First.
Skype account creation is done from within skype, there is no need to go to
the skype website.
secondly, skype talking has nothing to do with jaws, so take that discussion
somewhere else.

Hi, Mike.

Did you run the file? I can't find any third-party information about it.
Also, as Dave notes, the documentation mentions only Windows 7. I'm wary of
installing a little program like this into my XP registry.

Re: IE8 and IE9 crashing with Jaws 12

Hi Chris,
I think you may be right about the older computer.

Mine is an XP Home, and I keep babying it along.

I guess the disparity between computer systems that Jaws is trying to span these days may be asking a lot.

It's just that I do remember early versions of Jaws where constant nose dives were not such an issue.

I sure don't know the answer, but trying to keep up with technology is a lot, as they say, like herding cats.

Hi Crystal.

I can only report that Jaws 12 seems to work fine here. I have 11 around just in case, but at least with the latest version of 12, things appear to be working well.

That's on a new system running Windows 7 64-bit. Maybe JFW 12 throws a fit if it's on an older machine with Vista or XP? I don't know.

Chris, also hot here in Ontario Canada. 90 plus humidity that is - probably not as hot as it is in Texas.

Re: IE8 and IE9 crashing with Jaws 12

Well, I gave the latest version of Jaws 12 a go, and, it turned out to be even worse.

Not only was Jaws crashing in IE 8, but was crashing in other programs as well, such as in Outlook Express.

So, I'm back to Jaws 11. <sigh>

I have to say, at least on my cmputer, Jaws 12 has been a muddled mess.

Maybe it is my imagination, but it seems like FS keeps putting out Jaws 12 builds every time I turn around, and nothing get fixed.

I don't expect perfection, but it sure would be nice if Jaws would just keep talking like it is supposed to do.

Hey, it's hot, I'm in Texas, and just being a bit cranky today.

OK.
I just wrote about the disappearance of the Jaws Task Manager, formerly
enabled with Jaws key (Insert) plus F-10.
Now, the keystroke for starting the Jaws dictionary has disappeared.
Jaws key (insert) plus D used to start the Jaws dictionary manager. That is
no longer the case.
Even worse, when I press Jaws key (insert) plus F-2 and then press D to
locate the Dictionary Manager, when I press ENTER actually to start the
Dictionary Manager, the Dictionary Manager just goes away.
Any idea what's going on?
If this is what we get with Windows 7, I'll gladly go back to Windows XP.
OK.
There may be another issue. To get JAWS to run at all on our system, our IT
security monkeys had sequentially to stop group policies from "blocking"
certain DLLs.
Do you think that might be the problem, i.e., they didn't stop the blocking
of all needed DLLs?

Alice,

In IE8, go to tools with alt-t, then arrow up or down to "Manage add-ons,"
which you can also reach by pressing a.

I'm not at all sure the problem is with add-ons, but when all else fails, it
might be worth a try.

I don't so much encounter the closing thing, but I get the dialog

Re: Latest build of JAWS

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

No, as far as I know, the current build is 12.0.1169.

Chris

At 02:17 PM 8/7/2011, you wrote:

A couple of inquiries: Is 12.0.512 the latest build?
I was out when our IT department pressed the Windows 7 image on my hard drive and installed JAWS.
I just checked the build I have installed, and I think it is the most recent release: 12.0.512. Is that correct?
So far, it seems to be working pretty well, though some of the issues I pointed out to FS in Version 11 still haven't been fixed. This was after I demonstrated (and got FS to admit) that the feature, which worked in Version 10, was broken in version 11, and is still broken.
My second inquiry:
When new releases come out, I always see where a whole list of bug fixes are included. Funny thing, the list never includes anything I have pointed out.
I'm curious as to whether anyone on this list has reported a bug and then seen it fixed in a subsequent JAWS release. Surely the reported bug fixes are real. Right? I'm sure it must be me, but the reported bug fixes in the release notes never seem to have anything to do with me or how I use JAWS.
I hope I'm utterly alone in this.
Have a great day.

Latest build of JAWS

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Hi Curtis & Anders,

Below is the SendSpace download link for the safe mode file.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/03tej9

I checked this link before posting it, & it is still working. Hope this
helps. Take care.
