Oh James so you are using windows 7 now, I wonder how long since you did I thought were thinking about it. I suppose you have not got a sneak preview about jaws 13, Or maybe windows 8 regards Dorothy??

Considering both keystrokes you mentioned work just fine here, and I'm
running latest JAWS on Windows 7, I'd say it's definitely something in your
environment at work. Go corporate IT folks!

OK.
I just wrote about the disappearance of the Jaws Task Manager, formerly
enabled with Jaws key (Insert) plus F-10.
Now, the keystroke for starting the Jaws dictionary has disappeared.
Jaws key (insert) plus D used to start the Jaws dictionary manager. That is
no longer the case.
Even worse, when I press Jaws key (insert) plus F-2 and then press D to
locate the Dictionary Manager, when I press ENTER actually to start the
Dictionary Manager, the Dictionary Manager just goes away.
Any idea what's going on?
If this is what we get with Windows 7, I'll gladly go back to Windows XP.
OK.
There may be another issue. To get JAWS to run at all on our system, our IT
security monkeys had sequentially to stop group policies from "blocking"
certain DLLs.
Do you think that might be the problem, i.e., they didn't stop the blocking
of all needed DLLs?

Any thoughts on why the IE problems?
Maybe IE is corrupted. This happens in both IE8 and 9.
I am baffled. Did a scan disc and a defrag also but with no good results.
Any help appreciated.

Alice,

In IE8, go to tools with alt-t, then arrow up or down to "Manage add-ons,"
which you can also reach by pressing a.

I'm not at all sure the problem is with add-ons, but when all else fails, it
might be worth a try.

I sometimes, actually fairly often, find that my focus is lost in Windows Live Mail 2011, using JAWS 12. But if I press CTRL + 1, that puts the focus on the Tree View of the email account. I will hear the name of the folder and then I TAB over to the List View. And I am good to go. I currently am using this email program for several email accounts. And I am pretty happy, except I am still pretty crazy helpless with some of the ribbons, and am still working on that when I can.
Hope that is helpful, too.
Thanks.

I've noticed that too don't think it's a corupt browser I think it's some kind of little hickup in the brows or windows. if it happens only periodically don't think you have to worry. if it continues then do an antivirus/antimalware scan. but I have had it. I think sometimes it what ever site you're on too like on blip FM. I think that flash heavy site sometimes gums up the works.

Not in my copy of Jaws 12. Under advanced, I have all the
checkboxes for trying remote braille or speech at start up, use
pacmate for authorization etc. Anything to do with autoupdate
notification seems to be in basics.

To get to the checkbox in basics, you need to press the "advanced" button.

If new to JAWS, and not just JAWS 12, once you reach the checkbox, I suggest
you find out what this function actually does by pressing insert-F1.

Nickus ... easy. Go into Options > Basics and there's a checkbox
for it.

Re: IE8 and IE9 crashing with Jaws 12

In the past, other listers have suggested looking down your list of add-ons
in IE's tools/options and disabling them one by one to see if the cause of
the crashes lies there.

I don't have this problem with IE, but I do with Firefox. Computers are
eccentric beings. Btw, I have XP Pro, not Windows 7.

Subject: IE8 and IE9 crashing with Jaws 12

Morning all,
Using Win/7 Home Premium, and Jaws 12. When using Internet Explorer
(8 or9), and the newest versions of Jaws 12, newest bill and a older
bill, IE just stops working. I get a message that IE has shut down
and Windows is looking for a answer. Sometimes IE will come back
asking me, or should I say telling me, that the last browsing session
has shut down, would I like to restart it.
Any thoughts on why the IE problems?
Maybe IE is corrupted. This happens in both IE8 and 9.
I am baffled. Did a scan disc and a defrag also but with no good results.
Any help appreciated.
Morey Worthington
