but got a couple programs instead.
that was another set of frustrations, I managed to beat the thing into submission, make sure there was no disk damage, and get stuff reinstalled. so I'm getting caught up now, or I should be by end of the day near enough.

I am running XP, IE8, & Jaws10, 11, & 12 & the control, insert, + G, does as
advertised. But, I told someone about this keystroke who is running
Windows7 & IE9 & the keystroke started the auto graphics label function. Is
this keystroke supposed to work in IE9 as well? All input will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much, take care.

Re: [Bulk] Select A Graphic.

Mike & Barbara In Arcadia <mb69mach1@...>

Hi Spence,

I am running XP, IE8, & Jaws10, 11, & 12 & the control, insert, + G, does as
advertised. But, I told someone about this keystroke who is running
Windows7 & IE9 & the keystroke started the auto graphics label function. Is
this keystroke supposed to work in IE9 as well? All input will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much, take care.
Mike

Re: [Bulk] CTRL + up arrow, CTRL + down arrow, JAWS has funny behavior

Dave...

Rik,

No, it's not funny at all, and yes I suffer through the same pain. These
keystrokes broke some time in the past and have not worked reliably for
quite a while.

I'm currently still fixated with JAWS 12.0.525 and refuse to move ahead
until they release the next major version. Fixing things like that in the
sub-releases is not a priority.

to my Audio Recording and Mixing Studios, San Francisco Bay Area. But I'll
try to remedy that situation.

Subject: [Bulk] CTRL + up arrow, CTRL + down arrow, JAWS has funny behavior

They still say it is the same for Standard Windows Keystrokes in Help Topics
CTRL + UP and CTRL + DOWN

In My JAWS 12, using both Windows 7 or XP machines
In a rich text or or plain text whether it is in an email or in a Wordpad
file I have funny results. Do you?

When I use CTRL + up arrow to read the previous paragraph.
Or when I use CTRL + down arrow to read the next paragraph.

I will find that instead of reading the next paragraph, instead JAWS will
just speak the entire text from the top of the file or top of the email
messages.

I can stop it and read a line at a time and it works just fine.
but using my old reliable CTRL + UP and CTRL + DOWN, I am often irritated by
this behavior.

I could say that it is similarly funny behavior when trying ALT + UP and ALT
+ DOWN to read a sentence at a time.
But I will just leave it there.

Is there a suggestion or a fix?
Or am I just an individual who is the only one to whom this is occurring?

One note. This does not seem to happen when navigating my text on a web page
or in a Microsoft Word document.
Just in Wordpad and in my Email messages using Windows Live Mail of a rich
text or plain text type of message.

Thanks.
Rik
